This unit was purchased to replace a eight year old dishwasher that wasn't performing up to par.Noise level:After I installed this dishwasher, which was pretty painless; the first thing I did was run a test wash to check for leaks. I did this without the bottom access panel attached, because...well... I was checking for leaks. Even with this panel off it was easy to notice how much quieter it was compared to my previous model. No leaks found, so I installed the access panel & WOW! you can hardly hear this thing running while standing next to it...very impressive.Performance:Of course no matter how quiet it is, it still needs to perform. We have had it for over a month now & it has never left any item uncleaned. No pre-rinsing required; this thing really works amazingly. No soap scum on glassware, baked-on mess...goodbye, silverware comes out sparkling; it cleans just as you would expect it to.Racks:The racks are well-designed & allow oddly shaped dishes to fit without a hassle, this is assisted by the fold-down tines & adjustable upper rack. The "split & fit" silverware baskets allow you to choose where they fit best for your needs.Style:Insert your own opinion here. We purchased the white unit & I was really impressed by how "clean" uncluttered it looks, my wife thinks it looks a "bit boring"...to each his / her own.Reliability:Only time will tell.Cons:The only complaint that I have is that concave-bottomed items like some glassware & plastic bowls; do not entirely dry. Not sure if you can really blame the dishwasher here or the designer of the glassware / bowls? Even with the extra heat option selected there is still some moisture present on these particular pieces. Don't misunderstand; I'm talking dampness here not a deluge of water.Overall, I would 100% recommend this dishwasher to anyone who will listen.

NOTE: I had intended this as a review, but inadvertently posted it as a comment to another review of this product. If you are seeing this a second time, that is why. This is a nice dishwasher - very, very quiet, which is a real plus in our tiny 1000 square foot ranch-style home. We only installed it a week ago, so I cannot comment on all the features, but I hope the following comments help anyone considering this model:1. Very, very quiet. We live in 1000 square foot ranch with an open concept living room/kitchen/dining area. This model is so quiet that we could run it while entertaining in the living room if we wanted to and not have a problem with conversation (probably wouldn't, but we could)!2. Top controls: A bit difficult to read when the dishwasher is closed, but we are able to see the position of the lights and have been able to "guesstimate" the cycle status based on that. Not a big deal.3. Adjustable top rack: Maytag could improve on this feature (or at least on it's marketing). One of the primary reasons we purchased this particular model was the advertised adjustable top rack. The User Guide that came as part of the packaging showed easy to use Rack Adjusters for lifting and lowering the top rack. We could not locate these on our dishwasher. After talking with a customer service rep, it appears that our model, while it does in fact have an adjustable top-rack, does not work that way. We were disappointed to learn that we have to remove two small hard-plastic tabs from the rack tracks, remove the rack and place it in the desired track and then replace the plastic tabs (so that the rack doesn't fall out). I have not been able to remove the plastic tabs myself - my husband has had to remove them each time. I can only imagine how difficult this would be for someone with arthritis or joint weakness. Another concern is that the tabs will break - or drop and wind up under a cabinet or the refrigerator. If that were to happen, we would not be able to use the top rack until we found or replaced the tabs since the top rack will most definitely fall out. We encourage Maytag to consider installing the Rack Adjusters on all units that advertise the adjustable top rack. If this is not an option, then we encourage Maytag to revise the advertising to reflect the difference between models.Drying: The inside of the unit does remain quite wet even after the heated cycle, but Maytag does recommend a rinse aid to facilitate better drying, so we will try that and see if it helps. We would rather not have to purchase and use yet another product since it impacts our budget, but this is more of an inconvenience - not a complaint.Other features: This unit does offer many cycle options, and while we have not yet tried them all, we are confident that the actual dish-washing features will reflect Maytag's history of high quality performance.

Comments about Maytag Black Jetclean Built-In Dishwasher:
I purchased this dishwasher because we wanted to modernize our kitchen and go with a stainless steel look. I had an older Maytag dishwasher that worked fine so we decided to stay with that brand since our white one had been so good to us. After installed we really enjoyed the look and quality of this equipment until the control lock button would not disengage. We can no longer use our appliance and I waited on hold for over 30 minutes to reach Maytag only to find out it would cost me $95 for a guy to make a call out. I would have figured the washer would have lasted longer without an issue, guess I was wrong.

Exactly 4 years and the control panel went out. Poor design means moisture gets into the circuitry. Google "Maytag dishwasher panel problems" and see what you find.

Love the sleek front - no handle to bump into. Stainless steel interior a plus, keeps water hot, not necessary to run drying cycle. Virtually no noise.
Quiet and Efficient

We bought this for our newly built house and kitchen. It is probably the quietest and most efficient dishwasher I have ever owned. My wife loves it and we wouldn't own anything else.

DO NOT BUY!!! SAFETY HAZARD!!!
By Not Happy

I never write reviews; but I feel compelled to write one given the utterly unsatisfactory performance of this dishwasher. Plus, it is a safety hazard!!!- I have had this for only about 2 years. - After only a year, the control panel started malfunctioning - lights would keep flashing, control would keep beeping, machine wouldn't start. After searching the Internet, we have found this to be a VERY COMMON PROBLEM. We were able to reset the panel through some tips offered by other users, albeit temporarily.- Recently the machine started turning itself on in "Heat" or "Sanitize" mode. I couldn't tell which since none of the control panel lights were on. However, I could tell since the machine and our counter top were very hot (much like what it would feel like when it was running). THIS IS A SAFETY/FIRE HAZARD!- I called Maytag but this was not covered under the warranty. I got the standard "I'll send a service person to perform diagnostics". Based on what I've read from other customer experiences, this could turn out to be a very expensive proposition.Sure, the machine looks nice and sleek and has what seems to be very good features. However, its quality and performance are SO poor, Also, the noise level isn't that much different from our 15-year old GE dishwasher that we replaced - this newer model DOES NOT even come close to being QUIET.
Dishwasher shelves rusted

Dishwasher great. At 2 1/2 years old the shelves rusted to the point of putting stains on the dishes.
Cleans great and very quiet!

I had Maytag dishwashers in my 2 previous houses and always loved the way they cleaned and sanitized my dishes. We moved into a home that came with a different brand that wasn't very old but it didn't clean well and was very loud. Because of my past positive experiences with Maytag dishwasher I had to get another one.
Short Lasting Quality

Have owned this dishwasher for 2 years and 1 month. The touch panel and control board are wrecked from water leaking into them and no longer functions. Repairman estimates $600.00 plus to repair this dishwasher. Also, from day 1, we have had white spots on all our glasses and dishes. We added apple cider vinegar to solve this, however we will not be purchasing another Maytag as the unit is not covered under warranty for defective seals. For a machine that states 10+ years of consistent use, this is pretty disappointing that it only lasted 20% of that.
