NEver NEver NEver purchase one of those washers that have that stupid ribbed wash plate at the bottom of the tub. Two weeks before we bought this washer, we had purchased a high end top loading machine without an agitator (the kind that has one of those stupid wash plates in the bottom of the tub). After running a load of very dirty jeans through 3 cycles with the first machine, the jeans were still dirty. WE called the dealer and immediately returned the machine. Then we purchased this machine with the agitator. It does a GREAT job of cleaning heavy soiled clothes. You can manually select to fill the tub with lots of water. Don't buy one of those machines that has a wash plate in the bottom of the tub, or that only uses a couple gallons of water to make the clothes wet. You need a full tub of water and an agitator with a top loading machine in order to get clothes clean. I would not even consider a front loader. They are a current fad, cost more and have the problem of traping moisture inside the unit due to no ventilation when the door is closed. This leads to bacteria forming inside the machine and causing a need to dis-infect and deodorize the front loading machines. Stick to a top loader for less money and better performance.

I bought this washer and it is the worst washer I ever bought! It sprinkles a tiny drop of water no matter if you set it on super load! Than it takes so long to start and it very slowly moves and you can't look into it to see what's going on because it stops! I stood and waited to see and hear if it was going to eventually add More water thinking that it was just doing a prewash, and it doesn't ! I wish I could give it back and get a different washer, but I'm screwed! I have had numerous washers in My life, I'm 58 years old and always bought whirlpools, but I bought this one because iHappy Anniversary!t was what I could afford at that time , and I am so sorry that I did! GE, you need to do something about this problem that all of us unsatisfied buyers are complaining about ! Never Again! Worst Product Ever!!!

I am so happy with this machine. I like the quietness of the washer itself and the selection buttons for water temperature and capacity etc. I am also very happy with the stainless steel tub. Overall it is a very nice machine.

Happy with purchase.

After hearing a lot of stories from other consumers about dissatisfaction with the HE top loaders (no agitator), front loading machines (stale musty odors) and general operation of those machines we opted to stay with the traditional top loading machines with an agitator. This model is the largest capacity in a top load we could find. So far so good. Only one minor issue is the funny almost whiney noise when then machine repositions the clothes. Hopefully I can adjust to the different noise. Otherwise it has a very quiet operation.

So far, I really like this washer! Cleans and freshens clothes more than most washers.

why did I ever waste my money on anything else? and this one is even better than those I had in decades past. it runs quiet and it saves water and energy.
I purchased this washer 10 months ago because it fit in my available space. My impressions is that the machine does not clean well and is abrasive. My biggest issue is that two times the agitator has come off. The first time items got caught underneath the agitator and the activator cap cracked and had to be replaced. The second time the agitator was damaged from spinning unattached..

So nice to have a really nice washer....excellent value!
Only HE washer with adjustable water levels.
from Sugar Land, TX
The reason I bought this machine was because it actually allows you to adjust the water level to an extent, unlike other HE machines and it's replacement (GTWN5550DWW). When Precision Fill is selected it just doesn't fill with enough water to clean heavily soiled items. That's the problem with 99% of the so called HE washers today. I only use the setting for delicate lightly soiled items. Other Pros: .Cleans clothes very well (with proper water level set). Fairly quite, Spin cycle really does do a good job of getting moisture out of clothes so less drying time is needed. Love the LED countdown timer. I did not think I would utilize it but I do constantly. Larger tub then my old washer. I can wash much bigger loads then before. Plenty of cycles gives you many wash options. Pause feature allows you to add additional clothes. Cons: It has no pre-wash setting. Instead I use quick rinse or extra rinse. Manual could be better. Doesn't really explain all the different functions of this washer. I still have no idea what the difference is between cold, cool and top cold. (What the heck is top cold?) Wish it had been available in other colors besides white. The biggest con though is GE no longer makes this model. I'm so glad I got one before they discontinued it. I will not buy any washer that doesn't allow some user control of the water level. DO NOT CONFUSE THIS MACHINE WITH IT"S REPLACEMENT. YOU CANNOT ADJUST WATER LEVEL ON NEW MACHINE.
