almost perfect

Advantages:
- Impressive picture quality with Blu Ray. Better than the more expensive competitors.
- Not bad, but not the best DVD playback.
- Very reliable disc readability.
- Universality.
- Detailed and informative audio analog output.
- Price.

Disadvantages:
- Slightly harsh sound colored in the upper middle (analog output).
- Sometimes(rarely) when playing SACD or DVD-audio (analog output) is broken decoding and I hear pink noise. After switching off / on all normal. Is rare, but annoying.
- Not the most user-friendly menu.

Despite these shortcomings, the whole - I'm satisfied. Good all-purpose player.

DVD's & Blu-Rays does not start in the same part when the unit is turn on again, so you need to find the correct chapter to start watching. Very frustrating

Love Yamaha, been using since 1989. Only issue is when you have to leave in the middle of a movie the unit doesn't remember where you left off and you have to restart the movie. When turned on long start up time.

I have a Denon 5803 that does not HDMI input.

This unit has the 7.1 output which I hooked up to my reciever with out a problem.

My one thing I will tell you is that you have to run the set up first other wise it will not play.

I tried both DVD audio and SACD both sounded great.

I have it hooked up to a PN59D8000 TV and the picture is out of this world.

If you are thinking of buying this unit you will not be disappointed.

Many Blu-ray players leave you feeling like they came out of a cracker jack box. The BD-A1010 is actually worth it's price tag. The buttons are solid, Drive tray is smooth and quiet, and the most important thing? When you put a Movie in, you know it will play. I've had Samsung's, Sony's, Panasonic, LG.. They all put up a fuss about certain titles and updates. I love this Yamaha!

Unit works great. Loads faster than my prior Sony blu-ray player. Works seamlessly with my Yamaha A810. Up conversion of DVDs works very well, but could be a bit better. Cabinet of BD-A1010 fits on top of the A810 perfectly. Have NOT yet tried 3D.
