This is a good move by Sony: trimming the product line to a single model, reducing the cost, adding WiFi, and bundling in a power adapter. I don't know why people are complaining about the lack of a 7-inch model. I had the 7-inch model for about a year, before losing it. When I replaced it a year ago, I got the 6-inch PRS-650, as it was cheaper. I expected the smaller size would be difficult to read or inconvenient. It isn't. I expected it would take some time to get used to. It didn't. And although it is only a little smaller than the 7-inch model it replaced, it is significantly more comfortable to hold while reading, and quite a bit more convenient to carry around (it just seems to fit into more pockets -- I can slide it into my cargo pants, for example, which wasn't possible with the 7-inch). Someone wanted to know if it's possible to zoom in on PDFs. It is on the 650, so unless Sony has taken their software backwards, I don't see why the new model would be any different. In fact, Sony's handling of PDFs is nothing short of amazing. My only complaint is that there's no trade-in program so that I can upgrade myself from the 650! (Can't really justify shelling out for what would be my third Reader in as many years!)

I loved my 505, it has traveled the world with me and I was very sad when it died. Now, I am hoping I can find someone to fix it - or I am going with a Nook. The first T1 was returned less then 24 hours after purchase because every time I switched it to transfer mode it crashed the Reader library on my computer. The second one seemed better, though originally all I loaded on to it were books I had purchased from the Sony store. In preparation for a trip I loaded an additional 33 books. I used the touch screen to turn the page of one of the books and the reader flipped through all the remaining book pages and then refused to recognize any attempts to use the touch screen - which meant I couldn't even turn the T1 off! I finally had to reset the reader. Tried to continue to read the book and every time I use the touchscreen to turn a page the dictionary kicked in. (Hey, at least I could use the touchscreen again). I had to turn off the reader and re-start it to get this to stop. I spent 8 weeks trying to decide if I wanted to replace my 505 with the T1 or get the Nook Color, I read professional and reader reviews and am starting to think I made the wrong choice. My other problem with the T1 is cosmetic. I do not like the shiny plastic surround. I have not yet had problems with fingerprints on the touchscreen, but that is not the case with the plastic. I am also not a fan of the new reader library program which among other things won't let you delete any books you bought from the Sony store and wants to reload them back on to the Reader if you have deleted them previously irregardless of how you have set your sync. Maybe in another 6 months to a year Sony will have fixed these glitches, but until then, think very carefully if you want the hassle.

Comments about Sony Red Wi-Fi eBook Reader:

I just upgraded my Reader from the PRS-650 to the PRST1 and I could not happier. This Reader is Fantastic. Love the WiFi capability and the crispness of the print. You just need to get color capability built into the Reader. Oh, yes, and find a good place for the stylus. I'm just leaving it in the drawer or now.

PRS-T1 is the best Sony Reader so far...

    By s0ny

    from New Jersey

Comments about Sony Red Wi-Fi eBook Reader:

I've owned a previous Sony Reader, and I also own a Kindle and frequently use a relative's nook. I have to say, the Sony Reader is probably the most advanced of all three, but I can't say it's as refined. The hardware is great, but a step down from the previous generation's solid aluminum design. That's forgivable due to its new competitive pricing and features. The design is solid yet thin, and the whole unit is incredibly lightweight, but still feels sturdy. The touch screen works as expected, the multitouch is great, and the contrast and screen is a step up from usual. Compared to the nook and Kindle, it doesn't feel as sturdy, but the weight and dimensions compensate. The plastic border around the screen gets very annoying, since although the screen is anti-glare, the plastic shows a lot of glare and fingerprints and scratches. On the software side, the Sony's interface is very straightforward, but not in a bad way. The interface is simple, but experiences a few hiccups here and there, especially on the web browser. Don't get me wrong, the web browser is one of the best on any eReader, and I use it more than I expected. It lets you download books and other media online and you can view them too. However, the whole interface sometimes shows some bugs. The popup dictionary within a book has to flash twice, which is unnecessary, and there is no option for recently read or partial-refresh mode. Those aren't big deals, but it's worth mentioning. Also, the open format of the Sony Reader takes it a step above the Kindle, which is huge purchasing factor. If you want an eReader that can read and download multiple formats, this is the one for you. PDF support was terrific as well. Among the advanced features that this offers that no competitor does is the audio player, picture viewer, and notepad, but I didn't use those much during everyday use. They are fun to have though. This is pretty good for the first Sony Reader to run Android, and I'm glad it does. I just hope some bugs are fixed on the PRS-T2 or in a software update. The Sony Reader desktop software has improved drastically since I first used it. However, it still is not as organized as a regular desktop app is for a competing eReader. Still, it works, and I'm glad that it's a huge improvement. Overall, this is one of the better eReaders on the market, with the most features and supports many file types. Much of the conveniences won't be used everyday, but it comes in very handy. The interface and hardware both have some problems, but it is still a step above the competition. If you're on the fence about this and another reader, go with this one unless you have already bought into another company's book ecosystem.

    Jury still out

Comments about Sony Red Wi-Fi eBook Reader:

I've had my PRS T1 about a week and I like it, but would be a lot happier if the wi-fi was stable. I can get it to connect to both my networks. It's more stable on the WEP network than on the WPA network. I assigned it a dedicated IP on the WEP network and also disable TKIP and that seems to have helped as does turning on Wireless Standby, but it sometimes doesn't see the network and often times won't connect. I have 30+ years in the computer industry so I know my way around this stuff pretty well. Not a very good wi-fi implementation and needs to be fixed. If Sony can fix this I will be happy to write a much more positive review.

Comments about Sony Red Wi-Fi eBook Reader:

I purchased this Sony Reader yesterday, after see what a great deal I could get for it. When I opened the packaging, I was shocked that Sony has become so cheap!! Only a USB cable for charging and nothing else!!! Different design than the PRS-600 BC that I lost, but feels too plastic, not sturdy. ONLY a microSD card slot, no proprietary Memory Sitck slot! No place to slide in stylus, therefore it will be easily lost. No neoprene case like the other Sony Readers previously. Had to reset the Reader last night, so this might be troublesome. Comes with WI-FI, but since I do NOT have a router and use my SE mobile as a modem, this is something of a non-issue to me. I like the PRS-600 BC much better, SD and Memory Card slots, hefty, sturdy build, a nook to place the stylus. I like my older model Reader better than this one. And my experience with Sony in general has been very negative, although the support for the Reader is a bit better. I am holding off recomending this Reader until I have it for a little while.

    Best 6" reader so far!

    By lionspeaks

Comments about Sony Red Wi-Fi eBook Reader:

I'm using the Sony prs T1 from a month, soo far it's working smooth and it's actually helping me as a companion on my journey.I'm from India and we don't have an store support , so there is no buying of books, and downloading books from other sources is quite easy.the only thing that's negative about reader desing is plastic bezzel around it which sometimes pumps up the reflection on to the screen, thats only concern about hardware and design. I'm not a fan of partial page refresh because it leaves the shadows of previous pages , for me full page refresh is ok! ,One feature that I wished to have in sony reader is text to speech support ,and home screen can be improved a lot, they can add additional row for recently read books . I never used sony desktop software cuz I'm using linux, so even the sloppy software(most people hate sony desktop software) won't work on my machine.Calibre is doing fantastic work on behalf of sony's.I didn't root my device cuz many of those we rooted are constantly complaining about battery drying and so much flashing . So those who are in plan of buying this one will be delighted after the buy.

    Reader Excellent, Reader Store Not

    By BarbS

    from Cheyenne, WY

Comments about Sony Red Wi-Fi eBook Reader:

I really like the reader itself. It's very easy to use and easy to read. My biggest frustration is that the Sony Reader Store doesn't work very hard to get the latest books. There have been a number of books that I wanted to buy in the last few months. These books are available for Kindle, Nook and Kobo, but not for Sony. Nook won't support Sony, though there does seem to be some way to buy Kobo books and make them useable on Sony. I haven't tried it yet. Most of the books I have on my Sony have come from specialty publishers and are not available at Sony. If I'd understood how difficult it is to get books through Sony I would have gone to a different reader. My model is a 950, but my issues are with the book store. I would not buy a Sony again just because finding the books I want to read has been so difficult.

Comments about Sony Red Wi-Fi eBook Reader:

This is my story. Purchased the e-reader on beginning of 2011. One year not passed the e-reader started to malfunction. It goes to sleep mode suddenly, or shuts down completely, or starts endless cycle of reboots. I complained to sonny and they repaired it free of charge. Then after four months the same problem reappears. That time they want 100$ for repair…. I’ll better buy another reader for that money (not sonny for sure). Bottom line, after little bit more than one year 250$ worth fancy reader is completely useless. I stay away from sonny for next few good years … Advice you to do the same …
