I brought the 13 cup food processor to make home made dog food. Specifically for its volume and or capacity. Two pounds of carrots, two pounds of green beans and a whole chicken boil for two hours and let stand for another. Debone the chicken and drop it into the food processor for a creaming paste like texture, the same for the beans and carrots. Yum yum my dogs eats it up. Now for the processor, the whole processor time is approximately 10 minutes! That includes loading, processing and transferring the product. I am most impressed by the machine's ease of use, its power to weight ratio, its design and add on(s). What don't I like about the machine (I'm being nit picky); the lid does not easily twist on or off at times and the joint between the lid and the food chute seems over complicated with too many parts and crevasses. Granted, this issue only revealed itself when washing the machine if let stand before washing without soaking first and when using the machine to move between small and large production / processing (ie too many choices on the food piston which is used to force the food down the food feed). Over all, my complaint pale in comparison to the OUTSTANDING pride I take we I get to pull my Food Processor out in front of a crowd of hungry onlookers (family, fiends or my animals). I feel like Tim "the Toolman" Taylor from Home Improvement and that is meant to be a compliment!

The multi-purpose blade broke the first time I used the food processor (blending dried dates). The product was immediately replaced without any hassle. After only a month using the appliance, the multi-purpose blade has again failed (this time blending nuts). The mini-blade with mini-bowl addition has never been a problem, however I didn't buy this food processor for only half its capability. The primary blade is awfully weak; and for a higher-end Kitchenaid food processor to fail twice within a month is simply unacceptable. I cannot recommend this food processor.

      Simplification at best!

Comments about KitchenAid 13-Cup Onyx Black Food Processor:

I've had this machine for a while but had not used it due to kitchen renovations. This processor is a true workhorse and makes short work of all my prep jobs. The wide mouth accommodates potatoes, zucchini, tomatoes etc., mostly without precutting. To my disappointment I've recently discovered that kitchenaid now offers this model with the dicing mechanism. Wish I had waited but glad I have it.

      insanely huge!!

      By

Comments about KitchenAid 13-Cup Onyx Black Food Processor:

I bought this & the dice attachment from QVC..it arrived yesterday & I sent it back today. It is huge...twice as big as my Vitamix...& I thought that was BIG. This stupid thing has sooo many parts, they would have required a cabinet all their own. I have arthritis in my hands & couldn't even open the dicer. I have a 30+ year old Regal LaMachine food processor that just refuses to die. It's a work horse. Thought I "wanted" a NEW more modern machine...WRONG...stick with what you know...it serves me well....& it doesn't take over my space.

      Disappointed...

      By

Comments about KitchenAid 13-Cup Onyx Black Food Processor:

Either the lid or bowl will not engage the motor...but one of them has to be replaced. This is not an old unit...hardly used when the problem started. It only works when I use a bamboo skewer to push down on the switch on the bowl...Expensive replacement parts...Which one to replace???

      Definitely Not Heavy Duty

      By

from Kansas City, MO, United States

Comments about KitchenAid 13-Cup Onyx Black Food Processor:

This was a replacement to my older Kitchenaid food processor that worked flawlessly. My husband purchased the Architect series along with two matching appliances from Kitchenaid. As others have seen, I stripped the metal blade (within the first 6 mos) when making pie dough. I made pie dough countless times with the older model. I replaced the blade on my own and now the drive adapter has stripped and will not come off the machine. It stripped and melted or otherwise stuck to the motor's shaft and upon pulling it off using pliers, the shaft broke. This occurred when I was shredding monterey jack cheese - a simple task for this machine. It's 2 years old and this is the 2nd time it broke.

Very pleased with this appliance. It does everything we have asked for and is very easy to use. The slicer is fantastic for scalloped potatoes. It's not the only Kitchenaid appliance we own and it won't be the last.

I have all of the attachments - why not let it do the work. This small appliance is a godsend! Thank you KitchenAid!!
