We bought this range, the convection microwave and the 980RSS dishwasher for our newly renovated kitchen. A dual fuel range sounded strange at first but we decided it is really the best of both - a gas cook top, which we wanted to replace our old drop in electric range, but we didn't want a gas oven. Buying a separate cook top and oven would have been out of our price range and would not fit in our kitchen without major remodeling. This solved the problem. It has everything. I have used the griddle with the middle oval burner for hamburgers and grilled cheese, and it does a perfect job, way better than a frying pan. Cooking with gas is so much smoother and controlled than electric burners. The convection oven works beautifully too. We did baked salmon and it came out perfect. The range looks great in our 1950s modern house and is extremely easy to clean. Until now I didn't cook much, but now it is fun and I plan to learn some more recipes and get busy with it. The combination of the range and the convection microwave is great, and with the lower oven, we have three ovens, large, medium and small, as well as full featured microwave. Also the griddle does not generate as much smoke as using a frying pan with our electric stove, and it is cleared efficiently by the microwave built in vent fan, so does not set off the smoke alarm. Over all, we are delighted with our new kitchen. One thing about price - once you decide what you want, check ALL the appliance stores as well as the big box stores, as the prices vary a lot for the same appliance, way more than we expected, and we got the best price at a place we did not expect to.

Have owned this range for a couple of months and am afraid to use it -- only used it a few times. The top of the range should be a more durable product other than stainless steel -- it scratches just from gently wiping it --never mind having to worry about spills and getting them wiped up without totally scratching up the stove top. It is a very poor choice to have stainless on the top cooking surface of the cooktop -- would certainly not even consider purchasing this range again -- am already regretting it! Paid too much money for a product that will look totally scratched and overly worn in no time --extremely disappointed it this product. It is pretty to look at, but certainly not practical to use! I think G.E. should create some sort of a fix to cover or replace the existing stainless steel "range top" to the "unhappy people" that have already purchased this easily scratched range top! Paid way to much money to have a new product become old looking and misused when it has not been!

GE Cafe Range Problems with Convection Roast Featu
from Lynn, MA, United States
I bought this range in December 2016. It's now February 2017, I have had 5 service appointments and the problem with the convection oven is still fixed. The service man claims it's a design issue and that no GE Café Ranges work in the Convection Roast mode.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Awesome oven. Does everything as advertised

This is a thing of beauty. The burners are awesome (especially the large middle one and the simmer in the front) and the oven preheats much more quickly than the past two (Whirlpool and Fridgidaire) that I've had in the past. The buttons in front are a little touchy but the gas lockout is a great feature to keep my grandkids safe. It is a tiny bit wider than the my past two but it fit so I still recommend you look at the opening between your cabinets very carefully. I haven't had to clean it yet (curious to see how the stovetop under grates cleans up) but I'm sure it will be fine
Only had a few weeks but we really love this range

Great range we have only had it a few weeks but it works great
Love our new range
By cooking with gas too
We have had our new Café dual fuel range for about a month now and we are very pleased with it. We did a lot of research and felt this range best met our needs. It replaced our 26 year old electric range. We chose the dual fuel because we still do a lot of canning and wanted to go with gas for the cooktop and we wanted the even baking that an electric oven gives. I love the large oven window and the smaller baking drawer underneath. And with the powerful burners, you can boil water in no time flat. However, the one small back "simmer" burner is just that, don't try to get something to boil on that burner as it will take forever. The only thing I am disappointed about is the time bake feature. You have to go through a series of steps to get to a time bake mode (see manual for detailed info regarding this special feature). The oven has a delay start button/feature and a cooking time button/feature, but you can use only one or the other. One lets you start the oven at whatever time you program in and the other button/feature lets you bake for however much time you program in. Both of those features are easy to use, but as I mentioned before I would have preferred to have a time bake mode on the front panel so I could program when I want the oven to start and stop (without having to go through a series of steps). But maybe nobody else will see this as an issue. I read other reviews on how the front control panel was too low or too hard to read, but I disagree with both of those statements. I also read other reviews on how easily the surface scratched, so I have been very diligent to wipe up any spills right away so they don't get baked on. Even with one feature I am disappointed about, I would highly recommend this to anyone. I have not used the temperature probe yet, but I like having that feature. Hope this helps.

Couple weeks in and love it.

Being a Chef I wanted the quality and functionallity of a commercial unit, but needed the look and appearance that the Mrs's approved of in our new kitchen. With the Cafe we both got what we wanted. Burner BTU options are perfect for every day use and serious cooking. Tested oven temp on bake and convection at 250/300/350/400 and was only 1 degree off on each which is amazing. Continuous cooktop is level and smooth. Feel I made the best choice after months of comparing.

1-Touch screen on front of range is activated unintentionally by the cook standing in front of the range, reaching for the back burners, or cleaning the cooktop; changes existing settings. The keypad can be deactivated but it also shuts off gas to the cooktop so you can't cook. 2- 50 weeks after installation we put cooktop grates inside oven and ran "self clean" function. The oven door automatically locks during self cleaning. When the cleaning cycle was over, the oven door did not unlock. We couldn't use the cooktop or the oven for a week, waiting for service. The only way to access the lock mechanism is to force the oven door open enough to cut the lock rod off. It damaged the door, destroyed the lock, and the stove still "thinks" the door is locked, so we can't turn on the oven. Horrible design. Lastly, GE started 1 warranty at purchase, not installation. At 11 months of light use, GE refused consideration, insisting on purchase date as the start date. No more GE products in this home. GE website will not upload photo.
Perfect temperature control!

We have been using this oven for about 3 months and are extremely happy with the performance. Temperature control is excellent (verified with thermal Fluke gun). Just cooked a 16 lb. turkey with convection oven in 2 hours and 20 minutes, using Butterball online recipe, it was great, no hot spots or dark skin.

First time we have had a gas range and are amazed with how we can control the cooking temperature on the range.
Beautiful and fit for a chef!

We have wanted a gas stove for years and finally moved to a house were propane was an option. We went in search of a gas stove and the GE Cafe Series came highly recommended by our appliance dealer.
