I purchased this generator to provide whole house power during an outage. The feature I liked was the 50A 240VAC outlet, larger than the 30A outlet I saw on most other generators of this size (this generator also has two 30A outlets). As I have a well pump, the extra capacity is well needed. Generator starts and runs well; I haven't performed a full tank test to see how long a tank of gas (10 gallons) will last. The control panel is well laid out, starting was easy, and the panel exterior lighting (small LEDs) works well. Only complaint is that the manual is lacking in some detail. While the maintenance and use instructions and warnings are generally good, some maintenance items are shown simplistically when they are not so simple to perform. The battery came completely disconnected with no fasteners to make the connections; after calling Generac support and waiting 3 weeks, I purchased my own connectors. The battery charging wires (off the rear of the control panel) also were not connected to the battery or the battery cables and there is no mention of them in the setup portion of the manual. Air filter replacement is not as simple as noted in the manual as stuff needs to be removed to access the filter cover. Since spare parts were provided for spark plugs and filter, I had to check to see if a filter was actually installed (it was); that required removal of a side panel and still resulted in tight access to the filter cover. Since two quart bottles of 30W oil were provided (for use in warmer climates), I needed to drain and replace the oil with 10W30 for the colder climate in New England. Oil was easy to drain and install. If the manual had sufficient detail that I didn't have to do these checks, this would clearly have been rated a "5" overall.

I spent over $2000 for what is supposed to be a high end work horse boy am I disappointed. I knew the unit was heavy but putting on the wheels and feet while it sits on the pallet is impossible, it's really a 2 man job just to unpack it. Paper oil funnel it comes with why? Totally useless. It doesn't state anywhere in the manual that I saw if you're using this for home backup you need a 3 pole switch or floating neutral/ground on the house end. Started very easy, it looks nice and weatherproof, comes with extra plugs and filters but I ran it for less than 1 hour and it's blowing oil threw a gasket behind the fan shroud somewhere. I am so disappointed my 2 week old unit has to be brought in for warranty service before it's first use. Oh and good luck getting a 280lb+ unit in for service. I was told it would cost me $100 to have it picked up. I may revise this if the unit gets fixed properly and I put it thru its first real test but I would not recommend this right now.

Comments about Generac XG8000E Series 8kW Portable Generator:
I purchased this generator to be used as a back up unit for my home. I was looking to purchase a whole house unit but decided on the XG10000 because is portable. I can take it to where it is needed (family members homes) if my power is on. When not in use I keep it under my work bench in the garage. I do need help getting it into my truck she is a bit heavy. The electric start is great. It will run everything I need to run in my home and more, I can toss a couple of extension cords to my neighbors too. I do recommend that a weekly test run with some load is a great idea. I normally plug in a portable space heater does the job. The only issue I have is, when running it is kind of noisy. Generac please work on a better muffler. I do like this my XK 10000. Looks good too.

Works like a charm

We moved to the 'country' north of Spokane, WA earlier this year and were warned of potential power outages due to weather. I researched portable generators with the goal of buying a high quality unit that could do more than power a toaster and decided on Generac's 10Kw model. We had an electrician wire the house for it early in November, and on the 17th, the area experienced a record windstorm with gusts exceeding 70 MPH. Over 200,000 homes, including ours, lost power for up to 9 days. Our Generac kept the lights on, refers and freezers cold, TVs functioning, and fans working in our propane fireplaces to keep us warm in 15 degree weather. We were the only home within sight that had lights in our area. The genset never missed a beat and had a fair amount of excess capacity that wasn't used. Probably the best investment we've made since moving here.

Wanted whole house protected...
The 10KW portable is a very nice product. I appreciate the quality, appearance, and value. Product arrived on time and as advertised. Product was easy to assemble and started right up. Very happy with product. No surprises, which is a good things these days. The salesperson was very helpful, the delivery staff was great, even had the manager present when the product was delivered. Generac stood out from the competition. I like that they describe product as a 10000 W 'running' generator. Many others advertise the surge watts first, then the running watts. Very deceiving marketing. With Generac, no deception.
Jsut in time
Have had the XG10000E for 2 days when the power went out. We have a well pump, furnace, electric dryer, as well as satellite TV, 2 fridges, water heater, microwave, lights, etc. This powers it all easily, just remember to unplug air compressors, that kicked out the breaker. Only problem was the factory forgot to bolt down the fuel tank. I need to get four flanged bolts and tap the holes. Also there was only one qt of oil, needs two.
Power to spare
Have had the XG10000E for 3 years now. We have a well pump, septic pump, furnace, electric dryer, as well as TV(s), fridge, microwave, lights etc.. This unit runs it all easily. We don't need it often, but it sure is nice when we do!! Only thing I would change would be to charge the battery automatically off the engine when it is running.
Great for Backup and work!!

I use xg10000e generator to completely power my auto detailing business. Always runs and delivers power. Only issue I ever had was with a breaker. I called generac an d the next day a technician came and fixed it. Overall a great product and would recommend to everyone needing a large amount of watts
Best Generator for the buck
I bought the XG 10000 basically for power outages at home. It will be used for other things as well. It came assembled with the exception of the wheels, the cushion mounts and the battery cables. The engine was already full of oil and the battery was charged. I filled it with fuel, added some sta-bil gas treatment and off we went. It fired right up and I ran it for a bit. I plugged a grinder in to test it and it never flinched. The accessory kit had all kinds of extra's like spark plugs, oil filter (which was damaged), air filter and all the needed hardware. I called the customer service phone number and told them about the filter and they are shipping one out right away. Thats exactly what I expect of a well known company. Excellence at it finest. I will write another review later if possible when I power up my home with it.

generally the generator was a great purchase. very easy to put together and get started. The only problem was the axle is two inches too short. They are sending me another one that i hope will be right., My concern is that it has been nine days so far and it still has not shipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would think that a missing or damaged part would be shipped out pretty quick.Only took three days to get the generator shipped, why so long for missing parts??????????????????
