Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier, Model AP450

Who needs Whispure?
The fact is, your family may inhale dust, smoke, pollen and a host of other particles every day. What's more, indoor air levels of many pollutants may be two to five times higher than outdoor levels, according to the EPA. And today's families spend nearly 90% of their lives indoors.

What can you do about it? Clear the air, with the Whispure™ Air Purifier. It's the quietest high efficiency air purifier you can buy.

Breathe easy. Here's the nasty stuff that Whispure inhales for you.
If you suffer from allergies or asthma, you want your home's air to be as clean as possible. That's why you'll be pleased to learn that the Whispure™ Air Purifier uses an exclusive Filtrete™ True HEPA Filter from 3M. It captures 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns from air passing through the filter.* Exactly how small is that? 1,100,000,000 would fit in an area less than a square inch. Which is bad news for dust, pollen and smoke. And very good news for all of us.

Pleasant dreams with peace and quiet.
You need an air purifier that keeps working, even while your family sleeps. And that's the Whispure™ Air Purifier. It filters more air with less sound.

The inside story on Whispure:

  • Whispure has the power to inhale microscopic airborne particles like dust, pollen, pet dander and smoke.
  • Once air is inside Whispure, the 3M Charcoal Pre-Filter pre-cleans it, to reduce odors and filter out large particles.
  • Next, the exclusive Filtrete™ True HEPA Filter from 3M captures 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns from passing air through the filter.
  • Finally, Whispure circulates filtered air back into your home. And it filters a roomful of air in just 10 minutes, which maintains the recommended 6 Air Changes per Hour (ACH).

You're in complete control.
Whispure has three fan speeds to fit your needs. You simply turn it on, adjust the speed, and Whispure does the rest. It's that easy to clear the air.

A change for the better.
The two-stage filter system inside Whispure keeps going strong for a long time. But how do you know when it's time to change filters? Just glance at the indicator lights. You can even register on-line to have replacement filters sent directly to your home, precisely when you need them. Keeping your home's air clear simply doesn't get any easier.

Which one uses the most energy?
The Whispure™ Air Purifier swallows plenty of dust, pollen and smoke, but it never consumes a lot of energy. The truth is, the Whispure Air Purifier uses approximately the same wattage as an ordinary light bulb.

Whispure works behind the scenes.
Where's Whispure? Chances are, it's hidden away against a wall or even in a corner. But rest assured, Whispure is still cleaning the air. That's because it uses front to top airflow, so you can put your Whispure wherever you need it most. And there's a Whispure model for every room in your home.

room feels cleaner
By smelling clean air from Charlotte, NC on 05/12/2008.
Best Uses: Bedroom, Larger Rooms
Pros: Inexpensive, User friendly, Long life, Quiet
Primary use: Personal
Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented
Cons: Unattractive
We purchased for our first child's very large bedroom (near 300sqft plus high ceilings). We have a different brand in our master bedroom and it does work as well. When I enter our child's bedroom it feels like the air is cleaner/fresher and she is still in diapers. We now have our second child and I am looking for another AP45030R.

Pros: User friendly, Attractive Design, Quiet
The unit is very quiet at the lowest speed. The medium and high speeds are quiet enough if you are awake but are a little too loud for sleeping. There has been a noticable reduction in dust accumulation in the room where the unit is located.

Pros: Attractive Design, Quiet, Really works, User friendly

Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented
Cons: Recirculates cold air
We moved into an antique house and our son started having bad athsma attacks. Within 2 days of running this product his athsma attacks stopped, and he no longer needed rescue doses of his nebulizer. We put it in the playroom where he spends a lot of time. The product is quiet, we run it on low and it works fine. The only thing I am not crazy about is that when the product is running it seem to recirculate cold air. This will be a plus in the summer.

Consumers Reports recommended this product and boy were they right on. I have tried several of the others and nothing compares. [...]. Also, if you have a major dust problem use a vacuum hose to clean off the pre-filter once every couple of weeks, they will easily last for months. Lastly, I have been looking for a good air purifier for about 10 years; at last my wait is over. I will be buying another within the next few months. WOW, MY SEARCH IS REALLY OVER.

It Really Works

Best Uses: Bedroom
Pros: Effective, Reasonably Quiet
Cons: None so far
Primary use: Personal
Describe Yourself: Quality Oriented, Value Oriented
We have had a serious dust problem in our bedroom for years. We tried the Ionic Breeze and it only picks up very fine gray powdery particles. With this unit we hooked it up and the dust accumulation almost stopped. I would estimate that dust accumulation on surfaces in the room are down to 20% or less than the previous level. Dramatic improvement! To make room for the unit, I removed a fan I had in the bedroom for white noise, and this unit is quieter even on the highest setting. It could be louder and I would be just fine. We are really happy with it. Superior product.

By Wu family from Raleigh, NC on 03/29/2007.
Best Uses: Anywhere
Cons: Expensive, Unattractive
Describe Yourself: Homeowner
Pros: Quiet
This is a great product and one of the top choices by Consumer Digest. It is quiet and really cleans the air. It greatly improves the allergy situation in our house. The only downside is that it is bulky and requires change of filter yearly, which makes the maintenance a bit expensive (~$100 per year.
DDGJ ~ Definitely Does a Great Job!
By No Dander Dave from Chicopee, MA. on 03/24/2007.
Best Uses: Home
Describe Yourself: Homeowner
Pros: Inexpensive, Well Constructed, Long life, Quiet
Cons: Larger than others
Purchased this unit soon after we came home with a new puppy. My concern was for family members with allergies. One of the measures taken was this Whirlpool Air Purifier because of how well it had been rated and the price range that it came under. It immediately made a noticeable difference in the quality of the air. Then upon our 1st indicater light (Nice feature) to change the filter we were amazed at all the amount of pollutants it had trapped. Also filter change was a snap. It runs very quiet and we have had no significant increase in our electric costs. One thing that we don't particularly care for is the large size of the unit. But based on its performance it is a small trade off.
Works well

It's a box with a fan that has a filter in front of it. The clean air comes out of the top. It works very well.
Pleased Enough to Buy a Second One
By Jocelyn from Houston, TX on 09/1/2006.
Best Uses: Everyday Use
Pros: Simple Controls, Plug-in Ready, Easy To Clean
We bought this product to help with the kids' allergies. We notice there's still dust in the room, but based on what loads up in the filter, we know there is LESS dust. We run this product at the lowest of the three speeds because it is quieter at that speed. At the lowest speed, we barely notice its operation. We leave it plugged in and running 24/7. It actually produces a nice white noise that helps sleepers ignore noises in the rest of the house. I always hate a putty color, but it doesn't show dirt, which is a big plus. Installing new filters is straightforward, and it's particularly helpful to have a light come on indicating it's time to change the filter. We've run one of our two units for about 1-1/2 years now, and still have not been prompted to clean the more expensive HEPA filter.

Great Purifier For Any Household
By Pollution Fighter from Encino, CA on 08/11/2006.
Pros: Easy To Assemble
Best Uses: Everyday Use
After reading about this purifier [...] we thought we would give it a try. It was a little pricier than I would have liked to pay but you do get what you pay for. We have used this purifier on a daily basis for the last 3 weeks and could not be happier! When we walk into a room where the air purifier is pumping it just feels like the air is sooo much purer! We are getting ready to buy another one for downstairs! We would highly recommend!

Mom's B'day Gift
By Poncho from Saddle Brook, NJ on 08/8/2006.
Cons: Bulky, Loud
Best Uses: Everyday Use, Large Rooms
Pros: Simple Controls, Powerful
I gave it to my mom as a b'day gift and she has been using it in her bedroom all the time 24x7. Though she has said nothing I have noticed that she is sleeping much better and not having all the respiratory problems she use to have without an air cleaner. She is not showing the symptoms of "allergy" or cold that she had prior to me installing the appliance in her room. It's not loud in the low setting but once you pump it to medium or high then it does make lots of noise but its white noise in low setting. Both she and her dog are doing great. Though its pricey I think its worth it - 3 weeks and counting -

Pros: Easy To Clean, Simple Controls, Powerful, Compact, Easy To Assemble
Best Uses: Everyday Use, Large Rooms
This purchase was to see if the filtration system made a difference in my sleeping since I have severe allergies. I was amazed how much better I felt after the first night! Slept much better and woke up feeling allergy free. Furthermore, the fan is quite enough to not keep you awake. And, not sure if you could find an easier system at this price to set up, clean, ease of use and to remain fairly compact.
I would buy this product again

By Gracie's the boss from Houston, TX on 07/10/2006.
Pros: Compact, Powerful, Simple Controls
Best Uses: Large Rooms, Everyday Use
I have severe allergies and my doctor recommended I purchase an air purifier with a HEPA filter and return the ionic model I had previously purchased. After researching for several days, I found the Whirlpool Whispure was one of the most recommended air purifiers. I was pleasantly surprised that such a powerful air purifier was so quiet and still affordable. I have the purifier in my bedroom and I hardly hear it when on the lowest setting plus it doesn't have the ozone by-product that is produced by the ionic purifiers. The only drawback to this product is it's styling which looks like it was designed for an office setting. I highly recommend this product.
