READ THIS IF YOU THINK YOU WANT A FRIDGE IN YOUR GARAGEExpensive Lesson to Learn (and that no one really tells you): Modern Kitchen refrigerators are NOT designed to go in garages that are not temperature controlled. If you do put one in your garage, they will die within a few weeks, and if still under warranty, the warranty will be null and void.We found this out the hard way. We had a fairly new (7 year old refrigerator) that needed extensive repairs to the ice maker and the water line. We decided to buy a new refrigerator instead, and move the old one in the kitchen out to the garage as a basic overflow refrigerator. Now we all know a favorite Grandpa who has that trusty fridge they've kept out in the garage for the past 40 years, and it's still working just fine. That's because those old refrigerators used freon and were required to be well insulated, so being in the garage didn't phase them. However the industry stopped using freon technology over the past 20 years, and if you want a refrigerator in your garage now, you either have to find one of the old freon ones still working, or with go with this model, which is specially designed to work in your typical unheated garage. You will find most refrigerator manufacturers don't even bother making a garage model, but thank goodness Frigidaire does.As a refrigerator we are very happy with it. You have to get used to the rugged dockplate industrial look of it - it won't win any beauty awards, but it's not exactly bad looking either. The refrigerator portion works very well, is very spacious, and keeps things nicely cold even in hot August garage days with temps in the 100's. The finish is durable and cleans easily with a few wipes, and the lack of protruding door handles is nice because there is nothing to break or snap off, the hand grips to pull the doors open are recessed on the side. The only downside is the freezer needs to be colder and have it's own control. Ice cream is a little too soft.

We purchased in Nov 2012. Abt delivered, great service. Drinks and other items never seemed that cold. Called Abt back in Jan 13, service guy came out and said fridge working fine. Bought fridge thermometer and found temp was 40-48 consistently. Called Abt back in Feb 13 and they delivered a replacement promptly. Now does get to be 34-38 in fridge but will jump to 42-44 perhaps as cold weather outside triggers fridge to heat. For $1,000 you'd expect something better. Would not recommend but there doesn't seem to be any other garage fridge option for cold climates. We love Abt just not this appliance.

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Gladiator Chillerator Silver Tread Garage Top Freezer Refrigerator:
My experience to this point has been very positive. The fridge is deceivingly large inside with plenty of room for Christmas goodies.

Great garage fridge

There aren't many refrigerators that will work in an unheated garage, and this one really works well. And, the shelves give lots of options for storing different food containers.

Figure out the answers to two questions before delivery day: A) Which way do you want the doors to open? and B) Do you want the casters attached or not? The casters option is a semi-permanent decision. These are not pop-in casters like what you may have on a chair in your living room, but heavy duty steel casters that require some assembly and have to be attached to a steel frame which fits underneath the refrigerator. We opted for the casters, and the ABT delivery/install guys labored mightily sitting in our driveway for the better part of an hour unpacking, bolting and assembling them in 100 degree heat (great guys by the way - give them a raise).

Would have given it 5 stars, but frame on retractable shelf broke same day it was delivered. Luckily, we do not have to use retractable shelf, but construction of frame is really too flimsy.
Delivery was as scheduled and set up done satisfactorily.
