This is an excellent refrigerator with all the features we need. The counter-depth design is just right for our kitchen. The full-depth predecessor somewhat obstructed the entryway. A drawback of the smaller dimensions is that a gallon-size milk jug doesn't fit in the door, but that's not a major concern now that we are empty-nesters. To better utilize the space we had to buy an extra shelf for the freezer compartment and an extra tub and frame for the refrigerator door. These parts turned out to be very expensive. The ice-maker didn't work very well so we called for service. The technician came quickly and decided that the problem was a loose connector. It still didn't work so a second call brought a technician that had the foresight to bring a new ice-maker. It was installed, the water line was thawed out and the ice-maker now works perfectly

I want to warn potential buyers that the fridge that will be delivered will most likely not look as beautiful as what you see in the pictures online. We purchased two of these refrigerators from Sears and have had a terrible experience so far. Both of the initial refrigerators were delivered with dents and/or "waves" in the stainless steel. I assumed these resulted from the delivery process so we requested that two new refrigerators be sent out. The 2 new replacements both arrived dented as well (must blame the poor delivery service of Sears for this as the delivery guys dropped one of them in the driveway and probably did something to cause damage to the other as well). Two more fridges were sent out and we requested that they inspect them before loading them on the truck for delivery (strange this wouldn't be standard practice). They both arrived with no apparent dents, but both still had "waves" in the stainless steel (one looked almost identical in location to the one it replaced). I realized at this point that it must be a manufacturing issue at Whirlpool. We purchased all new KitchenAid appliances for our recently built home and had done the same for the home we built about 10 years ago as we were happy with them and thought they were also quite beautiful. I'm not sure what has happened since then, but the look of the new refrigerators is very disappointing. My first impression when they were brought in was that they looked identical to the much cheaper Whirlpool and Maytag refrigerators, only with a KitchenAid logo. The stainless steel doesn't even look the same as what is on the other KitchenAid Architect appliances we purchased. I don't expect a completely different refrigerator than less expensive brands as they are all made by Whirlpool, but what happened to quality control? Is it too much to ask for a fridge like one shown in all of the pictures online, and one that looks like it is a little nicer than the less expensive brands? Six out of the 6 refrigerators delivered had similar issues to varying degrees. I started to ask Sears to replace these last two again, but figured I'd end up with the same waves in the new one's as well. And don't even get me started on Sears delivery. You will be lucky if they don't damage your house along with the refrigerators during delivery (I'll post these comments on the Sears website). I can't comment yet on the function of the fridges as we just received them, but be warned about their looks. If we didn't want all the appliances to match we would go to a different brand at this point as KitchenAid doesn't seem to be cutting it with their refrigerators. I will say that we have had none of these same issues with the other new KitchenAid appliances though (dishwasher, double convection oven, and 2 microwaves). The two attached photos will give you a good idea for what to expect. Note the "wave" look in the upper left corner on both refrigerators and also the one on the right side a little above the plastic for in the second photo. You'll have to look past the mess and plastic on the front. Believe it or not, this is how the Sears delivery people left things. I mentioned the new refrigerators had the wrong handles and asked if we could use the handles from those that were replaced, and the delivery guys went outside to make a call and ended up just loading the old fridges and driving off.

Comments about KitchenAid Black Counter-Depth Side-By-Side Refrigerator:
I have had this fridge since October 31, 2013. I have had water leaking under the fridge (cracked water line), I had EVERY drawer face get pulled off and are now glued on with epoxy. And now, now I have had no ice for over two months. The extended warranty service that I purchased through Kitchenaid has been out 4 times and is scheduled for a fifth. The appoint is in 7 days, he will order parts, and then I will have to wait another 7 days for him to install it. And from all the reviews, it looks like it will not be fixed. Good thing this refrigerator has been discontinued. Kitchenaid should recall every single one of them.

We bought this unit 2 years ago, I regret every minute. Not only does the ice in the icemaker shoot all over the place when dispensing, it also is constantly getting "stuck". I bought an extended plan with the unit and have had to use it several times in 2 years. I am getting the icemaker changed out again, a loud noise this time. The shelves in the refrigerator are corroding, due to "air", unknown reason, tech didn't know, so he is replacing the gasket. Mold has appeared around the light on the side, another reason for replacing gasket
Continual Icemaker Problems
from Raleigh, NC
This two-year old refrigerator has had a continual series of icemaker problems, the most significant being water occasionally not freezing in the ice maker, being dumped into the bin, and then running out the dispensing chute. Our first experience with a KitchenAid unit, and we are disappointed.

Warning: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

I've had this model for 3 years and if there was a negative star, I would give it 2 negative stars. The ice maker would stop for no reason and then start back up for no reason. In June of 2016, some water line started leaking on the fridge side. The warranty repairman showed me an s-curve plastic tube which was behind the vegetable drawer (location of the leak) that he said was clogged. He cleaned out and suggested that I keep paper towels under the drawer. Sure enough, layers of paper towels came out sopping wet day after day. Called warranty repairman back as original problem not fixed. Came back and removed the entire back of fridge side. Now water is pouring out of the water dispenser. Warranty and repairman are giving me the run around. DO NOT BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY. They use poor quality service providers and it's my fault that the fridge is leaking. Oh, and if it is not leaking, they will charge me a service call. What??? Huge disappointment in KitchenAid though no surprise to them in the profit department. How can they design and build a costly machine that lasts for 2-3 years?

I am reviewing the KitchenAid Side by Side refrigerator Model #KSC23C8EYY. I purchased it in June of 2013 and now, in September of 2016, I am in the midst of my FOURTH repair episode. The first one occurred just three months after purchasing, and it took several visits for a repairman to find and replace the cracked water line. The second episode, 11 months after purchasing, resulted in the icemaker and water valve being replaced. After owning the unit for a year and a half, the freezer stopped operating and it was determined that the control board had to be replaced. Now, two years after that, again, cooling has ceased. This time I've been told it's the compressor that needs to be replaced. It took KitchenAid's authorized service six days to come to my apartment and it will be another 3-7 days before the compressor is replaced. I've thrown out hundreds of dollars worth of food, again, and am again faced with living for two weeks without refrigeration. This appliance is 3.5 years old and it has given me nothing but grief.
I have last year's version of this refrigerator, purchased in January 2015. Only 19 months old, and it died, needing three major parts which still have not arrived in almost two weeks. Not a good experience, and I would not purchase Kitchen Aid again.
Not the old Kitchenaid!

I have had this refridgerator for about 1 1/2 years and it is the worst one I have ever had. Cheaply made plastic parts!-drawer fronts break off easily, ice maker is undependable, I take good care of my appliances and have never had these issues with any previous one. Kitchenaid used to be a high end brand, if this is representative of their quality, I will not be patronizing them again!
Nothing But Problems
By Not Mrsfreeze
Hi. I thought I was doing right by finally buying, what I thought, was the best kitchen appliances - Kitchenaid. Unfortunately, I have had problems with both the double oven and this fridge. Lucky for me I bought extended warranty for both and boy did those warranties get put to work. The oven's heating element went and another started sparking. For the fridge, there was always mold growing in the back, getting on all of my items. Then the freezer stopped freezing my ice cream. My kids loved the fact that they could drink their ice cream. I wasn't too impressed. Glad I had another freezer to use. Anyway long story short, Thanks to the extended warranty, I will be exchanging. I thought I was just unlucky with this fridge but after reading these reviews, I guess I wasn't the only unlucky one so I will exchange for a different brand. Really sorry cause wanted this relationship to work out.
Do NOT buy this refrigerator!

Buyer be warned! Do NOT buy this model. It is a total piece of rubbish! We purchased this refrigerator less than two years ago. In that time, we have had the ice maker repaired and eventually replaced. We also had a new compressor installed/replaced. Most recently, we had to have a new thermostat installed as the refrigerator wasn't cooling properly. Each time the refrigerator broke down, we lost so much food. Obviously, this was a total bummer. However, the other problem was that the repair company couldn't repair it for over a week each time. 2-3 days to order parts plus another few days to get the repair date scheduled. Oh and by the way, we have had a few of the plastic drawers replaced as well. I let Kitchen Aid Customer Service know about my concerns and they stated I should have gotten an "extended warranty". What? I personally don't think any of these items should have broken within the first 5-10 years of owning it let alone within the first 2 years. In summary, consider another model or brand!!!
