We're a couple who does HUGE amounts of web research before we make a purchase, but what with this being a fairly new product, there wasn't much to be found. It came highly recommended by our dealer, though, so we went ahead and took the plunge. This is, by far, the best kitchen appliance I've ever purchased. Capacity is amazing - you can get VERY BIG stuff in this dishwasher. Cleaning is great - especially compared with our old unit, which left crud inside many bowls and glasses. But really, you couldn't ask for any better in the cleaning quality department. We do now use a rinse aid, which is pretty much essential with the stainless interior which, by the way, retains heat better and, yes, looks very cool. After a short while, some soap film has appeared near the bottom-front of the tub, but that's easily wiped away. The repositionable silverware basket is a real boon. It fits up against the inside of the door, buying back a substantial amount of space from the lower rack.As far as the noise level goes, we joke to each other that the sound of it is deafening, and cover our ears in mock distress. This is because, as advertised, it?s a VERY quiet dishwasher. You can pretty much only hear it when it?s either intaking water for the wash, or draining it at the end of a cycle. I?ve gone to start it only to realize that my spouse already has it running. One thing you should know: this unit is not fast. It takes at least a couple of hours to do a load of dishes. That?s a result of the energy-saving properties of the design. It does, however, have a one-hour wash mode, and for moderately soiled dishes, i.e., just glasses and plates, this works great.Overall, I can?t recommend this product highly enough. One thing I wish to share: We purchased our appliances (we built a new house, so needed everything) from a local business, and yes, probably paid about 10% more than at Sears or a big-box store, but we chose to keep the money in our community. And having our service people just a few miles away, and happy to answer questions, etc. has been very helpful. 10% for dealer nearby who cares if you buy from them again is a bargain, in my book. Buy this dishwasher!

First the good parts. The dishwasher looks nice in the kitchen, is very quiet, and washes the dishes very well. From those aspects we are very satisfied. The negative parts.1. The top rack seems to be designed for a certain set of dishes, but certainly not ours. Our old Maytag dishwasher held the bowls and glasses nicely. With the new Whirlpool there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to all the angles of the rack so we can't nest the dishes. The result is the top rack doesn't handle as many dishes as the old Maytag, since they are basically jumbled.2. No rinse cycle. Again, the old Maytag had a rinse cycle which was handy if we were only loading a few dishes to wash the next day. We get around this by setting the microwave timer to 4 minutes. When the timer beeps we hit the stop/drain button on the dishwasher.3. The slots in the silverware basket covers are too small for our silverware set, so we wind up jumbling them together.Bottom line, if were to purchase another dishwasher, we would not purchase this one.

Comments about Whirlpool Black Built-In Dishwasher:
1st dishwasher that I personally have ever had a problem with. Food is left in washer. Black scum ring around inside of door. Got dishwasher through a new home. See why it was purchased by the builder. Either very inexpensive or too many in stock.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Waste of money

2.5 years old control board went out. Only works about every 5 times. A new board installed is $325. I will be buying a Bosch instead of fixing. I never liked the silverware tray. It was quiet though.

Been two years now. No complaints. Washes clean as long as its not on eco setting.
Quiet & efficient
Had this for 2 years, great unit! Quiet & efficient. Cleans well with dishwasher cleaning bottles, filter is easy to remove ; clean.

3 years in, and still loving this easy-to-use dishwasher. Handles the heavy workload of family of 5. We often need to do two loads a day. Sensor feature makes it easy. Once in a while the water jet holes in the spray arms may get clogged with food...but the arms are easily removable to clean out. Filter also easy to clean. Love the stainless steel tub. Compared to our old dishwasher: no contest.
So Far So Good

Have had this dishwasher for a couple of years now and it continues to perform well. Replaced a cheaper Whirlpool model which was too loud. That's probably why we got it free. Very satisfied with this purchase. Nice quiet machine.
Not what I expected

I've owed Whirlpool appliances since 1983 and have been so happy with them all - until we replaced our dishwasher with a very expensive Gold Series. It is quiet, that's for sure. It is "high end" with many features, but sadly the adjustable dish racks have cheap clips that began falling off the top rack before the dishwasher was three months old. How did we notice this? They fell off and melted to the heating element. Definitly a pain to find the right clips since they melted and were in the bottom of the dishwasher for probably several washes before they melted and burned. Three on the top and one on the bottom. As for the drying feature, it worked great for the first month, now whilst still not yet six months old, our dishes are still dripping wet after the drying cycle. I'd say if you want to replace your dishwasher, go for a Samsung or LG. At least it won't cost so much. This DW was almost $700.00.
Disappointed Whirlpool Fan

I bought this current dishwasher in November 2015 to replace a Kitchenaide that only lasted 10 years. I had another Whirlpool that lasted 30 years with not one single repair call ever other than replacing the rubber hoses myself just once. I wish I had taken that dishwasher with me when I sold the house. The new Whirlpool dishwasher has been a bitter disappointment. Things have changed through the years. No longer do you have a dishwasher that cleans and dries in an hours time. You now have a dishwasher that uses very little water thanks to regulations and takes 3 hours and 55 minutes to do the job. Yes-water waste is reduced but electrical consumption is up. Where are the savings-really? After that length of time, the dishes better be clean and they are but I would rather have my extra water for each cycle back and a shorter run time. For those of us who can remember when Whirlpool introduced the first dishwasher to have the in door silverware basket. That was a wonderful design as it gave you more room in the bottom rack. My old Whirlpool had not only the in door silverware basket but right above it was a single horizontal basket for large cutlery items. How did the water get up there to clean all that silverware you may ask? The lower spray arm was designed to shoot water up there and clean they were. In the new dishwasher, you still have the in door silverware basket, no cutlery basket and now, a spray tube at the front bottom of the top rack that gently sprays the water intermittently on the silverware basket - gently. With both spray arms working, they will stop and water is redirected to the tube over the silverware basket for about 10 seconds, cuts off and then the spray arms start back up. This process repeats itself every 10 minutes during the wash and rinse cycles. You have to make sure your silverware is pre rinsed. Quiet Running really means a less powerful motor to hear; hence, the need to run the cycles longer while using less water.

Longtime whirlpool customer here. My last dishwasher lasted 10 years. I purchased this model 2 yrs and 3 months ago without the extended service plan ( mistake) . Recently dishwasher was not cleaning properly and called Whirlpool's service company. The technician said a new control board and pump was needed. Cost would be equal to original cost of the unit. Called Whirlpool and got 2 different answers as to what they could do but neither solution seemed like a company willing to stand by their products. Disappointed in the product as well as the service. Less features but higher quality parts would be appreciated. Purchasing a new machine which won't be a Whirlpool this time.
