This range has performed fairly well for the last 8 months. The burners are pretty hot, it is hard to do anything on a low simmer. I have to put the pans on the smallest burner on the lowest setting to avoid burning or over cooking for meals that require a long slow simmer. I love the large metal grates vs. the usual individual burner grates. The oven heats up well and cooks pretty evenly, no complaints about cooking performance, WHEN IT STARTS. I had the unit for about 6 months when the electronic spark ignition system stopped lighting the gas. Maytag honored their warranty and replaced the system, but I have a feeling that this will be a problem that re-occurs. I ended up buying the extended warranty, but I do not feel like I should have to do this. That is the reason for the low marks on quality. Evidently, these electronic spark ignitions break all the time, and are not nearly as reliable as the old glow bar type ignitions. Why they decided to use this unreliable system is beyond me. The design is good and it looks nice in the kitchen.

Great gas range!

Comments about Maytag MGR8674AS Stainless Steel 30" Free Standing Gas Range:
I researched several ranges before I decided to purchase this range. I could not be more pleased! The power boil feature is one of my favorites with this range. I am very pleased with it's appearance also. Everyone that walks in my kitchen comments on what a beauty she is! I do try to keep the oven clean after reading negative reviews on the steam cleaning feature, but I have no complaints with the cleaning. It is quick and odor free. I rate this stove 10/10 and would buy it again in a heartbeat!

The range great
from Osceola, IN
It has everything that I was looking for. Having the broiler in the oven like an electric range is very nice instead of at the bottom as in the older model gas ranges. The 5 burners in various sizes to fit the pans is nice too.
Love the capacity!
from Bloomington, MN
This oven is huge! I can cook a whole meal at once inside the oven which saves me so much time. I love making things simple and this oven helps to accomplish that. It's beautiful stainless steel design and easy to use control panel makes this oven a beautiful edition to my kitchen. Love my Maytag!
This 0ven has all the features needed for a cooking family
from North Carolina
The Maytag unit we chose after much consideration filled our every need. The unit is sturdy enough and weighted perfectly so we do not get a rattling noise when it is being used. Door opens smoothly and so quietly as well as the surface features.
Speed heat is awesome
This range can boil water faster than any other gas range I have ever had. When cooking food you need to be careful to use a lower heat level. This really cooks! You have to become accustomed to the size and placement of the burners. Though the footprint looks larger than a standard range, the burners actually seem closer together. Strategic pan placement is a necessity. The oven is huge and cooks evenly.
I love everything about this range.
from Greenwood, AR
What initially caught my eye was the continuous grates and the fifth burner, and both are as great as I thought they would be. My Maytag gas stove top heats water faster than the old electric range I replaced and I love the fact that when I turn the burner off, the heat is gone. The oven is spacious and also heats faster than the old electric range and cooks evenly. Although I did spend more than I planned on this range, I do not regret the purchase and believe it is worth the money.
Sharp looking and performs well
from Philpot, KY
The most exciting part of this range is how you can see every square inch of the oven when the light is on, taking the guesswork out of baking and broiling. The front two higher-powered burners are so quick, we've had to adjust our cooking style (we switched from an electric unit). The back two have proven well-suited for simmering and slow-cooking; we haven't tried to melt chocolate yet (the ultimate test in my mind), but I think this range would be up to the test. The burner grills remove for easy clean-up, and the display is intuitive and looks sharp. We also got the matching microwave, which has a built-in vent fan. The pair looks and works well together.
Great addition to kitchen
I haven't had the chance to try out all the features, but this gas range has much better control than our old electric range. The fifth burner comes in handy.
Missing some modern features
from Lima, OH
Having replaced our Thermador with the Maytag, it is taking a bit to get used to. A major oversight on our part, was the lack of the Convection feature. My hobby is baking...I bake something nearly every day. It seems that everything I have baked is either overcooked or undercooked. I can't seem to figure out the happy medium. For example, my cakes are burning around the edges, but still soupy in the middle. Hmmmmmm.
Nice range but some cheap features
from Chicago, il
Knobs are cheap plastic and crack very easy with bump of pan or pot. I am not happy they are so cheap.
