Replacing an old double oven, we had several options in our price range. This model was on the short list because the 27" model wasn't a stripped down version of the 30" unit. We weren't looking to remodel just yet, so keeping the cabinet size was important. I think that most of my comments should apply to the single-oven model and the 30" version too.As I mentioned in the summary, this oven is pretty loud. It's not a convection oven -- it doesn't have a fan that circulates air inside the oven chamber. It does, however, have a blower in the cabinet that I assume maintains a more even wall temperature. That blower is a lot louder than the convection fan we had in a unit in a previous home. It's our loudest appliance in the kitchen, excepting the disposal. Louder than the range exhaust fan, fridge or dishwasher. Not a big problem, baking is usually done in the daytime here, but it's something you just won't notice in the showroom.Overall, for about the same money we could have dual self cleaning (this one) or top-only clean + mild convection. We opted for the double clean, and haven't regretted it. Baking doneness is even enough, I think the cabinet blower helps with that. And it's electric, not gas, so evenness isn't that big of a worry anyway.Preheat to 350F takes under 8 minutes in a 72 degree kitchen, and the display shows the temp. during that time. It's got two clean modes. The regular one is the type you're used to: oven door is locked shut for 3 or 4 hours while the oven is cranked up to maximum temperature and spills are burned to ash. The kitchen gets hot, and a little smoke wafts around as all those drippings are incinerated. The other clean mode is the "steam clean." You follow the instructions on the display, pour a measured amount of water on the "floor", close the door and let it go. Since it's just boiling the water it doesn't get very hot at all, and the whole cycle takes about a half hour. When done, you wipe the (hopefully) loosened gunk off and mop up the excess water -- it leaves more than I expected. Recent messes are generally softened enough to get them fairly clean. It's not a replacement for the high-temp clean, but is more of a maintenance step to be used periodically, especially after making a mess. The control panel/display is very good. Meaningful text on a large display prompts you through all the steps needed to clean, bake, broil, use the cook timer (which turns off the oven when done) and the kitchen timer. The kitchen timer is independent from the cook time, so you can use them both at once. The only function I can't figure out from the display prompts alone is the delayed bake ("start time"). I tried it for grins, didn't figure it out, and never bothered to check the manual -- probably won't do it, since I don't figure I'll ever use that anyway.Bonus points for the controls: If you enter a time like "90 minutes" (instead of 1:30), is doesn't freak out and turn off the oven like a couple other brands out there (you know who you are). It just counts down the 90 minutes -- just like you'd expect it to.The doors and windows stay cool enough to be touched without discomfort. This is a plus with kids in the house.Quirks. The cabinet blower keeps going after the oven is turned off until it's cooled down. Also, every so often, the oven shuts down for a second or two, then resumes everthing like nothing happened. Temp stays set, clock doesn't lose time, timer keeps right on counting. If it weren't for the noisy blower, you'd probably never notice. It's not frequent or predictable enough for a service call, but I might do it before warranty is up.

I purshased the oven and after using it for one day I told the dealer that it was unacceptable due to the high sound level that I presume is from the cooling fan. It sounds l;ike my microwave when it is running. It will be removed from my house by the dealer and I will buy another brand. I believe the product is defective

An oven that emits a high pitched whistle!
from Pittsburgh PA
Whirlpool should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such a terrible product. I never actually used the ovens, just the sound from the fans which cool the electronics were a dealbreaker for me. Do I understand that they need to be there? Yes. Do I know that fans make noise? Yes. I can understand both of these realities. Should the movement of air through the slits above the oven door create a HORRIBLE high pitched whistle? Absolutely not. How, in good conscience, your engineers could possibly put out such a sub-par product is beyond me. Whirlpool did not take the product back because this is considered "normal" operation. So much for standing behind your products. Fortunately the vendor took the oven back and I paid $1000 more for a quiet Bosch oven. So sad. I was proud to buy American. Until I experienced the lack of quality.

EXTREMELY NOISY OVEN
By Unhappy Baker
from Memphis, TN
I just bought this double oven a week ago and I am so dissatisfy with how noisy this oven is. Best way to describe the noise level is like you are in a wind tunnel and you constantly hear the wind noise blowing through my entire house when the oven is on. It is so annoying that I can't even watch TV in my living room without hearing the fan noise. I wanted to return the oven but the appliance store told me a service tech had to come out and check to make sure there was nothing wrong with it. The service tech said this was normal. The appliance store said they would have to charge me a 30% restocking fee and another installation fee to exchange it for something not as noisy. I thought that was an extremely high restocking fee since this oven has not been used. Seems like Whirlpool could have made a product that was not so noisy, poor engineering design. I think Whirlpool and other brands should put a decibel on their product description like they do for the dishwasher so consumers are better informed and not be shocked when they turn on the ovens for the first time and hear so much fan noise.
Terrific New Oven
This is a substantial upgrade over our original oven. The controls are very user-friendly. It also does not have "hot spots", which eliminates uneven cooking. The racks retract smoothly and there is plenty od space in either oven. The only improvement that Whirlpool could make would be to minimize the sound of the fan on the unit. It creates a minor whistling tone.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Beautiful and functional

The entire kitchen looks updated since we installed this new double oven. Controls are very easy to use and cooking is even. Only tricky part is make sure you work with professional installers to be sure your wall matches the size of the appliance

We recently moved and bought this to replace a 35 year old unit. This double oven works well and actually gives us more oven space than my free-standing oven in my previous home. I am not used to cooking with electric, but I found the user guide very helpful when getting started.
Happy with Double Oven
from Huntington Beach, CA
New double-oven as part of a total kitchen remodel. In use for only 60 days, have only used a few times. Happy with performance; maintaining temperature, lighting inside of oven and racks. I knew from reviews that the oven would be noisy during pre-heat, operation, and cool down. I was not really bothered by the reviews as my 25 yr old oven was also noisy. With the new Whirlpool ovens, the lower oven noise and hot air that exhausts is reasonable; then, for the upper level oven the noise is really loud, has an annoying sound to it and emits a lot of hot air onto the drawer and floor below. Wish the hot air was deflected up and that the loud noise had more of a hum sound to it or was quieter.

I love the ovens but the noise from the fan running constantly is annoying with its high pitch sound and it is hard to stay in the same room for a prolonged time!
Whirlpool double wall ovens with steam cleaning
from Jackson, MS
I purchased my ovens about a month ago. I am so happy that I did. I haven't quite figured out how to work all the settings yet but I'm having fun trying. I like the size of the ovenss. Having both ovens will make for easier holiday cooking.
A beautiful new look in my kitchen
from Moraga CA
It is too early for me to give a fair evaluation of the stove performance. The modernistic design is a plus. As to the performance, I still have reservations: slow to preheat, noisy, upper shelving too high, smoke (because stove is new?)...I have not tried the self cleaning yet.
