I love the fact that this stove has five burners, but I am still not able to wrap my brain around the fact that there is no burner small enough to use a small saucepan! Since the burners will not stay on if the pan is not the right size...I consider this a real "con" in it's design! Unless I am missing something in the manual, I see no way around this issue and what would have otherwise been a stellar review, gets less that five stars for this reason alone!

This cook-top has two significant flaws. One is that you can not use small pans (it won't turn on if pan the wrong size). The pan must fit the burner, and four burners are the same size (none are small), so rather useless. I specifically bought it for melting chocolate, and you would have to do it in a large saucepan, not small. Second serious flaw: if any water gets on the control panel, it turns itself off. Steam created from cooking a chicken dinner with lid on turned off unit. Another time, moisture from lid, when taking it off and turning it sideways to check sauce, turned off stove. Any moisture! Plus, when lock feature on, this thing beeps at you constantly if anything placed on cook top. Cook top is so useless that I am taking it out.

Comments about KitchenAid 36" Black Induction Cooktop:
We just built a home and kitchenaid appliances were recommended to us. The transition to induction has been fairly smooth. We had a few original pans that worked on the stovetop - but not well. Just got a new set designed for induction.

Excellent cooking method
By David Haught
from MD's Eastern Shore
As part of our new retirement house we chose all Kitchen Aid appliances for the house on MD's Eastern Shore alongside the Chester River. As I do our meal preparation and enjoy varying our meals methods of prep. I chose the induction range based upon excellent reviews of other brands also. The method has not disappointed me in the least bit as I cook with copper band All Clad new cookware due to the magnetic need of the induction range. The KA model is well built, laid out well, and with precise heat control and along with the built in timer. Best method of cooking that I have ever used but regret not selecting the KA 36 in. model as the extra inches make a difference esp. as the All Clad skillets and steaming pans are a bit larger than other brands. As KA encourages cleaning the top immediately after a meal is prepared in particular if there is spillage on it. Excellent investment! The induction cooking does require practice and change from past cooking behaviors for the good though. One has to be careful esp. as our pans and pots are heavy and the glass top is fragile and scratches are to be avoided. My only problem involves the making of a Christmas Gelette cookie that is made on a waffle like iron but mine is not magnetic and thus not able to be used with the induction cooktop; will have to resort to using the outdoor grill....
Love This CookTop!
I wasn't sure what to expect with the induction cooktop, so have been pleasantly surprised. We replaced a Bosch gas cooktop with the Kitchenaid induction cooktop. The controls are easy to use and the cleanup is fast as is typical for a glasstop. Love the fast boil setting for quickly heating up water for pasta and creamer for morning coffee - super fast (about 20 seconds for the creamer). The low setting of 1 and 2 are perfect to slowly melt butter without worry of burning. The response time when moving between settings is very fast with temp decreases being immediately obvious. Love this cooktop.

The four smaller burners will not work with pots and pans that are smaller than the diameter of the burner. It renders the teh small pot and skillet in the induction cookware set that we bought useless.

This is the best cook top I have owned.

I did not have a gas line in my kitchen and did not want to go through the mess and expense of adding one. I do not like cooking with electric so this is a fantastic alternative. It heats water faster then a gas cook top and when you turn the heat down it is instant. It makes cooking at an even temp so easy.
We have been thrilled with cooktp!

We just built a new house and this was a great piece!

Just awesome. Making tea is faster than putting sugar in the pitcher. Having the dual burner is nice for Dutch oven (oval) or super large pans. Remember you must have induction cookware as some may state they are good etc. cleans up very well.
Works great, hard to figure out how to use

I'm happy with the way this product works, however it is really hard to figure out how to work it and the directions are not well written out to help you.
We love induction!
We transitioned to induction in our last house with a 4 burner kitchenaid - we had to buy the pots compatible but cooking on it is AMAZING! We recently purchased another house and got the 5 element induction cooktop and it works just as well if not better! I love it!

I have had this 36" induction cooktop for almost 2 years. The center "burner" and either of the right hand "burners" cannot be operated at full power at the same time. If you have more than one item cooking you must push the proper burner select button then change the power level. It would be nice if each burner has a separate power control. If a pot starts to boil over you cannot just turn the power down, it takes about 3 seconds for the change in power level to take effect. It is easy to keep clean.
