Picked up my Sony Tablet S 32GB Sept. 16. First, I thought tablets were a stupid concept /device in general, but when I heard Sony was coming out with one, I gave it another look at (mainly because all my electronics are Sony). After playing with it right out of the box for a little bit, I knew I had something great and didn't want to put it down. The setup was quick and easy. I can operate my Bravia TV and DirecTV with it, play music through my TV with its DLNA function as well as posting pictures to it, play PS games on it, download and play Android market apps and games, and smoothly surf the internet via my wireless N network in my house. The battery lasts for a good while. The graphics are crisp and beautiful. It has Bluetooth capability. The sound is a little lacking, but suffice. The rear camera takes decent pictures, but its front is a little lacking. It has an SD card reader, MicroUSB port, and a headphone port. The charging connector type kind of seems fragile/not sturdy, which over time I can see problems devloping if not monitered and not connected/disconnected gracefully. Overall, I'm very satisfied and gladely to have spent $600 for it, but $600 is still expensive!

I've had a day to play around with the Sony Tablet S, and I think it could become a worthy alternative to the iPad. The "magazine" shape was a great idea. The tablet is more ergonomic than the iPad or Android competitors. You can hold it with your right or left hand, and the screen will rotate to the correct orientation. The screen is as good as anything out there in the tablet world. The touch screen response is good, the colors are superb. Sony has managed to tweak the base Android UI by offering quick access to favorite apps or bookmarks. The overall performance is what you'd expect from a top of the line tablet.

Sony Tablet S

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

Can't believe no one has reviewed this yet.... Bad crashes on gingerbread and ice cream updates fixed this, but bad flickering on ice cream update... Seems to be software because other tablet upgrades have the same problem.... Wish Sony would fix this as its getting awfully annoying now. A great fathers Day present from my 2 daughters.... Glad I raised them with beauty, good hearts, and a knack for good technology... Lol

Very happy with my tablet!

By TechnoTigger

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

I feel I did a lot of good research before I selected this tablet. I picked Android so that I would be able to have some features (like Flash) that I cannot get with an iPad. In addition, I appreciate that this tablet is lighter than an iPad and that the wedge shape easily fits in my hand. I have had a lot of fun with the built in applications, such as Pinball and the remote controls. On a down side, I felt I needed to buy an extra one of the proprietary power cords - one for work and one for home (rather than assume I'd always remember to carry it. This did add to the cost, but I can tell you I am glad I did. The wedge shape is wonderful, but some applications assume that I will always hold the tablet in my right hand, which is not true; those applications refuse to rotate. Lastly, some features, like the favorites screen, are not intuitive and I have given up trying to use it. I would suggest that you buy the STM sleeve with strap for quick and easy portability and put a microfiber cloth in the bag (all tablets need regular removal of fingerprints). Overall, I think the postives outweight the negatives, I find myself using my tablet just about every day, and I would recommend this tablet to you.

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

Updated to ICS within the first hour and have been impressed at every step. If I was forced to find a flaw: it would be with the many stores you have to join to get the movies, books, music and games. It would make more sense to join a "superstore" and then pick and choose what I need. Google drive makes it easy to keep all my work up to date on all devices.

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

I purchased this tablet in December and it is OK BUT has dismal battery life. I tried to compensate by purchasing a 12 volt adapter. SURPRISE! There is none. wished I had purchased a real tablet rather than this poor excuse for one. Sony service has matched the product.

Not exactly sold.

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

Perhaps it's time for Sony to consider customization of tablet devices, similar to customizing Vaio laptops. It just seems to me that every review I read, people have vastly different needs, such as myself. I'm fine with wi-fi only, because I don't plan to use it outside the house. That's why I have a smartphone. Some people require lower speeds, but higher capacities. Others require pure performance. There are screen protectors for a reason, people. Stop mentioning "scratched glass" in your cons when you just didn't spend the extra cash to protect your purchase. The proprietary power supply is also a major complaint, which I do understand and agree with. Seems foolish to not allow for USB charging, as most smartphones today have a USB that plugs into a wall adaptor. It's much more convenient and adaptors can be found for just about any other connection, using USB. I really do hope that Sony acts on much of the advice given to them here, by their customers. Many improvements can be made on the next model, but there are also a lot of features I'm very excited to use when I commit to a tablet purchase! I would recommend this product for select users, but certainly not for all. For Sony's first attempt at tablets, I must say it is pretty impressive, but still lacking for my particular wants.

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

Bought this device in 32gb model,im mostly happy with the device but only one thing thats bother me a lot,its all about the battery! Whenever I use wifi, the battery drains 1% for each 2 minutes! Did I get a faulty device or everyone is the same? I didnt choose other tablets in the market as I believe Sony would produce a good product but now it shattered my believes. what happen to your motto Sony? 'make.believe'. Im trully disappointed by this battery issue and yes I do have the latest firmware running on it. Btw im writing this review on my 4th day of purchasing this tablet. I might take this tablet back to store for a check, thats what warranty for.

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

1. requires resetting at least twice a week. It locks up and only resetting it will get it to work. It will not even turn off the power after lockup. 2. the browser will close several times during the day, always during use. Trust me that is truley aggravating and is enought to tick me off. 3. the propoirtery power plug is a terrible design. 4. on screen key board is very tempermental and it also pops up when an email is opened. My experience with this sony product is enought to cause not to ever buy a sony product again.

Perfectible, but awesome

By alejnadro

Comments about Sony 32GB Wi-Fi Tablet S:

Part of my job is to evaluate mobile devices, I've tryed and own several tablets, including iPads, and from all my devices this is the one I use the most and in my desk on its cradle looks great :) First you must be aware that android and iOS are two very different concepts and before evaluating hardware you should know what you want. I won't dig much on this matter just briefly mention that android does have a file system you can manage and thus you will always have a much wider interaction between files and software, while in the iOS may be seen like "islands", it is not necessarily bad, but it gives you two extremely different approaches. My tablet S allows me to take advantage of androids file system by the USB and the SD card ports (a must have for any owner is the not so new SanDisk Ultra II SD Plus, a card that goes straight from my sony's SD card slot directly to any computer USB port making file sharing quick and easy, and if possible a microSD to SD card adapter, just in case). Lots of fun, lots of sony software to make your experience even better, having the IR remote feels like magic, the design is completely different from any other device and even if everybody recalls its plastic feel, everybody keeps looking at it. If I could change only one thing in this tablet that would be the lack of video output (HDMI, VGA, you name it). The only reason I still carry my laptop (or other tablet) to some meetings is because I have to give presentations and I just cant do that from my Tablet S. Minor issues are that it is very difficult to use a stylus on it because you have to press very hard on the screen, you MUST buy a screen protector because this one is much more likely to be scratched than most of the others, probably the lack of gorilla glass -or something like it- has to do with the true black feature, which by the way works excellent and looks great, I read a lot of books on this tablet and it just works great. Another issue is the proprietary power connector, don't know if it has to do with the nice cradle feature, but that made me buy a second adapter because I leave one on the cradle and keep the other with me (you can use the one of the cradle if you wish, but that means connect and disconnect each time you need to take it with you). It doesn't have the best battery performance, but it does fine and that has not been a concern for me. Haven't heard anything official about IceCream on this tablet, but it is perfectly capable of it. If it comes from an official Sony update then it will likely preserve all the nice Sony software, if it doesn't you can find a way to install it if you want, its hardware is perfectly capable, but there will be no guarantee you can keep such software and also some things may not work (I'm particularly concerned about the IR). If you know you want an android device, you wont regret this excellent option, and even if you don't know much about tablets you will be happy with it.
