After our terrible experience with the Maytag Neptune mold incubator, we were reluctant to buy another front loader. So we looked at the HE top loaders and discovered that the Maytag Bravos was the best on the market. The reviews on various popular websites were astoundingly negative. Yet we pursued the purchase of a Bravos based upon our retailer's recommendation. The first load of towels became unbalanced and never completed a balancing program cycle. So I turned the machine off and then ran a spin cycle. This worked OK. The loads for colors and whites went through their cycles fine. Everything came out clean and smelled fresh. I was told that the machine should last 7 to 10 years with normal (not everyday) use. It is very important to follow the instruction manual. We do not put fabric softener in the dispenser because people complaned that it left a scum on the inside of the machine. So we added fabric softener product to the dryer. The machine was quiet and certainly has a spacious interior. We used a half capful of HE detergent that worked well. Of course, the machine needs cleaning with Affresh or its equivalent after every 30 loads. So far, so good. I hope the track record continues to be good.

Unfortunately after owning Maytag washing machines for more than 30 years I am disappointed with this machine. It is poorly designed. There is no soak feature in the machine and there is no way to increase the water level in the machine - the result is clothes being mangled. Also found that coins are allowed to go into the drain pump resulting in damage to the pump and expensive repairs. A screen costing 5 cents could avoid this. This machine may look good but I think it is a setback to washing machine technology.

Worst washer ever
By Lynn B
from Scituate, MA
Bought this washer 3.5 years ago and it is now useless. I had purchased a 3 year extended warranty and yes it ran out 6 months before it broke. All the parts are plastic. Looks real nice from the exterior all flashy lights and sounds but mechanicaly it's a piece of garbage.

Worst Washer I Ever Owned!
By Carolina Girl
from Lexington, SC
I bought this washer because of the extra large capacity. Huge mistake. It will hold a lot of clothes but if you want them to get wet you can't put more than 3 or 4 pieces in at a time. When the washer stops the clothes are half wet and half dry. Black clothes always come out with white all over them. I guess it is lint from socks so you have to wash black clothes separately. I ran the last load through an extra rinse and spin cycle and they still came out half dry and the white spots were still there. Very disappointed. I don't like the new HE washers because they try to wash without any water. My husband tried the deep water wash and he said his clothes were still dirty. All settings take close to an hour or more to wash. Old washer was done in about 30 minutes and clothes were always clean when washer stopped. As soon as I get this one paid off I'm going back old school and put this one in the dump where it belongs. On a more positive note I do like the dryer.

I did a lot of research on washers before deciding on the Bravos series. This machine had great reviews! We purchased our first washer/drier pair in 2011. After 2 years of service, the washer's main bearing failed and we had to replace the washer... because the cost to repair it was the same as buying a new one. I thought we just got unlucky, it washed well, it fit in our upstairs alcove, we had the matching dryer, so I bought another one. FAIL. The "new" washer lasted 3 years and is now making the same LOUD whirring sound during the final spin cycle. With each use, the sound gets louder as the bearing fails. Now, I need to find a third washer in the span of 5 years. Seriously, Maytag? We even purchased the 3 year warranty and this machine fails 2 months after the warranty expired. Nice.
Major Issues within 5 years
from Milton FL
For about 5 months, kept getting uL code (Unbalanced Load) regardless of amount of clothes and resetting the clothes. Now I am getting F51 (RPS sensor). Now I will need to replace the RPS sensor, and most likely the bearings... This should not happen on a product that is less than 5 years old...
Replacement required after 4 years with no elp
By My Bad
from redding, ct
purchased in Sept 2011. Did not purchase extended warranty because our last maytag was 20 years old with no problems (came with house). My bad. Serviceman calls the machine "condemned". Will cost 2x as much to fix as replace....... talk about planned obsolescence. We called the repairman because it sounded like a 747 taking off when it was being used and never sounded like that before. Who builds a machine that needs to be taken apart offisite and rebuilt when a $25.00 bearing goes? And who wants a refurbished washing machine? And no one will help me - so i guess i need to replace a 4+ year old appliance out of my own pocket.
Disappointing Operational Performance
By The Evaluator

I have been a BIG fan of Maytag appliances for decades, but the performance of this device has me looking elsewhere. Here are the issues:1. After only four years of average use, the bearings are starting to fail. There are only three of us and our son is away at college most of the year. A search online turned up many users reporting the same issue. I contacted Maytag and was told no such problem was being reported to them, at least not in sufficient quantity to merit any extra attention. The "customer service" rep was rude to me and suggested many online problem reports are bogus or without merit. Wow -- who trained that woman? I was offered a "special" deal to have the unit evaluated and repaired for only $320. Gee wiz Maytag, thanks a lot. I was also warned that if I attempted this repair myself or if I let a third party company try to repair this problem, the offer would be withdrawn. I hung up on that service rep.2. This washer is very sensitive to out of balance and extra suds alerts. We use HE detergent, so that is not the problem. We constantly have to monitor the washer for unfinished loads due to these issues. I do most of our wash and I have seen 50+ loads not finish due to this problem.3. I guess it is good to clean your washer, but the cost of buying cleaner and doing these cleanings is a major hassle. We have the same unit in a rental property and they refuse to do the cleanings. They claim the washer works fine without any cleaning. Hmm...Is Maytag slipping? I don't know, but the crazy reliability that has kept me a regular customer is starting to fade.
Not Particularly Thrilled
from Nixa, MO
Tub size is great but doesn't rinse well. Bought about 6 months ago. It wads clothes up so tight that there is no way they can get washed properly or rinsed. Dark fabrics show residue. using extra rinse kinda works but to really get rinsed have to take out and unravel, then put back in and rinse only. Previous washer was Maytag and really liked it (smaller tub). Should have stayed with smaller, conventional unit and gone to laundromat for big items.

I purchased all Maytag appliances when I bought my new home. 18 months later the dryer quit heating. A $100 service call, $200 parts and labor. A year later washer quit,Top seal for tub leaking which ruined tub bearings. Rotor bolt came loose causing magnets to wear down on rotor and stator scared up from that all needs replaced. Another $100 service call and $200 parts and labor. Maytag did provide part for dryer but said there was nothing they could do about washer. For two years Maytag refrigerator leaks water on kitchen floor sporadic.Needless to say I will not be purchasing anything Maytag in future.
Very poor washer
from Poway, CA
This model has low capacity, weird glitches in the electronics that sometimes prevents selection of a particular cycle, badly wrinkles some types of fabrics (so that they are still wrinkled after drying), etc. Check ratings on other web sites and you will find them to be much, much lower than the rating on this web site.
