I don't lose power often but do not want to risk a basement flooding or no heat in winter or fridge full of spoiled food, etc, so this was well worth it to me. I am moderately handy and did the installation myself (after getting building permit). One aspect that confused me was the transfer switch manual states that power and control wires to the generator must be in different conduits and the diagrams all indicate this, however the corepower unit is clearly designed to run all in one conduit (the manual pictures show this plus there is only one knockout in the generator electrical interface. In the end I figured the transfer switch manual was written to accomodate larger generators as well and installed the wiring in one conduit (10ga thhn for pwr and 14ga thhn for control). I ran 8ga thhn from the 50A bkr in the utility panel. I left the house (load) grounds and neutrals in the main panel and just ran 12ga thhn from the xfer switch load outputs to a wire nut connection to the hot wire in the main panel (important that the hot wires are just passing through the utility panel, not terminated anywhere in there). A warning sticker came with the transfer switch to put on the utility panel to warn about the presence of feed-through hot wires from the transfer switch. So far i'm happy with the product. I like that the xfer switch that comes with this unit has you use your own wire (no harness) however I they should be more specific in the installation manual in the areas I mentioned. Also note that this engine is more basic than the guardian series (OHV vs OHVI), and therefore may not last as long. Also the corepower has less clean power regulation. If you are expecting to lose power a lot or are powering lots of electronics you should consider the guardian series, otherwise the corepower is a great option.

My house is small, so I didn't need a large generator. This unit powers most items in the house, but not central a/c or microwave. I have a home-based business so having a generator for back-up power was important. When the generator was tested after installation, it pulsed uneven power to my computer equipment and very much had the potential of doing damage. The electrician had to buy & install a power conditioner so that the system is usable. Same electrician had massive issues with the installation, including 4 failed inspections. Though he had a lot of experience w/Generac system installations in general, this was the first PowerCore he installed, and apparently it posed a lot of problems for him. The generator goes through it's weekly test-run without any issues, but I've not had a real power outage yet to report on a real-life episode.

Comments about Generac Corepower 7kW Air-Cooled Gas Engine Generator:

This generator & transfer switch was easy to install. The instructions were easy to follow. I had zero problems with the installation after following the installation instructions. I ran all of the tests and there were no problems the first time I tried out the unit. I ran it a couple of times to make sure.

This product has very nice features for the price

Comments about Generac Corepower 7kW Air-Cooled Gas Engine Generator:

This 7kw is enough for what I need for the house. It was pretty easy to install. Very easy to maintain as the sides just lift up and you can access three sides to the unit. it starts up once a week for 10 minutes since it was installed in May 2014. The sound level is less than my lawnmower which was a nice surprise. I purchased and installed the cold weather kit as I live in the North East. I have not had a power outage yet but am confident that it will start up if this happens.

Good product / Good decision

By

Comments about Generac Corepower 7kW Air-Cooled Gas Engine Generator:

I live in an area with high water table. I was thinking of getting a portable 6000 watt generator incase of power outage for two sump pit pumps. I have marine battery backup sump pumps but the last outage lasted 5 hours. I decided to have a permanent backup system incase I was gone for a day or more. The professional installer liked the transfer switch and generator unit. The weekly cycle check comes occurs on schedule. The Generator sound is like a lawn mower outside. Electric power has only went out once in my area since the installation and the unit kicked on and the areas of house with dedicated circuits worked. With the smaller unit the only big decision is which house circuits will have the priority.

Easy do work on . Side panels are removable for engine servicing . Transfer switch is of top quality. Installation was easy and the machine comes with a good alarm indicator for easy trouble shooting . Adequate power for the home , This machine was bought after a tornado left us without power for 2 days and will serve as insurance for future weather issues such as ice storms . Did not hook up the electric range . It will be rough using the barbeque !

love the size & the ease of convience to the inside.

Comments about Generac Corepower 7kW Air-Cooled Gas Engine Generator:

I love the size of this generator and the easy access to the motor area and how the panels pull out to easily get to all parts of inner workings. The generator is also quieter than the one it replaced. I also like the composite panels, this unit should not rust as the previous did.
