Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f1.8D Lens:

Between this and my 35mm f/1.8G, these are my everyday lenses on my DX D3000. You can find this lens cheaper at other retailers but I had a gift certificate to use and an Abt agent was able to price match. Shipped immediately and the quality was exceptional. Would buy again.

Why buy a normal f2.8 zoom?

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f1.8D Lens:

Why buy an expensive normal zoom that it is only an f2.8, if you coul just get this one for a lot less, it is lighter, twice as fast, and will keep you a little more fit by you having to walk one step forward or back to frame your subject instead of zooming.

Think, after a full day of carrying you heavy zoom or you light weight fast 50mm lens, which one are you most likely to keep using.

To me, the zoom means opportunities loss, pictures that I won't have, and ultimately money that I won't produce.

I do not agree with a previous report of flare. Use a hi quality musty coat filter, and use the lens with proper technik and you will have pro results.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f1.8D Lens:

It's amazing that one of Nikon's sharpest lenses ever is also one of its cheapest! You can pay three times as much for the 1.4D version, but you'd be very hard pressed to tell the difference between the final images. The only drawback to this lens is that it is very prone to lens flare. The newer version (1.4G) has better coatings that help prevent this. However, this version remains sharper, especially in the corners. I purchased a lens hood on [@] which solves the problem 99% of the time. Also, if you own one of the newer budget DSLRs from Nikon (D40, D60, D3000/D500 series) they are not capable of auto-focusing this lens.Short of that, there is no reason for any Nikon owner not to own this lens!!!
