I love the sleek, clean lines of this Whirlpool dishwasher. The controls are easy to read and this Whirlpool holds more dishes than the KitchenAid it replaced. The first time we ran it through a cycle we had to put our ear next to the door - that is just how quite it runs. I do use a recommended rinse aid, consequently have not encountered spotting. I have used powder as well as the little cleaner packets, both with excellent results. Dishes always come out clean, but I always rinse them prior to putting the dishes into the dishwasher even though it has a scrubber cycle. Old habits are hard to die - i just can't put dishes with hardened food on them in the dishwasher to sit until it's time to run a cycle. I conducted hours of research and visited several stores to visibly inspect dishwashers which would meet our high standards of expectation - this one more than fills the bill. I highly recommend this dishwasher.

I did a lot of research before buying this dishwasher. It had most of the features I wanted, was not too expensive, had good reviews, and best of all, matched my black-appliance kitchen. Unfortunately, none of the descriptions or pictures of the unit included the fact that it has a large "Made in America" sticker on the front, as large as the Whirlpool logo and crookedly slapped on, THAT IS NOT REMOVABLE. This sticker is multicolored and destroys the look of the unit. I assumed the sticker would be easily peeled off and so let the unit be installed. I was wrong - it cannot be removed without damaging the surface of the door. This on a "designer" dishwasher?? I'm all in favor of products made in America, and I understand Whirlpool wanting to highlight that fact, but why am I forced to have this ugly sticker part of my kitchen decor?? I started out loving it, now I hate the way it looks.

Power Scour for our Dollar

Comments about Whirlpool Stainless Built-In Dishwasher:
Purchased the Whirlpool dish washer as a replacement for an older unit and we are very happy to have upgraded to a much newer model and the improved technology of this particular model. The features and use settings are very easy to set and the unit runs quietly and does an excellent job in cleaning dishes, pots and pans and other dishwasher items. So far we are extremely pleased with our purchase. Joe and Connie Link

I've had this dishwasher for a little over a year. I had to relocate the utensil rack because they weren't getting clean crammed against the door. Upper rack breaks glasses by the dozen. It just doesn't clean the dishes even when you put it on "sensor and power scour". Waste of money. DO NOT buy this dishwasher.

I am so happy with it. Compared to our old dishwasher, it is very quiet. Barely know it is going. The dishes come out clean even if you don't rinse them before hand. I did have to use jet dry for the dishes to dry. I can't say enough good about the dishwasher.
Marketing trumps Engineering

I bought this unit two years ago, and it has been a constant disappointment.Cons: 1) W10350376 Rack Adjuster (have already replaced both sides.) Google it, very common failure point. See picture below. Not too expensive of a part, but bad engineering - too much stress on a simple plastic part.2) Cleaning ability is far below the Whirlpool builder grade unit that we had when we bought our house in 1999. Low pressure and absence of really hot water makes for long running times, and still dishes are not as clean as our old unit - (we always use the Cascade pods and the rinse aid...per the instructions)3) Unit frequently leaves the detergent pod half dissolved, results in white powder goop over many of the dishes. According to Whirlpool, cause is that the water did not get hot enough (this is probably due to energy saving feature which does not super-heat the water during wash mode). recommendation from whirlpool - run hot water in sink before starting dishwasher. So much for saving the environment.... Another possible cause is medium size utensils (such as knives) in basket block the detergent compartment from opening completely during wash cycle. Again - bad design.4) The utensil basket sits on the front of the lower rack. It is a minor pain to keep from falling off of it's hooks, and the basket itself occasionally falls open and becomes difficult to close unless you remove all the silver ware.Pros: 1) Really is quiet. Can barely hear it in the background, but completely unobtrusive.2) Looks decent

It's a dishwasher with problem. Was never tested in a real kitchen. The silverware tray doesn't work as advertised. The top rack repeatedly pops loose and nearly goes crashing down, the bottom rack sometimes gets off kilter when rolling out, and you have to be very careful not to have a utensil blocking the soap drawer and check to ensure the water swing arm isn't impeded otherwise nothing gets clean. Customer support was useless. Very dissappointed as this was not the el-cheapo dishwasher. I will say if you get it loaded properly it cleans really really well - I really like the overnight option.
Big fan on this awesome Whirlpool Gold Series machine!

About 11 months ago we purchased two of these incredible dishwashers for a large new home. There is tremendous flexibility in loading the machines, my dishes come out beautifully and I never prewash! Still trying to break my family members of that unnecessary step. These dishwashers are so quiet in operation that I have to open the door to be sure if I have run them. These powerful machines take care of all the leftover food particles and we don't have to worry at all!
A disappointing purchase

After 8 months of light (twice-weekly) use, one of the plastic bumpers that cap the front of the upper rack has fallen off and cannot be re-secured. One of the front lower rack plastic coated vertical support spindles has worn through and rusted. I've coated it with nail polish to prevent further disintegration but consider these issues to be inordinate wear and tear. I would rate wash quality as marginal as it does not remove lipstick from glasses and cups or well rinsed knives used for peanut butter.
Hummm, not so much

I have had many dishwashers over time and this one is not a bad buy but it is somewhat disappointing. The general cleaning is ok if all dishes are well rinsed prior to washing. But the in-door utensils rack is awful. The utensils separator is pretty much useless since many utensils do not fit in the provided wholes. And if your utensils aren't completely clear of food particules, they will come out dirty and stained. NEVER buy a dishwasher with in-door utensils rack.
needs a light
from Lewistown, PA
Its impossible to know if the cycle is finished, without OPENING THE DOOR!! You should have a light on the OUTSIDE that ..lights up when the cycle is FINISHED!!ALSO, the silverware container should be larger, with interior slots that do not allow smaller items to get stuck.

Not the greatest dishwasher but not bad. The lower rack came damaged and Whirlpool won't replace it under warranty so the cost to get a replacement lower rack is about a quarter of what the dishwasher cost. It runs good just watch out for warranty loop holes and parts replacement costs which are really high
