Panasonic continues to amaze me! I bought my first Panasonic Blu-ray player back in 2009 and have been hooked ever since. With each Panasonic Blu-ray player I have purchased, the features and ease of use have increased; the BDT230 is no exception. Outstanding picture and sound from a Blu-ray player at this price point is very difficult to beat. The player loads up Blu-ray discs quite fast, and the menu is easy to navigate whether you want to change settings, play a movie, or experience the VIERA Connect applications (Netflix, YouTube, etc). Even though I use a wired connection to my Blu-ray player, I was happy to see there is built-in wireless connectivity in the BDT230. Other players at this price point require you to buy a separate wireless dongle to connect wirelessly so having it built into the player is a huge benefit to those that are unable to connect through a wired connection. The look of the BDT230 is very sleek and smaller than the previous Panasonic Blu-ray players I have owned. The eject, stop, play, and power buttons are recessed on the top right corner of the Blu-ray player. I like this design feature because it not only adds to the sleek look of the Blu-ray player, but it also allows me to easily find the buttons with my finger since my "Man Cave" is dark. I have not experienced any freezing issues with the player or while viewing movies, and the firmware updates are easy to complete. Thank you to Panasonic for including a physical manual with the player! I would not hesitate to recommend the BDT230 to anyone, and in fact, I have already purchased another one for my living room.

Panasonic go to great lengths to tell you about the specifications of this DVD player except for the fact that they have sponsored ads they promote written right into the DVD's menu! Tyson Chicken, tire ads, etc. etc. To add insult to injury, the online support says there's no way to turn them off! A great, basic player but after paying for a product I don't need my DVD player to tell me I ought to purchase my jewelry at Zales!

Comments about Panasonic Black 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

After a few hours of trouble-shooting a internet connection that was working perfectly before I moved the bluray player to the other side of my entertainment center, I started looking over some reviews online. Turns out being an extra 3 feet further away from my router caused internet to only work sporadically (about 5% of the time). Moving the player back fixed the problem but the router was only 7 feet away at most. The connection to the router showed full bars in the network setup menu, which makes no sense either. Finally, panasonic seems to be simply refusing to create an app to control sytems running 2013 via ipad/andriod. Yes, miracast works, kinda, but previous systems running 2011 and 2012 had dedicated apps for ios and andriod. Not the most confidence inspiring action on panasonic's behalf. Other than that its a solid bluray player with good video playback. Performs basic funtions expected of a bluray player quite well, We'll just have to see how long it lasts...

Comments about Panasonic Black 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

To me, the primary function of this device is to play Blu-ray disks, DVDs, and CDs as a component in a home theater. It does that job very well. The picture quality is very good. It contains a small status display on the front panel. There are four buttons on the top of the unit that operate it without a remote. Also, it works well with my programmable remote control. I also liked the helpful descriptions that are displayed on the setup screens. I experienced one small problem during setup: the firmware update failed and caused the unit to lock up, requiring me to unplug it. However, moving the device to an area having a stronger Wi-Fi signal corrected the problem.

Comments about Panasonic Black 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

After months of good to fair operation the player will not play newest BD's without video cut outs. I must blame this on latest firmware update. It has to do with the HDMI color option.

Two Players, Dead WiFi in an Average of 2 Months

Comments about Panasonic Black 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

First player's WiFi died in less than one month, so I was able to exchange. Second's WiFi died after the 90 day warranty, meaning I now have to pay for labor (which is the price of a new player altogether). No thanks... the miracasting from Android worked well, but without WiFi anymore, I can't use it. Can only access online content via wired access. Web apps are slow. Web browser cannot display much online content, only text and certain pictures. Some apps have a pairing option, but if you are using the remote to text, it can be quite painful and slow. I gave up after a while. Player occasionally freezes at transitions from homescreen to: disc play, or internet access, or Netflix startup... the only solution at freeze is to unplug, which can't be good for the player. Latest firmware applied back in Nov 2013, but no update since then to fix my wifi/freezing problems.

Comments about Panasonic Black 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

I purchased this blue ray player to connect to Netflix via a wireless internet connection. The wireless setup is useless with AT&T's 2WIRE. It simply does not work. At all. WEP-PSK AEP or TKIP Do not purchase this device if you own a 2WIRE Modem. Have moved this to the spare bedroom. Works great as a basic dvd player. Internet features are of course useless without a connection.

Comments about Panasonic Black 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

I purchased this player for the internet features. You cannot hook up a keyboard or an Android device to the device. Spend less money and get a basic player and another internet device. The menus are confusing when trying to figure out how to do any advanced features. I have a good amount of experience with connecting advanced devices and could not get it to work. I can connect to the internet but having to use the arrow keys for a keyboard is VERY frustrating. The menus are slow as well. Panasonic has an Android app, but this player will not work with it.

Comments about Panasonic Black 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:

My BR player began freezing up around 90-days in service when watching a disk, streaming, on start up, or shut down. When it freezes, it won't respond to the remote or manual buttons. To get it working I had to unplug it. Unplugging it worked for a few weeks and now it won't even turn on. Since I am beyond the 90-day labor warranty, I was quoted a repair price that is more than what a new one costs. This makes the 2-year parts warranty of little value if you are beyond the 90-day labor warranty.

I do not like how the remote cannot be reprogrammed to control my none Panasonic TV. This is unacceptable for me. In addition, I do not like the adds that come in the form of banners and in some menus as video with sound. I am returning this unit mainly because of the adds.

I finally hooked up my Blu-ray DMP-BDT320. It was extremely difficult because of the remote control. Maybe younger people who are used to video games have no trouble with this type of remote, but for those over 50, I think it may be more difficult. I am actually browsing for a universal remote I can connect to replace this one.
