High efficient washers take some trial and error to figure out how they work best. I miss my old Frigidare that lasted 15 years, built like a workhorse, basic, consistent, dependable. I've tried 2 new HE washers, all new washers are HE. I first bought a 900 dollar kenmore front loader that just didn't work for me because of the stinky bacteria build up and it never got out stains my old washer would have. After that fail I tried this basic GE washer and I spent time investigating it. The biggest problem with HE washers is the lack of water needed to wash a full load of clothes. This washer works best filling with the lid closed because the agitator spins while filling thus getting water to the clothes on top. If you close the lid after the tub is filled with water the clothes on top will be noticeably drier and less clean. I changed my routine to detergent, clothes, fabric softener, start, dilute fabric softener, close lid promptly. I love the fact you can choose the water level even though I just keep the setting at SUPER which is the old school medium. Anyone that ever owned a HE washer that automatically determines, whirlpool cough cough, the water level knows this fustration. The spin is very good and reduces dry time to match the washer's regular color cycle with fabric softener, extra rinse, and extended spin settings. About 50 minutes. That makes me efficient! The extra rinse does not negate the use of fabric softener like old school washers would rinse the softener off. This is probably due to less water in the rinse. Changing the wash settings to a heavier load setting greatly increases the wash time. The most I've timed is 1 hour and 45 minutes with the heavily soiled and soak settings. The washer is only loud during the spin cycle. Light loads can move the washer during spin. Hasn't eaten any sheets yet.All in All this is the closest to what I was looking for. I have a family of six and I do two or three loads a day before work.

Washed basket is 17". On any setting washer will not fill more than 7". Water never covers any load. To cover with water I would need to cut the load size by half that of my previous washer doing twice as many loads.

We bought this washer 6 months ago. Still surprised how many clothes can be washed in one load. Also like the precise fill feature. We used to own a Maytag front loader and our clothes get much cleaner now.

THIS MACHINE IS HORRIBE, NIGHTMARE!
from new jersey
THIS MACHINE IS HORRIBLE, NIGHTMARE! NO WATER CONTROL IF NEEDED MORE WATER. DOES'T CLEAN WELL AT ALL. YELLOWS, DIRT, OIL ETC. I HATE IT! WHAT A MISTAKE! DELICATE IF TOO STRONG FOR KNITS OR SWEATERS. NEEDS EXTRA DELICATE AND LOWER SPIN. AND MORE WATER CONTROL.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about GE White Top Load Washer:
Will never buy another GE appliance
After only 2 yrs. (maybe less) my washer is unusable and needs over $700 in repairs. The tub came loose from the washer! Search for more reviews. They are out there. I wish I had.

The washer has met my expectations! I chose this brand because my Mom is a GE fan and I have not been disappointed. The washer has a plethora of features for any fabric. The quietness is also a plus. Great model GE!

It's no wonder this model was discontinued. What a piece of junk. Within a month of purchase the spin cycle stopped working. Even after three service calls and a new motor it stopped spinning again. Local dealer was great to work with and took it back. Will never buy another GE product again.
Performance is poor do to the water level! It would be a excellent washer if it used more water. Do not buy this if you have a lot of Laundry to do.You can thank our government with it's stupid mandates on our USA companies.
