Our very first HE washer and so far, we are not disappointed. I bought this on the recommendation of a good friend who was highly skeptical of HE washers and absolutely loves her Cabrio. After reading negative reviews, I decided to try it anyway. The most commonly repeated criticism is the perception that the washer is not getting clothing clean and is leaving detergent residue. After the second load, which had a couple of Navy blue items, we noticed some lighter markings on the clothes.Hmm, I wasn't sure so gave the clothes an additional rinse. They came out with even more "lighter areas".This is presumably what people interpret as incomplete rinsing. Not at all! The washer does such a good job with the spin cycle that some areas come out much drier than others giving this appearance. Once the clothes were hanging to dry, these marks went away completely with no residue! Perfectly cleaned. The big test will be to see how long we go with no repairs. We'll certainly do our best to take care of this big investment! It's a good-looking beast and didn't take up any more room than the old washer. Can't wait to try blankets, etc. It sounds like it will cost next to nothing energy-wise. Quiet, too.

My mother-in-law and I sat there and watched the entire cycle-there is a nice drum light just for this purpose. This washer is sleek and looks very snazzy, but the functional design is ridiculous. The agitator only agitates items directly up against it and does not circulate the clothes efficiently. Some items get in the middle and get the dickens scrubbed out of them; others barely move, being stuck against the side of the drum.If this washer cleaned well I'd have no issues with it at all. I'd happily put up with the noise, which I do not find excessive. However, as is half the clothes come out almost knotted, the other half have merely been partially submerged (due to eco-effecient operations) in soapy water.

Don't waste your money or time
By Mom of Boys
from St. Louis
First, let me tell you I did my research before purchasing this washer a few years ago. I have two boys so I do lots of laundry. The pros to this washer is you can do a large load of clothes. The one thing I hate about it is it gets un-level ALL THE TIME. Even for regular loads, and especially if you wash blankets and bedspreads and sheets a lot. It is SO annoying. It's a total time waster as you have to babysit it on the spin cycle because if it gets un-level, it makes a God awful extremely LOUD banging noise and shakes the entire level of house it is located at. After the first year I had trouble with the pump that gets water out of the tub, told the technician about the leveling, and he assured me mine was level and said he gets those complaints about this washer all the time. It also doesn't get all the soap out at times during the rinse even though I use minimal soap. And forget about using bleach unless you have it on the bulky cycle and it fills up the entire tub with water or your clothes will come out like tie dyed garments.

Easy, hassle-free washing

A unit that is less than 4 years old and subject to moderate use has now had its 2nd control board fail. Each replacement costs over $350 installed. Whirlpool should remedy this obvious manufacturing defect.
Not a big fan of low water volume

While for the most part that washer works as intended we find some loads don't wash well as the top layer of clothing stays on top and never gets fully emerged in the water for a good wash or rinse. Will go back to front load washer next go around.

Not worth the money
from Dayton, Nv
I have owned my washer for three years. About six months ago I noticed that it sounded much louder while spinning. A few days after, their was grease splatter around the bottom of the washer. After a sort time of research I found that many people reported the same issue. I have owned whirlpool products in the past and the company use to be good at backing their products. I called the service department and they told me it was not part of a recall and the warranty was expired. They offered to send a repair man out for a ridiculous fee. The worst part is that they discontinued making the primary bearing that will fix the problem. The only way to repair it now is to purchase the outer drum that has the bearing already installed. This will cost $400.00!! I would not recommend this product to anyone and I feel that whirlpool customer service has gone from great to terrible.

3 yrs later replacement parts exceed cost of new washer
By very disappointed customer
from Boise ID
What started out as a great washer has turned quickly into a nightmare. After just a few years of using the product, as specified in the user guide, the washer is beyond repair. It will cost us well over $1000 in replacement parts for a washer that can be replaced with the same version for half that cost. Highly disappointed with Whirlpool - here we thought we were buying into a product made in the USA - built with quality parts. We were so very wrong! This washer is built to last 3-5 years, with the need to replace motor, basket and tub parts every few years. What a terrible throw away product you've created! Great job creating an "earth friendly" product that requires the consumer to replace parts so frequently. Highly disappointed with this product. Would never recommend it to anyone!
Loving my new washer & dryer set
I bought this a couple of weeks ago and love the appearance. The washer seams to really clean my clothes well.
My whirlpool is a lemon

This is the worse machine I have ever owned. I have to constantly stand over it because it gets out of balance all the time! It does not matter if it's a small or large load. The Ul error comes on all the time! For what I paid for this machine, it should do a lot better than it does! Standing over it to be sure it doesn't get out of balance takes a lot of time.
