I purchased this range more than 60 days ago. To date, I have absolutely no complaints. I love the large glass oven door, which allows me to check on my baked items without opening the door and releasing heat. Having five burners is also a major plus. Although I was originally concerned about keeping the black range top clean, I have found that as long as I clean it after every use it sparkles and shines just like new. I purchased a silicone mat to place on the bottom of the oven and that has proven to be a life saver. Instead of having to clean the baked on spills after Thanksgiving all I had to do was remove the mat and sweep the gunk right into the trash. Overall, I love this Range.

This range has performed fairly well for the last 8 months. The burners are pretty hot, it is hard to do anything on a low simmer. I have to put the pans on the smallest burner on the lowest setting to avoid burning or over cooking for meals that require a long slow simmer. I love the large metal grates vs. the usual individual burner grates. The oven heats up well and cooks pretty evenly, no complaints about cooking performance, WHEN IT STARTS. I had the unit for about 6 months when the electronic spark ignition system stopped lighting the gas. Maytag honored their warranty and replaced the system, but I have a feeling that this will be a problem that re-occurs. I ended up buying the extended warranty, but I do not feel like I should have to do this. That is the reason for the low marks on quality. Evidently, these electronic spark ignitions break all the time, and are not nearly as reliable as the old glow bar type ignitions. Why they decided to use this unreliable system is beyond me.The design is good and it looks nice in the kitchen.

Back to Gas!

Comments about Maytag MGR8674AS Stainless Steel 30" Free Standing Gas Range:
We needed to replace our electric range and decided to go with gas - which we love to cook with. After checking out other brands, we found this Maytag that was just what we were looking for.It has been about two months since we put this in and couldn't be happier! The oven has plenty of room for anything and heats up rather quickly. The stove top with the continuous grate - a "uni-grate" - is wonderful. All of the oven controls are simple to use and the stove knobs are easy. We like that the orange colored display doesn't light up the entire kitchen like a Christmas light display. The only drawback this range has is this - when the oven is on the stove knobs get pretty hot. It's because of how the oven vents.Overall, we love our Maytag! We even got the matching microwave to go with it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We like and it works very well. Two things could use improvement. The stovetop grids are too far apart. Almost every time my wife cooks a meal, she has to lift a grid to clean under it, or stick a rag between the grids. The flames don't go low enough, so you have to really pay to what is cooking.
great performing range

I love to cook, and this range meets my demands . Breads ,casseroles, pizza, roasts and anything else has come out perfect. The only thing that I don't like is the heat from the oven, making my burner knobs quite hot,but I have a microwave with a fan that helps to relieve some of the heat on the knobs..otherwise this is a great range, for a serious cook.
Best Gas Range I've Owned

This convection gas range was easy to install and has performed like a champ since I fired it up for the first time. This is the first convection oven that I have had and I love it! It cooks evenly and efficiently. The power burner on top is a huge plus & the AquaClean system makes cleaning this bad boy a piece of cake :-)

I am very disappointed with the operation of the oven in my new Maytag range. I have owned the range for five weeks and have attempted in several ways to adjust to the deficiencies/differences the Maytag presents in comparison to the Magic Chef range I previously owned. The Magic Chef lasted 30 years and I am known locally as the producer of delicious sugar cookies and many kinds of pies. The problems I have with the Maytag are as follows:1. The default oven baking starting temperature of 350 degrees, when indicated by the digital controls and notifying tone, have an actual temperature in the oven of 75 to 100 degrees less. Therefore, the product cannot be placed into the oven when this tone sounds. Instead, I am advised to wait more minutes for the oven temperature to reach 350 degrees. How am I to know when that takes place, other than to put in a dial type thermometer, which the instruction manual advises against.2. The oven has not been able to produce an adequate bottom crust or to adequately brown the bottom of the sugar cookies. This has not been a problem with our previous range. As a result of the conditions existent in this oven, I will definitely have to change bakeware, baking times, ingredients...essentially every aspect of what I have learned over the years...and may still not be able to produce as high quality products as I have in the past. As I am 70 years old, I feel that I have had my favorite activity taken from me.THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS OVEN TO ANY FRIEND.The range cooktop appears to operate correctly, though heating food on the cooktop in no way approaches the complexity of baking. We have had a technician come to our house to attempt to resolve our problems. As nice as he was, he had to admit that the ranges of this era are nothing like the old ranges used to be. He receives many complaints from older people who have, like me, found that the products do not turn out as they have in the past. He claims, and it may be rightfully so, there is nothing wrong with this particular range. He has had many complaints and is aware of the fact that these new age ranges will not function as the old ones did. So, he left us with our range, stating we would be the ones who would have to make the adjustments. Bake times, ingredients, utensils, etc...it is up to us to adjust to the oven, as there is nothing, sadly to fix or to be fixed with this unit. This is a sorry thing to hear. It is sad that things have not improved over time.
Amazing range for the price!!

My wife and I just recently switched from electric to gas and opted for this model because of it's looks, value, and great reviews. We are both extremely happy with it, both for the range and the oven. Range combines great design with consistent functionality and the convection option for the range is fantastic!

This range has a commercial feel to it. Love the total top grid that allows for movement from one burner to another. The convection oven work great when making lots of cookies at on time. Love that you can program to just bake or convection bake. Some say the stainless steel knobs get to hot, but I have used the oven for over an hour one day and didn't have this problem. This range makes me feel like a master chef!!

I bought this three months ago- June 2015. The 5 burners on top are great and the grill covers the whole top which is great when I have big pots. I really like that it does both Convection and regular bake. The challenge I have is that it isn't calibrated to the right temperature. I had to bake things twice as long, until I discovered the actual temperature in the oven was 45 degrees less than the digital display said. Unfortunately you can only adjust the calibration 30 degrees either way on this stove. I called Sears and the person just read the manual to me, and wouldn't send someone to adjust it, even though I only had it a few months. I found that with the convection bake on it now gets to the right temperature, but regular bake is still 15 degrees off. If you really want the oven to be at the right temperature you really have to monitor the oven.. Oh and the manual says not to use a thermometer, how are you suppose to figure out what temp it is really cooking at? It cooks well, but requires a lot of attention.
A Huge Disappointment
By Smelling Melted Maytag Metal
from Austin, TX
Everytime I use the oven there is a disturbing melted metal smell that fills my home. Not very appetizing! The Maytag guy came to check it out and shrugged. Also, the bottom compartment doesn't close right. The Maytag guy's response to that? Another shrug. Should you buy Maytag appliances? I'll just shrug.
