Replacing an old double oven, we had several options in our price range. This model was on the short list because the 27" model wasn't a stripped down version of the 30" unit. We weren't looking to remodel just yet, so keeping the cabinet size was important. I think that most of my comments should apply to the single-oven model and the 30" version too. As I mentioned in the summary, this oven is pretty loud. It's not a convection oven -- it doesn't have a fan that circulates air inside the oven chamber. It does, however, have a blower in the cabinet that I assume maintains a more even wall temperature. That blower is a lot louder than the convection fan we had in a unit in a previous home. It's our loudest appliance in the kitchen, excepting the disposal. Louder than the range exhaust fan, fridge or dishwasher. Not a big problem, baking is usually done in the daytime here, but it's something you just won't notice in the showroom. Overall, for about the same money we could have dual self cleaning (this one) or top-only clean + mild convection. We opted for the double clean, and haven't regretted it. Baking doneness is even enough, I think the cabinet blower helps with that. And it's electric, not gas, so evenness isn't that big of a worry anyway. Preheat to 350F takes under 8 minutes in a 72 degree kitchen, and the display shows the temp. during that time. It's got two clean modes. The regular one is the type you're used to: oven door is locked shut for 3 or 4 hours while the oven is cranked up to maximum temperature and spills are burned to ash. The kitchen gets hot, and a little smoke wafts around as all those drippings are incinerated. The other clean mode is the "steam clean." You follow the instructions on the display, pour a measured amount of water on the "floor", close the door and let it go. Since it's just boiling the water it doesn't get very hot at all, and the whole cycle takes about a half hour. When done, you wipe the (hopefully) loosened gunk off and mop up the excess water -- it leaves more than I expected. Recent messes are generally softened enough to get them fairly clean. It's not a replacement for the high-temp clean, but is more of a maintenance step to be used periodically, especially after making a mess. The control panel/display is very good. Meaningful text on a large display prompts you through all the steps needed to clean, bake, broil, use the cook timer (which turns off the oven when done) and the kitchen timer. The kitchen timer is independent from the cook time, so you can use them both at once. The only function I can't figure out from the display prompts alone is the delayed bake ("start time"). I tried it for grins, didn't figure it out, and never bothered to check the manual -- probably won't do it, since I don't figure I'll ever use that anyway. Bonus points for the controls: If you enter a time like "90 minutes" (instead of 1:30), is doesn't freak out and turn off the oven like a couple other brands out there (you know who you are). It just counts down the 90 minutes -- just like you'd expect it to. The doors and windows stay cool enough to be touched without discomfort. This is a plus with kids in the house. Quirks. The cabinet blower keeps going after the oven is turned off until it's cooled down. Also, every so often, the oven shuts down for a second or two, then resumes everthing like nothing happened. Temp stays set, clock doesn't lose time, timer keeps right on counting. If it weren't for the noisy blower, you'd probably never notice. It's not frequent or predictable enough for a service call, but I might do it before warranty is up.

    Double oven

    By GrandyKim

Comments about Whirlpool 27" Stainless Steel Electric Double Wall Oven:

Love, love it!!! I did a lot of research before buying my double oven. My house was built in the late 1970's and the cutout size for my oven was limited. I decided to give up a set of cabinets to give me a double oven instead of a single oven. The design of the ovens are classy and very updated. I would recommend the Whirlpool brand. They are roomy and cook very evenly. I absolutely love the large viewing window which was the biggest reason I decided on a Whirlpool. Awesome job, Whirlpool.

    lovely appliance - poor information

A lovely replacement addition to my kitchen. The direction/information booklet was almost certainly written by an engineer who neither has used the particular oven nor I suspect has never cooked. There must be a better way!

Sleek exterior, large windows, bright lights!

    By sswindham

Comments about Whirlpool 27" Stainless Steel Electric Double Wall Oven:

What would the holidays be without ovens? Without DOUBLE ovens?! Just in time for Thanksgiving my bright, shiny, sleek double ovens arrived. Not normally the optimum time to adjust to new appliances, Whirlpool saved the day just in time. The computerized system is easy to learn. While the preheating time is definitely longer than my previous Whirlpool ovens, the high powered fan keeps my kitchen cool. I'm especially fond of the hidden heating element feature, as any spills or overflows are not sizzling away on the element, but are quickly eradicated by the constant clean capabilities. Great purchase just in time!

    It's a Keeper!

    By Nslagle

Comments about Whirlpool 27" Stainless Steel Electric Double Wall Oven:

Fits the space nicely. Easy to install (thanks to handy hubby). Did have that new oven smell for about the first 3-4 uses, but didn't affect the taste of the baked items. Takes 8 minutes to preheat, but our other oven took 5, so the extra 3 isn't an issue. When cooking is complete, I open the oven door, and after 3 minutes (almost exactly), the fan noise stops. Even baking, no issues, no complaints.

New oven. Used the self clean feature once. It blew a fuse and it took a month to get a replacement. Had to cancel Christmas dinner at my house.

    Liking it so far

    By Adriana14

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Whirlpool 27" Stainless Steel Electric Double Wall Oven:

I bought this double oven about a month ago and so far I have not had major problems with it and am happy with the way it is baking. I would have given it 5 stars but there are a couple of things which I do not like. The first thing is that it takes a long time to preheat. For example, it has been taking about 10-13 minutes to get to 350degrees; with my last oven I was used to it being ready in about 5 minutes. Also I dislike that if you make a mistake in entering settings, there is no "delete," or "back," button. It makes a fan-like sound while baking, which does not bother me but it is worth mentioning. Otherwise it is baking evenly, the settings are easy to set, (except if you make a mistake, which I mentioned above) and I love the "keep warm" feature on the bottom oven. The interior space is very large for the oven being on the smaller side, which I love. And, last but not least, it looks beautiful in my kitchen :)

    PERFECTION!

    By Lisa 4

    from California

Comments about Whirlpool 27" Stainless Steel Electric Double Wall Oven:

I am SO happy with my new oven. For the first time in 15 years - my food cooks evenly. I can see the food when I put the light on, it's easy to program, the timer works with the real time! Thanksgiving was the real test - I was able to cook my turkey in the top oven and heat the majority of my side dishes in the bottom. When I took the turkey out to cool - I popped the last few side dishes in to heat up. My last oven fit so few things - I couldn't even fit 2 aluminum tins side by side. My new oven - I fit 2 - side by side and each rack was able to stack 2 more on top - so I got 8 small aluminum tins into the bottom oven to heat - whereas in years past, I could only get 3 tops - and that was if 1 of the tins was cockeyed. Absolutely no regrets with this purchase - I highly recommend it! I am one very happy customer!

Both ovens are the same size

    By reiks

Comments about Whirlpool 27" Stainless Steel Electric Double Wall Oven:

I bought these wall ovens just b4 Thanksgiving..as I had been saying I'd get a new one b4 Thanksgiving for 2 years at least..the old oven was original w/ this house. It's great knowing that the temperature in oven is what it is set at, that I have self cleaning that is going to work (my oven hasn't gotten dirty yet), and that the oven lets me know when the warming up to set temp is reached.

Dinner was saved and I may very happy with my new ovens.
