After months of researching the available unitized systems and reading all the comments, I chose this unit (GE-GTUN27EMWW). The dimensions of the area built for it are 41 inches deep and 34.5 inches wide. This is plenty of area for this unit with extra room for easy access to the water shut-off valve. Since the area was complete before I chose the unit, I ended up putting the plumbing on the wrong side. When looking at the front, the water hook-ups on the unit are in the back on the right side. My water valves are on the left side but the hoses are plenty long enough to reach. I have 6 inches of dead space behind the unit to give the dryer vent enough room to go through a wall on the right. You only need a dryer outlet for this as both washer and dryer are powered by the same cord. This unit comes assembled so make sure the doorways are wide enough. I had to widen the RO of the bathroom doorway to get the unit in. It was a kitchen ornament for a few days....ooops. The washer sounds are weird if you are used to the old-type machines. Don't panic, the clicking and pauses are normal. The water sound in the drum is also normal. The unit uses a liquid ring to keep it balanced so, no, there isn't old water trapped in it like I thought at first. I am very happy with my choice. It is a nice-looking unit, it runs quietly, and does a great job. I love the dial selections and placement, (bottom of dryer instead of way up top) although I set it once and now just hit the start button for the washer. You may be surprised at the capacity. I forewarned my son about how this unit will be different from our set in the basement and that the load must be limited. There was no need for that, this unit holds as much if not more than our regular-sized set. I love the dryer and have only lost 1 button but I wish there was something that held the door open. I leveled the unit but the natural sway of the door puts it right above my head when I am taking the clothes out of the washer. Watch your head! My clothes come out wrinkle-free and dried nicely using the timed dry set at 45-50 minutes. I haven't tried the rest of the settings available yet. I use regular detergent only. The unit has places for bleach and fabric softener if you use those. The lint trap for the dryer is the easiest to clean as I have ever seen. I don't even have to take the screen out. I just scoop the lint out with my hand which prevents lint dust from flying all over the bathroom. So glad I ditched the front loaders and got this unit. :)

I've had the machine over 2 months now. Here is my opinion on it: The wash tub is large (quite deep), which is nice since it holds more than my last machine. The only downside is I have to lean way in to get the clothes out. I don't like the knocking sounds that occur when the cycle is finished. The machine (both washer & dryer) is also very noisy while operating. I like having the controls in the middle of the machine vs at the top. All-in-all, the machine does what I need it to do, and it is the right size and style for my condo. I recommend it as long as potential buyers understand there is more than average noise during operation. I eventually got used to it.

Excellent fit for the space we have
from Surf City, NC
This unit has more capacity than we expected. It fits in a comparatively small space and is just what we needed.

This product allowed me to put a laundry area in my new kitchen, which is very convenient for me.
Okay Washer, Excellent Dryer
from Georgia, United States
This unit was larger than expected. It seems to be well-built and sturdy. The washer takes some getting used to since it does not have a traditional agitator. It also seems that the washer has a difficult time getting out tough stains, but works well enough for my family's dirt level. The dryer works great...absolutely no complaints there.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Better than expected
I was worried about having to settle for a smaller load capacity with a stackable unit, but this one has a great amount of space. My only complaint is that the machine is very loud.
Convenient, quiet & fun

This is the first stacked washer & dryer center I have ever owned after years of owning side-by-side matching sets. I never thought I would say it, but I almost look forward to doing laundry now. First, with the space saved by this laundry center, I was able to set up a very tidy sorting section of baskets for the various types of dirty laundry, such as cold whites, dark whites, warm whites and warm darks. I also had room to set up a nice shelf for detergents right next to the laundry center. Now everything I need is right there in one place and I don't even need to take a step to reach it all. To my surprise, the laundry center has a huge tub in each piece so that I can actually wash duvets, blankets, etc. and it runs so quietly. There is even room to fold on the washer top when closed. I love all the selection options on both pieces as well. I have put them to the test and they actually do what they are supposed to. I ended up buying the laundry center when I sold a large home and downsized into an apartment but I wish I had discovered the laundry center concept years ago. One can never have too much saved space!!!!
simple but loud
from Tacoma, Wa
It's simple to use, and the washer has a large capacity, which I love. I've had two service calls in 3 months, however, because it is unusually loud. An internal part was bent, and replaced, but it is still significantly louder than my previous model.
Would NOT recommend, ruined clothes
Had to have repair man work on this new unit. Grease all over clothes because they over-greased the washing machine in the factory. Also had to have the dryer drum replaced because it was eating buttons and cords. Washing machine is loud.

Love this pair!!!!
from Appling, Ga
This unit does more than I expected!!! The washer is large enough for my kings size quilt. Everyone says it looks great. I have a bad back and this helps me without me having to bend over and take clothes out of the dryer.
