When I first had this delivered, I started using it right away. I found three minor quirks that some may not like. First, you cannot rapid preheat the oven in convection mode. However, I do like that it converts regular bake temps to convection bake temps and that the convection fan is so quiet that I thought it wasn't working. Second, the sound levels are not loud, so if you aren't nearby - you might miss it. The last thing that I don't like is that I have to remove the extra oven racks for faster preheating - I don't have room in my small kitchen for them to be anywhere but in the oven. I do like the three racks though and especially the split rack! The stove top is beautiful! Lint does seems to collect there so I am always wiping it off, but I rather do that than have a speckled glass top that other manufacturers offer. I love the clean lines and look of this oven. I was so happy about my purchase that I bought the matching microwave!!

I am searching for a new range and having problems finding reviews from people who have actually owned their range for more than a month or so. So, I thought I would write a review of the one I'm replacing, in case it will be helpful to someone.

We liked this range quite a bit for about a year. I was very disappointed that the cooktop clouded or bubbled or something almost immediately (first week), and in 3 1/2 years I've never been able to get it cleaned off. It is a sleek, attractive model, and unfortunately having a stained, marred cooktop really spoils that effect. I understand that ceramic cooktops require extra work to keep them looking their best; however, I've followed all of Whirlpool's instructions, both cooking and cleaning, and I still have a very stained stove.

The rapid boil never worked. That wasn't a deal-killer for us.
For 13 months, we were generally happy with how it cooked, and liked the features. Then came Thanksgiving 2013, when I was preparing dinner for 10. Suddenly the oven spontaneously roared up to nearly 500 degrees and incinerated the baking food I had just checked. The control board gave us an error message (which I'm sorry, I can't remember after 28 months). The range was inoperable until we turned it off at the breaker. It appeared to reset and be okay until yes, suddenly it would again roar up to very high temps and burn the food. It continued to do this for about a week until we finally gave up and left it off. I began to look around online to find out what to do, and turned up the info that we were not unique. Unfortunately the answer usually was to replace the control board, which would then usually repeat the problem after just a few months.

Before we did anything, after a month or so, my husband tried using the oven again and...surprise... it worked just fine. It has continued to work fine for two years, until 2:00 a.m. the night before Thanksgiving 2015, when once again the heat soared up and incinerated the pie I had JUST checked and determined needed 3-4 more minutes. We did the breaker thing again for a couple of days and finally it stopped heating past 190. Six months later that's still the best it will do.

This range was not the most high-end on the market, and I didn't expect it to last forever, but I did expect it to last more than 37 months. I chose Whirlpool Gold because we have always had excellent results with previous Whirlpool products. My previous range was a 25-year-old Whirlpool Gold which was finally starting to lose power in the oven element. This range was not just a disappointment, but its failure came at a spectacularly bad time. We were in the middle of an unexpected kitchen renovation. The one thing I did not expect to have to replace was my 3-year-old range, which still feels reasonably new.

Unfortunately I am now wary about buying another Whirlpool product. I probably regret that as much as Whirlpool.

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Freestanding Electric Range:

I didn't realize when I bought new home with range that
it was not a self clean oven. The hot water ?? idea is
a total waste. Does not clean the oven or even loosen.
I had to scrub scrub scrub with a scraper. Lots of work.

Problems with shattering glass oven door

By

from Vancouver Wa

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Freestanding Electric Range:

I had the inner glass of the oven door spontaneously shatter 5 days after I bought it! It wasn't on, I hadn't had a chance to use it yet. Since it was brand new I thought the dealer would just replace it and address it with whirlpool. Instead they said if it was more than 48 hours whirlpool would deal with it. They had to order a part. A week later they worked on it. I am still finding small pieces of glass. Thank God I don't have small children. Not a good start. The customer service person when I called suggested I might want to buy an extended warranty! This did not make me have confidence in this product. Also don't think the top cleans as easily as my older model.

Very Sad

By

from Atlanta, GA, United States

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Freestanding Electric Range:

I bought this range 2 weeks ago and I'm getting ready for my second service call. First the right front eye did not work. Now the oven light won't work, stays on all the time. It's made with a cheap rod that moves when the door closes. This is a very poor design, so sad to see this kind of workmanship.

nice looking

By

from Twin Falls, ID, United States

Comments about Whirlpool 30" Stainless Steel Freestanding Electric Range:

I bought a whirlpool appliance after haveing a terrible experience with another name brand appliance....as far as my opinion on my whirpool range....love the looks of it..but..the rapid pre-heat.?? (not any faster than normal pre-heat),..glass cooktop is a nightmare to clean....and..last thing...I feel it would be much more functional to have the small burners in front and the large ones in the rear....personally I rarely use my big stock pots
