My old washer completely pulled a fast one on me last week. The water just started running out onto the floor and pooling. It was just too far gone to be fixed. My dear hubby showed up with this one in the bed of his truck. Assuming it was just a plain old washer, I wasn't too excited .. I asked for one without an agitator and one that I did not have to bend over to unload. I am tired of my undershirts with adjustable straps getting caught under the agitator and twisting up and ruining . Anyway, I went out to look and this bad boy was in the back of his truck and I was in shock. It is so fabulous. You do not have to set the water level because it swirls the clothes around and calls it "sensing". Then it does the water and spray. The clear lid has had me mesemerized for days... I am stuck staring at this futuristic machine . At first I was a bit intimidated, like omg I cannot operate this thing, but it is easy. It also plays a song when it is done. My dryer was purchased last year and is regular size. The salesman told my dh that it wouldn't matter because this will spin them until almost dry anyway... He was right! Dry times already shorter. My only peeve is that it takes longer to wash a load than my old one did and even the short run is 38 min. But, hey at least my clothes are actually clean now.. not just beat up by the agitator. Love it. Love the 10 yr warranty.. I wanted a new Louis bag for Mothers Day but it could never have brought me the happiness that this mother did!! Run to buy one!!

I was taken in by all the hype, positive reviews, and salesman's pitch. The "Wave Force" action sounds fantastic, and the machine is a marvel to look at with its excellently crafted finish and flashy lights on the console, but when it comes to old fashioned performance it is a complete loser. The machine is designed to use little or no hot water. According to the technical information that I unfortunately found only after I had purchased the machine, the manufacturer says that "warm" is 90 degrees or so. I was brought up to believe that warm meant somewhat greater that body temperature, like 105 to 115 degree water one uses to activate yeast, not 10 degrees below body temperature. You can try to get around this by starting out on the sanitary cycle, but then the water saving feature defeats your efforts. It normally will not put enough water in to get the cloths completely wet. If you use the water plus feature to add water after the initial fill, it will use only cold water, so if you fill the tub to a decent level it will be cold. If you are a quilter and like to soak fabric in the washer to dissolve water soluble stabilizer or dissolvable thread, you cannot do it in this washer unless you unplug it after filling the tub because after 8 minutes of inactivity the machine insists on draining the tub. I have no idea what this "feature" is for but it is infuriating. I have yet to see any Wave Force cascading water action, even though I watched a complete wash cycle. The machine will occasionally stop the agitator action and start slowly spinning the tub, but no water ever cascades over the top to be forced through the clothes by centrifugal force as the advertisement would have you believe. I have not been able to wash a load of towels without having to be there to redistribute the clothes when it goes off balance, which us usually several times in the cycle. Finally ther is the "smell" that develops in the washer after a few weeks of use, like it is growing its own culture of bacteria or mold. I would gladly pay to have this machine hauled away if I could have my old machine back. My recommendation is to buy a non-HE washer while there are still some left and keep it in good condition.

Worse washer I have ever owned!!
By frustrated with washer
Comments about LG WT5101HW White Top Load Washer:
Owned for about 4 yrs now. After about 1 1/2 - 2 yrs washer started taking 3 hrs to complete the wash cycle. Should have only taken 45 min./The washer kept on trying to re-balance itself which means filling up with more water. I thought this was a high efficiency washer! I kept on rebalancing the load myself to try and prevent this. Still took 3 hrs. Now stops filling up with water and the lines are not clogged. Now looking into it after being so frustrated find it is discountiued! Wonder why??? What about the people who paid a premium price for an item that should last longer than 2 yrs!! Will not buy and LG washer again!

Discontinued for a reason!!!

I have owned this for just over five years. After about two years I began noticing very fine debris in my laundry and in the tub. This happened to be the top of the washer deteriorating (rusting) and the coating flaking into the wash along with the rust. This should never have happened since I don't use a bleaching product in my wash!
died a slow painful death at 2.5 yrs

We bought the LG set of washer and dryer because highly rated through CR. Read manual, used right soap. Did great for about a year and half to 2 years when started with the unbalanced load issue that seems to have plagued many LG/high efficency washers by reviews. Made sure balanced and tried everything from smaller loads, manually readjusting load, varying speeds for spin cycle, etc. Eventually, it got bad enough that it took several days to wash one load if left unchecked. Mercifully, it died completely when the tub broke loose and the machine tried to walk out of the room. I have never purchased LG before and likely will not go back. On the brighter side, the drier (gas) has worked well. Not sure why the website will not let me post without agreeing to sweepstakes entry.
Great washing; check for off balance every 15 min
from Indiana, United States
I absolutely LOVE how clean my clothes get. My one BIG complaint is that, no matter what you wash, you have to check every 15 minutes because it's probably off balance. There is no real warning to you (e.g. sound) that it's off balance, it'll just start trying to re balance itself (which can take an hour or two if you're not watching; once it goes through the hour or two of trying to re balance itself, there is a warning sound). What a waste of water! And time! Any patience! Also, you absolutely cannot wash a medium to large sized load. Small to medium is fine, but anything larger will guarantee multiple off-balance issues. No more than 5 large towels (not extra large, just the basic large bath towel). 4 or possibly 5 pair of jeans is the maximum. No more than one blanket at a time (small blankets you can get away with two). Be sure to follow the instructions on the load type. You MUST be sure that all clothes in a particular load are the same size/weight. Never mix types (no towels with shirts, etc.). Your products will come out squeaky clean - no complaints about the quality of the washing. Just a major issue with your load getting off balance.

This machine has given us nothing but trouble it goes off balance every load and has to be emptied and teloaded it sometimes take 10 tries to complete the cycle can you imagine this frustration dont buy this piece of garbage
Mostly get clothes clean
By Lizzie 50

The washer mostly gets clothes clean as long as I use the High soil setting and extra water - kind of defeats the whole "energy efficient" idea. There's a water temperature setting for "Cold" and "Tap Cold" with no explanation in any of they guides or manuals as to when to use one vs the other.
I loved this washer at ...

I loved this washer at first, had issues with machine going off balance, called for service through ABC warehouse warrenty that I paid extra for, had to have electric board replaced and was told it had a recall on it but I had never received a notice of the recall even though I registered it, I also asked if they could do something about the bleach cup that has rusted around the area, they said no, it is getting worse and rust like residue has gotten into the wash, its 4. years old and this problem started 2 years ago and getting worse, LG should backup their product and ABC warehouse should come through on their extra protection that was paid for
Definitely not made to last

Bought my washer in 2012. The first thing to make an impression on me was that before the washer even starts adding water, the drum turns--supposedly to distribute the load. What it did was put my clothes into a tight ball, so I had to bypass this by waiting until the water turned on before I Put them in. As mentioned in other reviews, the water level (unless you use the feature to add more, right from the start) isn't sufficient to wash clothes. My problem, too, is pet hair, so that extremely low water level only spread it amongst all clothes but didn't remove it. On the rare occasion when I had dirty, gritty clothes--after the 'wash' when removing the clothes, the dirt was still there, albeit usually on the bottom of the drum which required me to clean it out before the next load. I will say that I like the speed with which it spins to drain. What I didn't like was that exactly one month after the warranty expired, it started leaking from the bottom that required New parts. About eight months later it just suddenly stopped draining water. I was grateful this was not a front loader as it took a full week for a repairman to come. It needed more new parts. And so here I am--the washer is leaking water from the bottom again and I am certain the mother board is going because it is filling the washer to maximum height even with a small load. I've already spent enough on repairs and service calls to almost equal what I paid, so I'm cutting my losses. Whichever new washer I choose will definitely NOT be an LG. What I would give to have my old (non-motherboard!) washer back!
By Wrong washer for me
I bought this a few weeks ago. Was told how efficient it was. It does not clean my clothes, takes 1 hour to not clean them and also I have to have a pair of long tongs to reach the socks in the bottom of the washer that must have been designed by a 6'4" man that never tried to get clothes from the washer....so disappointed
