The dishwasher that came with the house we bought was at least 25 years old. You couldn't even hold a conversation in the kitchen because that thing was so loud! If eventually stopped working, and we had to buy a new one. We chose this model because a friend has a similar model and she loves it. I like that the controls are hidden, it gives it a sleek look. The black does show any dried water spots easily, but I hate white appliances and didn't want to spend the money on stainless steel. I think the silverware baskets have enough room for plenty of utensils. There are plenty of prongs on each level, so stacking multiple ways for maximum fit is possible in many ways. It is very quiet when running, so having conversations in the kitchen is easily done. I think the cycles run for a very long time, but I'm finding that seems to be the way all dishwashers are these days. The good side of that is it does a great job getting most foods off the dishes fairly well. The only time it doesn't is if the silverware bins are overly full, then some food particles may stick to utensils if packed in there too tightly. The only other complaint I have is I have arthritis, so I find the lid to the rinse aid dispenser a little difficult to remove so I have to have my husband do it. Overall I would recommend this model. We've had it for a few years and has not given us any problems.

Pros Black front, hidden controls are nice. Gray interior is fine, and would hide stains (though not white hard water deposits). Its layout is flexible to place a variety of cups, plates, bowels etc. Cons * Not as quiet as the one it replaced. (It did not claim to be the quietest available, but I hoped an average one would be as quiet as our 5 or 10 year old previous one.) * The water fills on a timer, expecting 70-90 psi (though it also has a float cut-off). Our city only has 50 psi, so if anyone anywhere in the house is using water, it doesn’t clean the dishes (it doesn’t fill enough, for the pump to have enough water to work â€" it can’t even wash the soap out of the soap dispenser). The serviceman we had out while it was still under warranty explained this, and that it has a restrictor on the water inlet, but he was not allowed to remove/open it. * It takes forever to run (especially if you are waiting to take a shower!) The service guy recommended we run it on “normalâ€ rather than “autosenseâ€ or “heavy.â€ It helps if you listen, and pour a quart or two of hot water in it as it completes each drain cycle, as it is very slow to fill. * The filter must be manually cleaned, and it clogs way too easily. In addition to cleaning it after each complete cycle, I often have to listen and clean it after the first rinse or it clogs and blocks too much water flow and the dishes don’t get clean, the detergent doesn’t even get rinsed out of the dispenser. I shouldn’t have to wash all the dishes before putting them in. Also you have to catch it just as it empties completely and before it starts filling, or the soil floats in the water and isn’t deposited on the filter to be removed. * Plates cups and dishes often don’t get clean. We have figured out that this is especially if anyone/anything is using water, or if there is more than minimal soil, and the filter gets too clogged. * The detergent dispenser frequently has a large amount of detergent residue left in and around it (especially if I don’t make sure not to use the silverware slots under and in front of it). * It does better if I put a second detergent packet in at the beginning, to help the first rinse (old dishwashers used to require that, but it doubles the detergent cost). * The top utensil holder doesn’t get enough water flow to clean â€" it’s really not usable. If I put a detergent packet on it, it doesn’t even disappear/dissolve during the first rinse cycle (even if I make sure it has enough water). * The bottom utensil holder is right under the soap dispenser, so you can’t use the middle of the front row. If you put utensils there, it traps the soap dispenser from opening. * No rinse cycle only â€" I have to run a whole wash cycle again to remove the detergent residue, or catch it just as it empties and stop it and cancel the rest of the cycle. * Silverware racks are not secure. With just two flexible plastic tabs holding them on, they fall off easily, especially when loaded. * I don’t like that I can’t see it progress through the cycles. I don’t know if it is almost done or if it’s still on preliminary rinses or even if the soap dispenser has opened without opening it to see. But then most of the new ones have this same drawback. Summary If you have very good water pressure, and you like to pre-wash your dishes, and you don’t need a lot of silverware space, and you are good at remembering to clean filters, and arranging stuff just right, it should be acceptable. If you want to have the kids or hubby run it â€" run! For an energy and time saving appliance, I give it a zero. I think I could hand wash the dishes faster and with less water!

Easy to install, runs quiet and cleans well.

Comments about GE 24" Black Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher:

Our old dishwasher went out on us mid kitchen renovation. Of course we hadn't planned to purchase a new dishwasher and by that time the budget was minimal. We originally wanted the model below this one, but much to our disappointment it was out of stock everywhere we went due to sales. We went back and scoured reviews before choosing this particular product. It seemed the best choice for our budget. We ended up getting a great deal on in it and could not be happier. First off, no more hand washing, yay! Secondly, this really is a great dishwasher (at least thus far.) We saved a little and installed it ourselves. Like most all dishwashers I've installed, it was simple and easy. It runs extremely quiet, which is important with a very open floor plan. It cleans amazingly well. It gets everything my 5 year old misses when rinsing his plate (which is basically everything:) It, in combination with a new detergent, even seems to have removed the hazy "film" left on our glasses. The top controls are great, it makes it so easy to wipe down all the goopy finger prints and sheetrock dust it collects during the day. The extra compartments in the racks are awesome, we now have a place to put everything even the awkward stuff! I highly recommend this dishwasher!

Very quiet!

By superwasher

from near St. Louis, MO

Comments about GE 24" Black Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher:

Our old unit was 9 yrs old, and this one is so super quiet, you can hardly hear it. Washes everything great. My only complaint is that I must use the heated dry option. The old unit had a vent on the front where steam could escape after the cycle and everything dried quite well. This unit has no vent and a lot of water clings to everything that is plastic, including the inside of the machine and silver racks. The manual says that you may leave the door open at the end of the cycle to facilitate drying, but with 2 cats in the house, I wouldn't want to do that! Both the salesperson and the installer said to just throw the soap packet in the bottom of the machine, but read your manual! Put it in the soap compartment, otherwise it will wash out of the machine too soon!

Dont buy this model!

By wheels54

from Chatham, IL, United States

Comments about GE 24" Black Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher:

We bought this about 3 month ago and have had several problems. A repairman has be here 5 times for fix or repair and its still not fixed. It does a horrible job drying the dishes. The soap cup door would not consistently open during each wash. The control buttons are located on the very top of the washer door making it very difficult to get our fingers between the counter top and the controls when the door is closed. Two different plastic pieces on the door have been broken by the serviceman while attempting to fix the other problems as mentioned above. Im 57 years old and have several different dishwashers in my life but this one is the worst ever.
