Installed this into a 2012 2dr base GTI. Wiring it into the factory radio was straight forward. I initially attempted to use the built-in auto on/off ability, but found it to not be sensitive enough to output voltage coming from the factory deck. The factory VW radio does not have a remote turn-on or power antenna lead. This caused the tube to shut off when the volume was turned down below a certain level. I solved this by installing a PAC TR-4, which provides a remote turn-on lead. The PAC unit is far more efficient at sensing voltage on the output from the factory radio + speaker CH. Overall the tube provides a decent amount of bass and improved the overall sound quality of the factory radio. If I had to do it over I would probably go with the 10" instead. While the 8" sound decent, it struggles with certain frequencies.
