WOW! I really didn't think the machine would live up to what I needed. I have four little dogs who shed everywhere and some fabrics seem to hold the dog hair like it was glued on! I thought the only thing that would work would be a MOTORIZED hand held attachment. WRONG! This machine has enough suction to remove even the most deeply embedded dog hair! I love how easy the machine is to move around and it gets into really tight spaces and under furniture. Dyson - one small request - I'd love to have a really long extension pole to help get cobwebs out of the corners in a room with vaulted ceilings! Can you work on that please??? I am amazed that such a small machine has so much power!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I bought the DC-39 because it was "designed" for pet owners, it's light weight and it can vacuum under couches and beds. When I purchased the product almost a year ago, I lived in a one bedroom condo with a boston terrier and a grey tabby cat. Most of the condo was carpeted so the vacuum seem to do a good job. Now, almost a year later, I live in a two bedroom one bath house, and still have the dog and cat. It seems that almost a year later, the vacuum has lost about a third of it's suction power. The DC-39 does not do well on tile or hardwood floors. It's the first vacuum I've owned in 20 years that has trouble picking up pieces of cat litter on hard wood and carpet. The hose is too short. In order to vacuum in places like a bathroom, hall closet or even behind a door, you have to bring the canister into the area you are vacuuming. This works better if you actually pick it up. Unfortunately, because of the short length of hose, it is very cumbersome. In tight spaces you generally knock things over. I vacuum at least once a week and the simple maintenance is tedious. The carpet brush always needs to be detangled. The wand and hose need to be cleared of obstructions before every use. The canister is always emptied after every use and usually has to be emptied half way through a session. Regardless of how often you empty the canister and clean the filter every month, the cylcone chamber never gets clean. I could have purchased 3 vacuums from a different brand, had less hassle and spent less money. Like I stated at the beginning: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

the canister makes a mess when being emptied

      By Kymbali

      from Undisclosed

The design of the canister makes it very easy to make a mess, it doesn't open completely and dirt gets caught up on the top then it falls all over making a mess. Also, the rotater tends to stop quite often and the release doesn't always allow it to start rotting again. I have to take off the whole head and put it back on. Overall like the machine but these issue make it not "love"

      Best vaccuum

      By Junee

      from Undisclosed

We got our Animal Dyson canister vac about a year ago. We went ahead and got the Hepa version. I was worried I wouldn't be able to clean the filter, but there is an additional small filter that is for the user to empty. Whenever we use this vaccuum there is a noticeable clearing of the dust in the air, it's amazing. Highly recommended for allergic people. The suction on this thing I don't quite understand. It doesn't seem like it's very powerful, compared to our big shop vac, which I used to use. I guess this is where DESIGN makes a big difference, as it is able to perform better than the biggest baddest motor. I always tried to get the cat hair off of my silk dupioni drapes, I tried everything, every vaccuum and pet hair removal device there is and was resigned to felted cat hair in my drapes. I tried the new Dyson on it and it took it all right off! I was startled at that. Next I vaccuumed our oriental rug, which I always had to use a wire cat hair brush to get the fur off, because even the shop vac couldn't get it out. I was amazed that the Dyson was able to get the cat fur off of that rug with no problem! I like vacuuming now, this thing is super efficient and it cleans the air too. I just want to support their research and care in making this product. Worth the money we spent.

      Really nice vacuum

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

This is the best vacuum I've owned by far. It is very convenient to have a single vacuum that cleans: wood, tile, and carpet so well. The attachments are varied for specific applications, which can get expensive when you have multiple floor types. I purchased a flat floor tool for the wood floors, because the reviews for the wood floor tool reviews made me a little worried that it would not work as well as I wanted. However, the flat floor tool does not pick up that fine layer of dust under the bed, which I see so well coming up the stairs. It does a great job on the woo floors for picking up the loose dirt. The included revolving brush tool is great for everything but the wood and the wool carpet on the stairs. I'm afraid that the brushes might scratch the wood and the carpet manufacturer warned against brushes, because it removes the wool fibers. You can stop the brushes from turning, but it reduces the suction to much. It would be great if the revolving brush had an adjustment to set the brush height or stop them by another means. A lot of reviewers say that it is a mess to empty, but you don't have to purchase bags and you aren't contributing them to a landfill. All you have to do is take off the canister portion and empty it over the trash can outside, easy enough. The self-winding cord is really nice and the HEPA filtration is wonderful! Overall it's a great light-weight canister vacuum! We've had it for three months now and I enjoy using it more than any other vacuum I've ever had.

      Very disappointing

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

This is probably one of the most disappointing purchases I've ever made. We tested several vacuums in a few stores and were impressed with some others - but we liked the design of the Dyson and got taken in by the claims that the suction was "amazing" and not needing bags or filters. We have 2 cats so the Animal was recommended - the price, though high, was cheaper than another brand that was also recommended. We ordered one from an online retailer and were thrilled when we got it. Due to some travel, we didn't use it for about a month after we got it (too late to return). The suction is not impressive - yes, it's strong when you hold the open wand to your hand but it doesn't pick anything up that's more than an inch away - even the lightest of fur tumbleweeds. I spent a good amount of time chasing dirt. Even with the cats, our house is not super dirty - but it took three canister empties to finish vacuuming 6 rooms. The canister limit is insanely low - That giant canister you see? Well, it can only take up to an inch of dirt before it starts backing up and you have to empty it. And emptying it is DISGUSTINGLY FILTHY. It's astonishing how much dirt gets EVERYWHERE when you have to fight to empty the canister. We have to walk outside to our garbage to do it. It's terrible. I really wish we got the other vacuum with the bags. The pros are that it works well on one carpet in our living room, the agility of the ball helps get into some tight spots, and is light when taking upstairs - but the fun stops there. I'm so disappointed with this vacuum. And now that it can't be sent back, we're stuck with it.

      Love my Dyson

      By tajally

I love canister vacuums and now I love it more with my new Dyson canister. The power and ease of using this vacuum is amazing. I have 5 cats and the suction is amazing and gets all pet dander up as well. The tool attachment is great and quick to use for hard to reach areas. Best Christmas present ever

      Wee worth the price

      By jrams61255

This is our second Dyson; we have an upright that we were hauling up and down the stairs to sweep the second floor. We always had in mind that we would get a second vacuum for upstairs but we hadn't thought that it would be a canister. The advantage of the canister vacuum is that we can sweep under the beds, couch, chairs, etc. with ease. The vacuuming power is comparable to the upright but much more maneuverable. Prior to the Dysons, we had two Kirby sweepers; when we got the first Dyson, I immediately swept the floors. It hadn't been 24 hours since I had swept the floors with the Kirby sweepers. The amount of dirt I picked up with the Dyson sweeper was almost embarrassing. Needless to say, both of the Dyson sweepers we have are well worth the price we paid for them.

It has great suction and can get to places that the stand up version can not, i.e. under furniture and tight corners. The canister can be a bit awkward to maneuver when vaccuuming the stairs.

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

I like the quick mobility of the DC39 Animal, in the past I've had machines that I felt like I was dragging the canister along but the DC39 is lightweight and maneuvers well from hard floor services to carpeted areas. I am a bit disappointed that the canister doesn't have a larger capacity for the dirt, I am emptying it much more frequently than I use to with my older Dyson upright animal. The canister seems to be smaller. Overall, I am pleased with the product and find the attachments that were included are most helpful!

      My Dyson DC39 Animal canister

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

What can I say! I love it. Really gets the dirt out of the carpet. Love the stair accessory, works great to pick up dirt & debris from stairs. Plus I am able to vacuum the stairs myself. I had an upright before and it was impossible for me to balance the big vacuum on the stairs to vacuum them. Didn't do a good job either. The only thing I wish it had was an additional small flat accessory with harder bristles. We had to use it to vacuum areas in the lower cupboards, as we had some work done in the kitchen and there was heavy dust everywhere. The small small bristle brush, worked, but it was bending the bristles.
