I got my new washer 01/07/02. I had quite a back load of laundry and have done approx. 6 or 7 loads of clothes from delicates to towels and even a blanket. Clothes seem clean. Will take some adjustment to get accustomed to the settings but so far I have had no problems or foul ups with the washer and it seems to be functioning fine and has been easy to use. I do wish the dispenser drawer were more in the center of the machine as it is a little wide for me to fully use it with the size of my washroom folding doors.

Comments about Whirlpool Duet High Efficiency Front Loading Gas Dryer:
I bought the washer about three years ago. I have had to change the drum seal twice. I have had clothes damaged because it wedges into the drum seal as the spin cycle is on. I'am not satisfied overall with the purchase.

Rubber Gasket Damaged in first 3 years of use
from Oakland, CA
Rubber Gasket Damaged in first 3 years of use. Parts = $120, Labor $95.A minor/trivial issue is that it leaves soap on the door occasionally even when a normal amount of soap is used.Otherwise, it cleans well.

Suds remaining in the door seal after cycle is done. I use "he" soaps, but even at half the recommended measure, the problem usually remains. Both a Whitlpool tech and a repairman could not offer any solution other than reducing the amount of soap and using Affresh.

Beware of Model WFW9151YW Duet Washer
from franklin county, VT
We spent $971.+ on 7/11/2012, and replaced it on 11/11/2015 with a boot torn in 3 places, and in need of a new inner basket and outer tub with bearings. Parts alone exceeded $600 without labor. We are a senior couple with minimal to average laundry needs, we took care of the machine, and followed directions. We did not have the extended warranty. The performance was just fair, even when brand new. It is unacceptable for such a machine to fail in just over four years. The other issues are common to front loaders: even with regular cleaning, as recommended in the manual, and leaving the washer door open when not in use, the odor and the build-up were disgusting, even with a water softener. No matter how good a Black Friday deal, beware of this model, and be careful of Whirlpool.

bad rear drum

I will need to replace my washer after 2 1/2 years. The cost to repair is over half the value of a new LG, Samsung, etc. So disappointed in the Whirlpool product.
Matched set gets the job done right.
from Rogers City, MI
We have the Washer Dryer set at our cabin in the northwoods of Michigan. So glad we went this route. Powerful performance in a compact size for a small space. The quiet, effective consistency is something we've come to rely on as a given. We'll investigate other Whirlpool appliances after our great experience with these.

Good looks, large size, awful unreliable product.
from Brandon, FL
Bought it under 2 years ago in major home improvement box store. When they delivered it, the person commented that they had a lot of returns on them. I should have listened. From the beginning, the machine would go out of balance and bang wildly, as if someone is hitting something with a hammer, knocking off any softener bottles that were on top of it. I guess that is how it went out of balance during spin cycle. I had to run and press "pause" on it. After then I pus "play" again, and it would even itself out. Before this, I had a 10 year old front load Frigidaire (which is STILL working) that I'd moved to my vacation home, it had a share of problems, but they didn't start in a practically new machine! Periodically, Duet "eats" clothes items, or makes giant holes in them. I had several articles of colothing and linens with holes chewed through them by this machine. I think design is such that fabric gets caught between the drum and something else. Then, about a year and a half into ownership of this Duet wahser, it started to leak, sporadically at first. I would come into a laundry room and see puddle of water by the washer. A few days ago, after a load of laundry, I opened the door and found all the laundry covered in some gray shavings. The bellow was covered in about 1/2 inch layer of them! Upon inspection, I found a ragged hole about 1.5" by 1.5" in the bottom of the bellow. There was NO sharp objects of any kind within the load of laundry. of course it is out of warranty, now we have to try to buy and install a new bellow. But I doubt that will take care of leaking (that happened before) or shaking/banging. I used to trust Maytag/Whirlpool because our prior Maytag gas dryer lasted 15 years and we donated it while it was still fully operatonal. New stuff is JUNK. I also have Maytag all-stainless dishwasher which developed door gasket leak after 1.5 years ($175) repair - of course, also just out of warranty. NO MORE Maytag and Whirlpool for us. They lost our trust.
Poor Design and Awful Product
By Buyer Beware
from Fort Wayne, IN
This was a gift for my son and daughter-in-law. Nothing but problems in the 3 years of use. Poor design on water drainage. Have had to service the washer 4 times because of poor design that does not allow water to drain if there is so much as a spec of fuzz in the drain area. Also, due to the way the door and the tub fit is designed, small pieces of clothing such as t-shirt ends, child pajama pants, bib ends, etc. get caught in the edge between the drum and the door. When this happens, the fabric is twisted and torn. Poor, poor design. Will never buy another Whirlpool product as long as I live. Too bad, a great product years ago has turned into junk.

My Second whirlpool washer in the last 13 years. The first lasted 9 years of large use during which I only had to replace the water valves a couple of times, until the tub bearing locked up. Because I had good use, I chose to replace the unit with another Whirlpool. Bad choice. After 2 years the drum seal broke and then a month later the water valve failed and now the control card blew up. All within three years of purchase. Not worth the money.
