I have had this product for less than a year and already it has been replaced completely under the warranty. The second one still 'sticks' when in elevation mode and doesn't come up all the way - this will probably have to be replaced too. It's noisy when the extractor fans are turned on and it doesn't remove cooking odors, steam, fumes etc. which is the whole point of having it - our venting system is excellent - there are no blockages - so why doesn't the downdraft suck away fumes etc? I would NOT recommend this product to anyone - along with my new Kitchenaid 48" built-in, side-by-side refrigerator - the ice maker has been replaced once already and now the new one has ceased to work - we're waiting for a new 'shoot' - meanwhile - no ice also less than a year old!

Comments about KitchenAid Stainless Steel Downdraft System:
You must always push the button twice to make the unit rise and sometimes three times to make it retract. Not sure why this is. Also the fan is very noisy and doesn't move enough air if you are cooking on the "burners" that are not right beneath the exhaust.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I just remodeled my kitchen 18 months ago and purchased ALL kitchenAid applicances stainless Steel. The fridge is rusting and seal is breaking ($2500 purchase) which KitchenAid refuses to do anything about. The downdraft is rusting which is causing it to get stuck and not automatically raise and lower. It started rusting within 9 months of use. This brand is junk and over priced. KitchenAid does not support their products. I will never recommend or purchase this brand.

Love that the vents go into the dishwasher. Just wish the unit would go down while the vents are being washed.

We just put this in our new house and it is great. I love that you can just push a button to hide it.

Don't run it that much when cooking. Wish it wasn't so loud. Have to turn the TV way up to hear it over the down draft.
36" Retractable Downdraft System, 600 CFM
Absolutely great-I could not be more pleased! I love the height because if I am using a tall stockpot the vent is still higher than the pot and vents wonderfully! The majority of my appliances are KitchenAid and I have been very pleased with them all!

Came severely damaged, even had trash inside the unit. Had to call and knock heads at PacSales to get it replaced. Appeared to be damaged and used. The continuing nightmare with all "new" Kitchenaid appliances bought from Pacific Sales. The second one appears to be ok, holding my breath. Seems tinny and cheaply made. Very Noisy. If I didn't have to have this type of blower, I'd not do this again. Or I would have gotten the Thermador that I had originally.
