Have had this refrigerator for almost 2 months. Very impressed with the quality and the fit and finish. It has worked flawlessly so far. The ice maker makes ice very quickly and has not jammed at all. Some reviews say this frig is noisy and yes, because the ice is in the door, (which makes more shelf space in the freezer), you can hear the cubes fall into the ice bin but it isn't much louder than our old frig. The noises comming from the compressor and fans running are at least normal if not quieter than most other refrigerators I have heard. The inside is very nice, excellent lighting and pretty much space for a counter depth. Overall very happy with this purchase and would recommend this unit to anyone considering a counter depth refrigerator.

Although I am getting used to it, I am still unhappy with this refrigerator:*the quality of the shelves and drawers is low*the ice maker is slow and noisy*the fresh veggie pak in one drawer does not help keep veggies fresh in the other!Although we had a difficult initiation to the use of this refrigerator, I must say it does seem to cool well and I do like the lighting.We expected the same quality that we had with the previous refrigerator and have not experienced that.

Comments about KitchenAid Counter Depth Black Side-By-Side Refrigerator:
About every four weeks the temperature in the fridge side starts to climb. We have our ritual down "cold", which unfortunately is more than I can say for this refrigerator. We turn off the cooling, throw the doors open, and pack everything into the trusty mud room Samsung that we bought in Omaha 11 years ago. A few days later with the door open the ice is gone and we can start using it again.We've had the service guys out 6 times - they change motherboards, thermistors, etc. A month later there is an ice block in the bottom of the fridge and we are moving the food again.We are not going to spend another dollar on service. Until we can come up with a few extra thousand dollars to buy a reliable refrigerator, we'll be manually defrosting this thing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This is a terrible product! It has been discontinued for a reason. I didn't even want to give it a 1 star. I've had nothing but problems with ice maker stopping, condensation from door not getting sealed correctly, and coils turning to solid ice which didn't allow fridge to cool properly and spoiled a ton of food without us knowing until it was too late.

I rarely write a review for something and as an engineer myself, i tend to be understanding of technology failure but this is just ridiculous. I am writing this review after manually defrosting the fridge for the 10th time in 1.5 years of owning this. The design was beautiful, fit flush with my countertop and blend it my whole kitchen, although the price was a bit high for a dressed up Whirlpool. That's the only good thing about this. Of the 5 drawers, 3 are broken on one side because they are so fragile that it break if you push it in not perfectly in the middle. The worst is the refrigerator. It works fine for 6 months after purchase, then it was making loud noise and service was called. The ice was building up and blocked the evap fan blade. They replaced that out of precaution, defrosted and removed the ice. It worked for another 3 months before ice would build up EVERY 3-4 weeks. It would notice my vegetable getting stale, checked the bottom drawer and sure enough there was ice sticking out the opening. I would defrost and check the door to make sure there's no air coming in, but 3-4 weeks it would come back. I saw reviews everywhere about this model with the same problem. To add insult to injury, they don't have a force defrost mode like other refrigerator. My parent's 14 years old Kitchenaid Superba still works like new but my 1.5 years old is failing already. This will be the last KitchenAid appliance I would buy. It seems that their Engineering and QA department have been sleeping on the job to release such an awful piece of costly appliance and for KitchenAid to put their logo on this. To anyone considering buying this, help yourself and STAY AWAY!!!

This model is a lemon. Numerous problems with it including thick frost in the refrigerator compartment, problems with malfunctioning water dispenser, etc. I've had this less than 5 years. Lousy warranty, expensive water filters. Bad news on a simple device that should last many years.

I bought the unit less than a month ago and the temperature inside works fine, but the service repairman has not been able to resolve the poor contact of the doors closing. The door ajar icon continues to go on and off intermittently without anyone using the refrigerator. This function stops the water and ice maker dispensers and turns off the light inside the refrigerator. It may be that a solution has not yet been identified but I've had two service visits so far.

Very disappointed. Broke down after 9 months. Had bad experience with Kitchen Aid in trying to resolve this problem and also New Life appliance in follow through. Refrigerator has been down for over 2 weeks which has infuriated us.

I purchased this about 5 years ago as it matched the other appliances I purchased, range/oven and dishwasher. It never really performed properly, softened ice cream, periodically the ice maker would stop working and then all of a sudden there was ice again. The design is poorly thought out with a random small shelf under the center drawer in fridge and the drawers are flimsy and break easily. A few days ago it started making a loud buzzing noise inside the refrigerator, the ice had stopped working...AGAIN and the freezer seemed to be warming, despite putting it on max ice and max cool settings, as usual. I cleaned everything under and removed the back panel to dust and see if there was something obvious. Low and behold, the buzzing stopped by the next day and there was hope. Well, by the evening, everything in the freezer thawed and the fridge is gone too. I am not even going to get it fixed as it never worked properly. Come to find out this is a common problem of Kitchenaide refrigerators.
