I have noticed that my clothes come out of the washer, with less wrinkles and not as tangled as my old washer...Also have found that the drying time is less also..meaning it extracts more water then my old one did... but what I DON'T like about it, is that it senses the load, which takes at least 10 mins. to do so, before it even starts to wash...very quiet operation, which I disagree with what another reviewer had said, they said it was the noisiest washer they ever had... it DOES make strange noises as it washes, but does the job, and does it well and very quiet..as long as you're not in a hurry for a load..as it takes almost an hour for large load with the extra rinse cylce on...Also I don;t like the fact that the lid is locked before the washer starts to fill with water, as I like to rinse out the detergent and fabric softener lids after using....If you could live with these problems.. I do recommend this washer... I Solved the problems.. I just put everything in, close the lid, start it and, walk upstairs , and come back in about an hour to throw it in the dryer...LOL

Although this machine appears to have an agitator in the middle to ensure clean clothes, do not be deceived. Unless you use the heavy setting (which results in random holes in your clothing), it doesn't remove even any surface foreign matter. I accidentally tipped over a bowl of cereal while I was getting ready to load the washer one time, and the few pieces I didn't find before I washed the clothes...were still sitting on them when the machine finished!!! Unless you HEAVILY pre-treat fresh stains, don't expect them to look anything but wetter after washing it. After just 3 months of light use the machine started shaking and flailing about when it tried to spin. After the lights went out and it stopped, I opened the lid - only to have it start up lid OPEN an hour later. This utterly voids the purpose of the safety "lid lock" feature. After I unplugged it and let it sit a day, I tried the spin/drain cycle but it wont spin at all. I never overload the washer - there's no point in even trying since then it doesn't even fully wet the clothes. By overload I mean even ever-so-lightly press down on the clothes to tuck in a pair of shorts or tee shirt. Overall, if you want wet dirty clothes, go with Maytag (which is the same manufacturer as an identical Whirlpool machine) - otherwise choose another machine.

Gets out of balance too easily.

Comments about Maytag Centennial White Top Load Washer:
Cannot wash anything as heavy as a bath robe or blanket without getting out of balance. This is disappointing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Better than those overpriced front load washers
from Houston, texas
I love this machine. I would not trade it for any other machine. We were on a budget and could not afford to buy a washer dryer set for $2000. The first day I had it in our home I washed about 10 loads of laundry and I noticed how clean our clothes were (and I only use cold water) and how fast the clothes dried. Fast drying clothes means the washer is spinning out all the excess water and doing its job. The machine makes noises one might consider abnormal if you are not aware of the noises the new washer and dryers make now days. The wash time does take a little longer than I am used to with all the sensing but that gives me time to fold and put away everything from the dryer. I have read some reviews about the washer not filling up with enough water. I dont know how anyone would know if there is enough water or not as the lid locks. Also, if you read the directions on the top of the lid it even states that it does not notfill up all the way with waster and that should not freak anyone out.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Loving this excellent washer
from North Carolina
This is the smartest washer I've ever owned. I pour in detergent, load it, set water temp, and type wash - close the lid. It LOCKS and begins sizing up my load, and adding the correct amount of water. It runs so quiet and I love how it spins quietly and signals when the load is done.
Durable, Dependable, Quite, No Buttons to push.

Had a Maytag Extra Capacity Heavy Duty top load washer for 23 years. The new one is larger & can truly fit more including comforters/bedspreads with no problem. Cost less than 23 yrs. ago! Wider opening too! I would highly recommend their product!
More tub room
from Jacksonville, NC
Love the extra tub room and the more efficient water usage. It took a bit to get use to the sensor change clicks. Gets clothes cleaner with less detergent and water so helps with saving money.
This washer serves the needs of a family of seven.
from Tacoma, WA
We bought our Maytag drier at Home Depot. They have a large selection of appliances, great delivery, and a military discount that we need. I had a Maytag before and that's why I bought this one. We have three teens, a kindergartener, and a toddler and my wife always has a plan for the washer. It is quiet, reliable, the clothes are always clean. We use HE Tide detergent. It uses a small amount of water, too. Tacoma has an energy efficiency program that both of our Maytags met. My wife and I are really happy with these purchases.

Love it. Love everything about it. Can't think of any downsides.
It sounds like a rocket launching!
from Statesville, NC
After balancing your dirty laundry very carefully around the outside of the tub and adding the softener ball this machine proceeds to sound like a launch! It's thinking! Do it quietly and quickly! Our laundry area is in our kitchen but needless to say I don't multitask with laundry. The whole wash cycle takes forever! No buzzer for completed cycle! Not a happy owner.
Doesn't spin/dry properly just after a year
from Kop, pa
Awful! We have to put the cycle on an additional spin cycle to dry our clothes more. After a wash load is finished, we open the lid & clothes are sopping wet! This is only after 1 year!
The choices for different wash loads is very helpful
from Emporia KA
Definitely like the fact that the machine allows only the amount of water needed for individual wash loads. Thanks!
