Comments about Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3.0 Black Cable Modem:

A great cable modem/router. Handles both wired and wireless routing plus the modem capabilities, so I replaced two Linksys units with this one Motorola unit. Lightening fast performance, even with the kids hogging bandwidth on the home network.
Lets you set up a Guest channel for WiFi access without granting access to your whole network.
Easy set up. You don't even have to call your cable provider to register the Motorola modem. The set up software does that for you! Couldn't be easier. Took about 7 minutes.
Carefull how tightly you lock down the firewall setting. If you play on-line games the tigher settings will shut off ports you need for the games. You can adjust it via the set up software that is included.
Only complaint is that the vertical design can be tricky to stand up once you have all the cables plugged in. Twist them around until they stop pulling the modem over. Or use the packaging material as a 'base' to keep it upright.

It's definitely faster and more secure then my old modem and was a breeze to setup. It also allows me to stream Netflix to my TV better.
It is a little bigger and does run slightly hotter then my old modem.

Comments about Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3.0 Black Cable Modem:

Using with Charter cable company. They claim to be giving me 30 mg download level. Wasn't even getting 10 with the old modem.

This one clocked at 36.5 (download) and 4.5 (upload).

Charter offers up 100 mg but 30 works fine for my needs which includes streaming and VPN.

I like the Gigabit ports on this unit - purchased an 8 port gigabit switch to take advantage of the higher speeds - most of my network is wired Cat-5e. I do use a few wireless devices (laptop, Sony Dash, etc). They seem to have a better connection speed consistently.

Abt matched the lowest price I found on the net.
