Not only do I own a 6 quart KA mixer, but also an Artisan food processor. When it came time to replace my slow cooker, my first choice was of course, KitchenAid. I love this slow cooker. Like all KA appliances, it is both aesthetically pleasing and a workhorse as well. Cleans like a breeze, cooks chef-worthy meals and looks great on my countertop. Don't waste money on a cheap slow cooker, get the best name in countertop appliances and you'll have years of great meals.

Our kitchen is full of KitchenAid products, so I am surprised at the poor quality of the slow cooker's insert. I received this cooker as a Christmas gift last year, have used it less than 2 dozen times, if that, and the ceramic insert cracked while using it a couple weeks ago. I smelled a burning smell - lifted out the insert - only to find the stew had somehow "spilled" into the metal area of the slow cooker. That "spill" turned out to be a leak from a hairline crack in the insert. Given the way we care for our cookware, electrics, etc - cool before washing, storing carefully (inside, room temp), etc., I am perplexed at how easily (and soon) this insert failed. This review does not reflect my satisfaction with KitchenAid products in general, but I would not purchase this slow cooker again and do not recommend it to others. For the price, this slow cooker should have lasted years, not months.

This Slow Cooker is Too Slow
from Tulsa OK
Comments about KitchenAid 6 Quart Stainless Steel Slow Cooker:
Here's the problem...No Gaskets. The lid and frame need gaskets.Without a lid gasket, the lid rocks, therefore losing heat and moisture.Without a frame gasket, heat is lost between the frame and crock.I realize it is called a slow cooker but, really, this thing will not cook.I notice the gaskets are sold separately. Give me a break.

First time using & Error Code: aka 'There goes your dinner!'
from Aurora, Il
Maybe it was the one I got but I have never had anything in my kitchen NOT WORK upon first use. I think it cooked for 35 minutes and then I noticed no lights on? So I turned it on again and turned it to my setting- same thing happens. Then 'Er' pops up. Scrambling for the book I read on and on, only to find that everything they say to do, I did (checking circuits, outlet, etc). I was lost. A KitchenAid? My first, my one and only... KitchenAid??? I can hear my Austrian mom in the back of my head, "Tawesa, you know all those glowy electric gadgets in cars and stuff that's suppose to be cool doesn't last lowng." ...Not cool man, not cool.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I find after several uses that this product lives up to the advertisement for this item.
Solid Slow Cooker!
from Akron, Ohio
Prior to this purchase I used a Crockpot brand slow cooker. It was very poor quality and the stone bowl cracked so I had to have It replaced, not once but 3 times in 3 years! I could not be happier with the Kitchen aid crock pot I got. It is well made and a good design.

Doesn't seem to heat well on low setting
I am still undecided about this slow cooker, have owned it for a couple of weeks I replaced an All Clad with the cast aluminum insert that suddenly quit working after 3 1/2 years, but was perfect until that time. I have fixed a dish with chicken thighs, cooked on medium heat, which turned out perfectly. However, I tried a chuck roast; started it on low for four hours, then added potatoes and carrots, and switched to medium for seven hours. The potatoes were still hard, and the roast was not tender. Cooked on high for 2 more hours. By this time, everyone was starving, so we had to eat. But roast was still not tender. Not sure about this slow cooker....and would take any advice!
On my first years I used to make beans at a low setting for 24 hours. The beans were properly cooked through. I'm going to make two more test batches of beans at different settings and times before I add another star to the rating

I have the predecessor to this model, and if these are anything similar then beware of the ceramic inserts. We owned ours for around 2 years (despite the serial number showing it was made in 2011), with in total around 40-50 uses over the two years. Yesterday we were cooking with it and the ceramic insert just cracked and leaked the contents all over the counter - we have always looked after the cooker, always putting room temperature ingredients into it, and never putting it into the dishwasher. When I called customer services they advised that because I no longer had the receipt that they would use the serial number to determine its age, and unfortunately, I didn't live in the USA until 2 years after it was manufactured! the only offer was that they could send me a slightly discounted new bowl which I would have to pay for. We have all Kitchenaid products and have been very pleased with them, but this is a real disappointment.
Can't buy insert replacements

My insert cracked, and much like "Swim Mom," I find that it is always out of stock.

I have had this slow cooker for less than a year and have treated it perfectly. Never any temperature extremes, frozen foods or hot foods that would abuse the insert, yet the insert is cracked and now I find I cannot order another one. I have always been a Kitchenaid fan but this may be the end. I need better customer support than this.
Love this Crock Pot
from Bowie, MD
I love the 3 temperature setting (low, medium, high). The food cooks very evenly. The digital settings are easy to use. This is a far superior product to my last Crockpot which served me well for 10 years, but finally gave out. I am so glad that I went with a KitchenAid this time.
