Product Details

Panasonic Lumix 12.1 Megapixel Orange Digital Camera, Model DMCTS4D

Key Features:

  • 40ft Waterproof, 6.6ft Shockproof, 14°F Freezeproof, Dustproof
  • Full HD Video Recording in AVCHD/MP4 Format
  • GPS Function with Altimeter, Barometer, and Compass

Features:

  • LEICA DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology
The DMC-TS4 features a high-quality LEICA DC lens* with 4.6x optical zoom from 28mm wide-angle (35mm camera equivalent: 28-128mm). The folded optics of shaft guide method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. This lens unit comprises 10 elements and a prism unit in 8 groups, including an ED lens and 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces passing the Leica's stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance to the edges.
  • 28mm Wide-Angle Lens
The 28mm wide-angle lens* lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.
  • 9.3x Intelligent Zoom
The Intelligent Zoom is an extensive zoom function using digital zoom, however, you can even draw the subject 2x closer than the original optical zoom with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology. This means the 4.6x optical can virtually extend to 9.3x equivalent.
  • POWER O.I.S.
The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) suppresses the low-frequency vibration hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed. Active mode is effective for video recording.
  • 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD
The 12.1-megapixel CCD with 2-channel signal output structure boasts higher signal transfer speed for the operations that require high performance and speed such as full HD video recording and high speed continuous shooting. The image quality is also improved thanks to the higher sensitivity which is made possible by highly efficient light condensation adoption larger on-chip micro lenses.
  • Venus Engine
The DMC-TS4's Venus Engine processes large amount of full HD data at high-speed. At the same time, the multi-task image-processing engine, the Venus Engine realizes a super-fast response time.
  • Intelligent Noise Reduction System
The excellent S/N ratio of the CCD sensor and the Intelligent Noise Reduction system in the Venus Engine make both photos and videos shot at any sensitivity from low to high and boast outstanding clearness.
  • 1920 x 1080 Full HD Video in AVCHD Format / MP4 Format
The DMC-TS4 is an advanced photographic tool for recording not only great photos but also beautiful full HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos in AVCHD (MPEG-4 / H.264) format*1 / MP4 format. The AVCHD format excels in the compatibility with AV equipment like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc™ players. The MP4 format has higher compatibility with computers.
  • High-quality Sound
The videos come with the high-quality sound of Dolby® Digital Creator, to offer highly realistic sound to the motion images.
  • Wind Cut
The Wind Cut function is available to block out most of the noise from background wind. This gives you higher quality sound when taking images on breezy days.
  • POWER O.I.S. with Active Mode
For more effective countermeasure against blur, the Active Mode is equipped with the DMC-TS4 for an option of image stabilization in video recording. This mode is especially effective in active video recording such as shooting while walking.
  • LED Light
The DMC-TS4 features an LED light that records beautiful videos even in dusky underwater environments or at a nighttime camp. A convenient auto function also automatically turns on the LED when the ambient light becomes dim.
  • 4.6x Optical Zoom in Video Recording
The DMC-TS4 lets you use a 4.6x zoom for videos. It takes you right up close to images like animals and sports scenes.
  • Time Lapse Shot
Once the start time, the interval and the number of picture to shoot are set, the camera automatically records images. You can leave the camera and get a record of stationary observation for subjects such as flowers coming into bloom, scudding cloud, or wild animals in nature.
  • Panorama Shot
The Panorama Shot Mode makes it is possible to shoot a 360-degree horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous picture.
  • Fun Functions – PlaybackAuto Retouch
The Auto Retouch function adjusts contrast and brightness to give different impression to the photo with just a press of a button. Appropriate retouch is automatically applied depending on the image – if the image was shot too dark, it can be clear and bright to look it nicer with this function.
  • Handheld Night Shot Mode
The Handheld Night Shot Mode generates a beautiful night scenery with illumination by multi-layering the images shot consecutively. Bright, glamorous night scenery can be recorded without using a tripod.
  • 3D Photo Mode
The 3D Photo Mode* produces a 3D image in the camera. The image-processing method used by LUMIX records beautiful images with less distortion or visible image links.
  • Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF and a quick start-up time give the DMC-TS4 super high speed response that helps to catch even the most fleeting photo opportunities.
  • AF Tracking
Once you focus on your subject, the AF Tracking automatically tracks it until you press the shutter. When you're taking images of an active subject, like children or pets, this function eliminates the need to press the shutter button halfway down repeatedly to readjust the focus.
  • 3.7 fps in 12.1-megapixel Full-resolution
The DMC-TS4 lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 3.7 frames per second in full resolution*1. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like the best and delete the rest. You can also select High-speed Burst Mode or Flash Burst Mode.
  • iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode
In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots and capture moments in both photo and video recording. The Intelligent Resolution technology and 9.3x Intelligent Zoom are always activated in the iA Mode.
  • Shake Detection - POWER O.I.S.
Gyrosensors detect hand-shaking and the O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, helping prevent blurring caused by hand-shaking.
  • Manual Exposure
The DMC-TS4 provides easy-to-use manual controls. You can set the aperture to control the depth of field, and adjust the shutter speed to freeze moving subjects or create a motion blur that exaggerates the feeling of movement.
  • 2.7-inch LCD with AR Coating
The DMC-TS4's 2.7-inch LCD features 230K-dot Intelligent LCD with wide-viewing angle. It automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. In addition, the AR (anti-reflective) coating LCD minimizes glare and provides clear images, for high visibility even in outdoor brightness.

So far I have used the DMCTS4 in salt water in Dominican Republic and in the heavily clornated pool. I carefully followed the tedious instruction on cleaning the gasket and rinching in clean water after each use and eveything worked fin. Photo taken in auto mode and SCN mode were sharp and color perfect. Vidieos are high quality, both in water and out of water. The Time Laps feature is a fun option I used for sunsets and beginninig of a storm. Night shooting mode is super even when hand held. Battery life is limited using GPS but can be disabled. I bought two 1500ma batteries to extend battery life.

We bought this camera to go on our first family trip to the Virgin Islands. We chose this camera as I was already familar with Lumix line and by the write up we found in consumer reports. I was careful to read the instructions, as I had read reviews where people had problems and thier warrenty was void because they did something wrong. I was EXTREMLY careful to follow instructions. My husband took my two boys snorkling for the first time and was excited to capture it on the camera. He was taking pictures when all of a sudden it stopped working. He thought the battery had run out. When he came back, I was careful to soak in fresh water as directed dried completly and opened up the camera to try and change the battery (we had bought another). That was when I discovered there was water inside the camera!!!! Needless to say we were without a camera for the remainder of the trip. Now we only have our memories.....no pictures!!!! I am done with Lumix, my other Lumix had broke as well.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix 12.1 Megapixel Blue Digital Camera:

I bought the camera for my snorkeling holidays but at the first snorkeling trip and after 20 pictures the camera stopped working. Water was in the camera. I handeld the camera with care, I read the manual carefully and I didn't anything wrong. Panasonic refuses guarantee service because they says I did something wrong with the camera. That is not true - the camera is just not OK and I want my money back.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix 12.1 Megapixel Blue Digital Camera:

The good is the camera takes very good to excellent pictures. The bad is charging via USB is not an option. The ugly is the price and the supporting software. Picture options are well represented. Some decent SLR's do not have as many settings or options for precision or situation shooting. The bad is the lack of a second battery. One would think for the cost of the unit and the inability to charge via USB a second battery would be provided. The Supporting software should not have been mentioned honestly. It is subpar to the quality of the camera and takes away from the experience. I have not had any issues arise to need customer support so I cannot comment on that aspect.

I followed the instructions as well. After using it 4 times snorkeling...the screen started to flicker in and out. It's a cool camera with nice features...I just don't think it's made to handle the claimed specs. The screen has come back and I'll give it another try. Hopefully it doesn't leak again.

Purchased this camera for an upcoming Elk hunt.
After review of some pictures at home i was surprised to learn that the images were grainy.
I own other Panasonic compact cameras that are great. What good is a waterproof, shockproof camera with bad images? I returned this camera and purchased the regular compact Lumix 20X Zoom and pictures are great.

Bought it for a trip to Hawaii, went snorkeling and got great shots. Took some vieos that look good. GPS function was great. No complaints.

We use this camera mounted to our paddles and snap photos whilst running class III ~ V whitewater. The camera spends the entire time wet.

I bought this camera last June 2012 thinking that I can use it underwater in preparation of me and my husbands trip. Last saturday tried using it underwater and to my dismay water leakage occurred. I wonder how it happened when I was very sure that I did all the check all that there is to check before using it underwater. In fact I studied the manual very well. Now my camera is at the service center and I dont know if it can be fix. And I lost the opportunity to capture our underwater experience.

I have owned the TS2 and the TS3. They both had great features like HDR mode and high speed burst mode. The TS4 does NOT have these modes. This is very disappointing. The GPS works much faster and the images quality is still very good. I am sad to say that not having the HDR and High Speed burst modes, I may return this camera and get the older TS3. Panasonic, PLEASE fix this with a simple firmware update.
