After our terrible experience with the Maytag Neptune mold incubator, we were reluctant to buy another front loader. So we looked at the HE top loaders and discovered that the Maytag Bravos was the best on the market. The reviews on various popular websites were astoundingly negative. Yet we pursued the purchase of a Bravos based upon our retailer's recommendation. The first load of towels became unbalanced and never completed a balancing program cycle. So I turned the machine off and then ran a spin cycle. This worked OK. The loads for colors and whites went through their cycles fine. Everything came out clean and smelled fresh. I was told that the machine should last 7 to 10 years with normal (not everyday) use. It is very important to follow the instruction manual. We do not put fabric softener in the dispenser because people complaned that it left a scum on the inside of the machine. So we added fabric softener product to the dryer. The machine was quiet and certainly has a spacious interior. We used a half capful of HE detergent that worked well. Of course, the machine needs cleaning with Affresh or its equivalent after every 30 loads. So far, so good. I hope the track record continues to be good.

Unfortunately after owning Maytag washing machines for more than 30 years I am disappointed with this machine. It is poorly designed. There is no soak feature in the machine and there is no way to increase the water level in the machine - the result is clothes being mangled. Also found that coins are allowed to go into the drain pump resulting in damage to the pump and expensive repairs. A screen costing 5 cents could avoid this. This machine may look good but I think it is a setback to washing machine technology.

Comments about Maytag Bravos XL HE White Top Load Washer:
I purchased all Maytag appliances when I bought my new home. 18 months later the dryer quit heating. A $100 service call, $200 parts and labor. A year later washer quit,Top seal for tub leaking which ruined tub bearings. Rotor bolt came loose causing magnets to wear down on rotor and stator scared up from that all needs replaced. Another $100 service call and $200 parts and labor. Maytag did provide part for dryer but said there was nothing they could do about washer. For two years Maytag refrigerator leaks water on kitchen floor sporadic.Needless to say I will not be purchasing anything Maytag in future.

Very poor washer
from Poway, CA
This model has low capacity, weird glitches in the electronics that sometimes prevents selection of a particular cycle, badly wrinkles some types of fabrics (so that they are still wrinkled after drying), etc. Check ratings on other web sites and you will find them to be much, much lower than the rating on this web site.
This machine holds a lot of laundry!!

This is a fairly new machine, so it has only washed about a dozen loads. I can't believe how large the tub is. It is performing exactly as I expected. The clothes are going into the dryer clean and with little moisture.

I bought this washer and dryer 2 yrs ago.The washer has been leaking water down the front area somewhere.I cannot find out the exact location of the leak.Live out of service repairmans area. Now the lid has come loose on the left side. Appears to be rusted out.Wish I had kept my old Roper washer.
This is the worst washing machine I have had in 40 yrs.

We have had this washer a little over a year. Warranty is expired. Washer will not drain code Ld or F32 depending on how you look it up. I look this up on line, there are many other people with the same problem. We bought this machine because it had good reviews, but after the warranty is up look out.

Washer is less than 2 years old, and we are gone for 3 to 4 months in the winter. There are only 2 of us so we don't generater a lot of washing and the drive shaft, bearings and seal are bad. Maytag or whirlpool (same co.) would not do anything to help so Now we have a $400 repair bill. Think twice before you buy

Purchased May 2013, put in new house but didn't use until late August 2014 due to moving delay. Did about 10 washes when lid "fell", broke very fragile part in lid lock system, trapping clothes inside. Warranty now expired, local repairman who had serviced previous machine contacted, said he wouldn't work on the machine. I took apart, ordered replacement latch mechanism for $86.00 and installed it myself, had to disassemble much of machine to identify where wires were routed. Plastic part which broke is about 1/32nds thick, broke where it had two places less than 1/64" across attaching two areas of the part together. Extremely fragile. Poor design. Required replacement of entire assembly. Besides, machine does not clean everyday dirt and stains from clothes. Machine does not meet basic warranty of merchantability in my opinion.

We are enjoying this washer. My only complaint is that when I was sheets or blankets it seems to unlevel easily.
Clothes are still dirty

Extremely disappointed!!!! At my age I've had plenty of experience doing laundry. My clothes do not get any more soiled than in the past yet I see difference in the cleanliness of the laundry. I'm not saving any water when I constantly have to rewash items. What a waste of money and time.
