I had been researching for months before deciding on this washer. I was in no rush since my 25 year old washer was still working. But it had started making new noises and I figured it was only going to be a matter of time before it gives up the ghost. I can tell you so far that I have been happy with this new washer. I was a little worried about the new HE washers in general after reading and hearing different complaints. But I can say I have not experienced the issues a lot of people may go on about. The washer cleaned my white and colored clothes very well.Keep in mind that you will need to read the manual and follow the directions. You just can?t toss the clothes in it any old way. It has a very large capacity, but don?t over load it. No washer will wash well over loaded. The wash cycles may be a little longer than the older washers. However the timer shows the estimated time left until it is finished. Yes, there are some cycle settings with selected options that may take an hour or so. You must use HE type detergents for this washer. However make sure to use the amounts the HE detergent recommends for a load. Plus this washer will make different sounds compared to the older washers. But I didn?t find it loud in my opinion. And last if you are coming from the old school washer, you must select the options if you use the bleach and/or fabric softener dispenser(s).For an endnote, I have not experienced any major tangling or major wrinkling. But I must note that I often use a medium or low spin speed since I read it helps control wrinkling issues. Plus you may want to use the extra rinse option depending on the brand of detergent you use. A sensitive nose may pick up a low detergent scent depending on the brand you use. But the extra rinse option seems to take care of that if it is an issue for you. Overall, I am very happy with this washer.

I have been using this machine for 6 months, and I am disappointed with it's performance. The only thing that is high efficient about this washer is the amount of water, or lack thereof, that it uses. The cycles on this machine have a running time that are 2 to 3 times longer than a standard washer, so the machine definately uses more electricity. Out of 16 cycles available, I am only using 1 (the Bulky Items cycle) because the water level in this cycle is enough to allow the laundry to move freely without twisting into a mess. It took me several minutes to untwist a king size flat sheet so it could be put into the dryer. The machine is beautiful to look at and has every feature you could wish for except the ability to set the water level you desire. If Whirlpool would design/manufacture a component to install on this washer to allow water level adjustment then, for me, this would be a 5 Star appliance without a doubt.

BEARINGS ARE BROKEN "Throw it out" Serviceman Said
from New Jersey
Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum Chrome Shadow Top Load Washer:
This machine is less than 4 years old. It was not CHEAP. The Machine takes a long time to get through the loads of laundry. Leaves spots on the clothes when you use fabric softener. Started making a loud noise when rinsing and spinning. Started to get an error code UL which I thought meant uneven load. I would unplug the unit and it would go away. This lasted about 2 weeks. Then it would not finish its cycle, or drain or do anything. I had the PSEG guy come to the house and he rotated the tub right and left and said we can't fix this. Throw it out! I said what, and he stated the part is about $200 plus his labor cost per hour and you will pay about 800 for the repair. Just throw it out and buy a new one. I couldn't believe what I just heard. Then I went online and it looks like there are hundreds of people with the same problem as me and bad bearings. Washing Machines should last 10-15 years. Not 3.75 years. They are not a product you should even think about after purchasing. I am so upset with Whirlpool and this product I will probably never buy another one again! Also the customer service chat person could not have been more rude and disinterested in my appliance or issues with it.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Cabrio is effective with spin cycle
By Somewhat happy
from Vermontville, mi
We bought our washer and dryer approximately 6 months ago. We believe we are saving money with using less water and less electricity with the dryer. The down side of this washer is the spin cycle is so efficient that the wrinkles do not come out without ironing! Also, I need to call the repair department as the washer is beginning to make noises! If this is a simple fix we will be very happy!

Very pleased so far!

We have owned our washer for 10 days, and so far we are very pleased. The washer is quiet, no trouble balancing even bulky towels or jeans. Clothes are very clean!
OK, but not great
Bought the Platinum in 2012. I bought the extended warranty. Of all things, the lid quit working. Evidently, this is a huge problem, since the parts are on indefinite backorder. Since it was warranted, the company I bought it from (Lowes) is buying it back, tax included. I will buy the newer version, with warranty. I can rent it for $110 (extended warranty) every three years!

I bought my cabrio after my front loader broke beyond repair. I have had it for about a year now. It has been reliable, quiet enough to watch TV. My clothes are clean. I am satisfied with my purchase.

We bought this washer as a replacement for the same washer which failed after a little over a year and the repair was going to cost more than a replacement. It is a tough product to review because I really liked the washer and dryer and am hoping this was an exception in the quality. We are moving to a new home and I am going to get another cabrio.
Love this washer but bearings are going bad!
from North Carolina
My wife and I absolutely love this washer but unfortunately the bearings are going bad after only two years. This may be a manufacturing defect. The result is a VERY loud noise during spin cycles. It will be interesting to see if Whirlpool will stand behind this defect and offer to repair.
Better than expected

I was wary of some of the reviews I have seen on HE machines, but so far this one has been great at removing stains from my kids' clothes. My only complaint so far is that sometimes when I do loads of darks they require an extra rinse, as there appears to be soap residue on them. That's a pain, especially when you don't notice right away. But really everything else has been great so far.
Love it..works great
