I looked at a LOT of washer brands and models before selecting this GDWT308VBB. The GE model line appealed to me because they have built in food grinders, are domestically assembled and my previous dishwasher was also a GE which still worked great but was a basic model from 10 years ago.I saw some other models with 3 or 4 lower decibel level claims and was concerned that maybe this new washer wouldn't be quiet enough. As soon as I ran my first load of dishes at night I knew I had nothing to worry about. This dishwasher is VERY quiet. It isn't 'silent' but even in my 1 room loft where my couch is about 8 feet from the dishwasher, it is so quiet that it is masked by normal background noise or even a quiet television.Compared to other dishwashers I looked at, I thought the racks on the GE models slid in and out more precisely and easily than some others. The controls are very straight forward. This is not a dishwasher that connects to the internet or has an LCD display or other exotic features. It is quiet, it cleans well, it heats water and has the option of a heated dry and has an adjustable rinse aid dispenser. As best as I can tell from GE's own website, the only features that more expensive models have are special use cycles, more adjustable dish racks, a detergent dispenser and a few decibel quieter operation. This model has all the cleaning technology, the dirt sensor, the water heater, the food grinder, the 5 level filtration etc that really matter to me.

I absolutely hate this dishwasher. The loading trays are impossible. I have Corelle dishes, very lght weight. The bottom loading rack only has 4 spike rows, my last dishwasher had 6 rows. On the left side there are bars under the rack, so when you put a dish or plate in it, the dish does not settle into the rack, but slithers aside. Two rows of spikes are are tilted sideways so you are limited to the size plates that can be loaded in. The top rack has 2 rows of spikes in the middle, and every alternate spike is 1 inch high. What is that for? I usually only run the dishwasher every other day, and as I load dishes into it over a couple of days, the dishes that I have previously loaded in slither and slide all around, and have to be rearranged every time I open the dishwasher to add more dishes. I have had Corelle dishes for 40 years and have never had this problem with previous dishwashers. I can't believe I never checked out the loading pattern before I purchased this dishwasher. It never occurred to me that it would be so different from previous dishwashers.

Comments about GE 24" Black Built-In Dishwasher:
I've had this dishwasher for 3 years now and I have been very happy with it's operation. The only problem I see at this point is that the trays are getting rusty.

Started rattling after 6 months of use. Disassembling to clean the sump filter resulted in 3 broken plastic pieces. I will not buy another GE product.

This dishwasher works great, it sound is hardly noticeable. We have not had any problems with this dishwasher other than one thing. We have had this dishwasher for 4 months now and for some reason as soon as we start placing dirty dishes in it, it really starts to stink really bad. So, each time we open the door to put dishes into it the stench just about knocks you over. I have not idea where that smell is coming from, but the GE Profile model that we had before for 21 years never once smelled as bad as this one does.

This seems well made, and the washer is very flexible in loading dishes. So far, the cleaning ability of this machine is very good indeed, the looks are great. While I didn't think I'd end up liking the hidden controls, they are kind of cool. The wash cycle is fairly quiet. I like the appliance.

We just bought and are very happy with the purchase. We bought GE profile series in white when we built house 17 years ago for all our appliances. It was nice to fine a GE product in stainless steel with the same look of the white appliances we a replacing at a rate of 1 a year.
