My old Blue Ray player was fried by a lightning strike, so I was off to the Electronics store to buy a new one. Was going to buy one of the "big box store" brands but none of them looked very impressive. So I checked out the Yamaha and went with it because both the Blue Ray player and the remote looked like quality products. I was not disappointed when I got home and set it up. I like it's performance a lot better than the old Blue Ray Player I had. It is faster to boot up, although I wouldn't say it is fast (That said, I don't think any of them are). Picture quality is excellent, even on my 42" 720p plasma TV. Menus are logical and give plenty of control over the unit. I also like all of the connections this unit has. There are, however, multiple menu buttons on the remote, and it's not always clear to me which menu button I should use. I suspect I will figure that out as I get more familiar with the machine. All in all I am very happy with this Blue Ray Player. It costs a little more than the players at the "Big box stores", but I think you get a much better quality player that performs better for your extra money.

I've been using this Blu-ray player for a few weeks now, mostly to play Blu-ray, and one DVD. I have not tried 3D content yet. I have found it almost perfect.

I say almost, because on a disc with BD Live content, the player took a *very* long time to respond to commands (return to main menu, etc.). It seemed to be trying to access content on the internet (I have an ethernet cable connected), but as I did not have an external USB drive connected, it did not have a location to store online content. The player appeared to "time out" with an error about BD Live and USB storage. I set the BD Live option to "prohibited", but this did not help. I purchased (~$10) a micro USB flash drive (8GB) meant for "plug in and leave" usage on laptops. I connected this to the rear USB port, and leave it plugged in. After this, and cycling the power off/on, the unit is working very very well. Much better now than it ever was in the beginning. It loads and plays Blu-rays very fast in my opinion.

I really think Yamaha should have built into the player 4-8GB flash memory for BD Live content so the user wouldn't have to deal with it.

I love the Yamaha iPhone app which lets me turn on/off the player using my iPhone.

Easy setup. Compliments my Yamaha RX-A1010 receiver. Good quality build. Would definitely recommend to others.

Compared to most "department" store units, this Yamaha appears to be much better built. I liked its appearance and the inclusion of both optical and coaxial outputs. It works smoothly, loads relatively quickly and has played everything I've put in it (no 3D movies yet).
