After months of researching the available unitized systems and reading all the comments, I chose this unit (GE-GTUN27EMWW). The dimensions of the area built for it are 41 inches deep and 34.5 inches wide. This is plenty of area for this unit with extra room for easy access to the water shut-off valve. Since the area was complete before I chose the unit, I ended up putting the plumbing on the wrong side. When looking at the front, the water hook-ups on the unit are in the back on the right side. My water valves are on the left side but the hoses are plenty long enough to reach. I have 6 inches of dead space behind the unit to give the dryer vent enough room to go through a wall on the right. You only need a dryer outlet for this as both washer and dryer are powered by the same cord. This unit comes assembled so make sure the doorways are wide enough. I had to widen the RO of the bathroom doorway to get the unit in. It was a kitchen ornament for a few days....ooops. The washer sounds are weird if you are used to the old-type machines. Don't panic, the clicking and pauses are normal. The water sound in the drum is also normal. The unit uses a liquid ring to keep it balanced so, no, there isn't old water trapped in it like I thought at first. I am very happy with my choice. It is a nice-looking unit, it runs quietly, and does a great job. I love the dial selections and placement, (bottom of dryer instead of way up top) although I set it once and now just hit the start button for the washer. You may be surprised at the capacity. I forewarned my son about how this unit will be different from our set in the basement and that the load must be limited. There was no need for that, this unit holds as much if not more than our regular-sized set. I love the dryer and have only lost 1 button but I wish there was something that held the door open. I leveled the unit but the natural sway of the door puts it right above my head when I am taking the clothes out of the washer. Watch your head! My clothes come out wrinkle-free and dried nicely using the timed dry set at 45-50 minutes. I haven't tried the rest of the settings available yet. I use regular detergent only. The unit has places for bleach and fabric softener if you use those. The lint trap for the dryer is the easiest to clean as I have ever seen. I don't even have to take the screen out. I just scoop the lint out with my hand which prevents lint dust from flying all over the bathroom. So glad I ditched the front loaders and got this unit. :)

I've had the machine over 2 months now. Here is my opinion on it: The wash tub is large (quite deep), which is nice since it holds more than my last machine. The only downside is I have to lean way in to get the clothes out. I don't like the knocking sounds that occur when the cycle is finished. The machine (both washer & dryer) is also very noisy while operating. I like having the controls in the middle of the machine vs at the top. All-in-all, the machine does what I need it to do, and it is the right size and style for my condo. I recommend it as long as potential buyers understand there is more than average noise during operation. I eventually got used to it.

Don't Waste Your Money

This was delivered on Aug. 9. The technician has been out twice since then (today is Oct. 8) So far two sensors and the washer motor have been replaced. Dryer is great. Given the high price and hassle of this experience, I would say do your homework before buying this particular unit.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Very impressed with my choice
from Michigan, United States
I bought this unit for use at our cottage. It fits perfectly in the space. It is very energy efficient as our electric bill remained low even though we had used it several times during our stay. Cleans and dries clothing, rugs and bedding exceedingly well, and it is easy to operate.

We like it
Have only had this machine a couple months but it is working well for us. Do wish it had a buzzer on the dryer so you knew when to change out the loads.

Love the washing cycles and the dryer is super quick!
Replacement for older unit that died.

Wife and I are very happy with this unit as a replacement for previous unit that did not work after years of use. This unit meets all our expectations on how a laundry system should function.
Quiet and efficient!

Find it is quieter and easier to use than previous machine!!!!

The dryer is awesome, though there was a noise problem that developed inside and had to have it repaired. Covered of course. The washing machine is loud. Not sure if I would ever buy a GE stack system again.

This unit is excellent. I'm not quite sure how they could fit such a large capacity washer and dryer into a small package.
Very good upgrade.
We've had this unit for over a month and are pleased. It washes cleaner & dries better than our old appliance. Our laundry closet is very small, we took exact measurement before we ordered this unit and it should have fit nicely; however, the redesign of the drier vent pipe to the center of the back caused much grief! The bi-fold door on the closet would not close. My husband is a fix-it guy so he made the bi-fold door into 2 doors, built up the casing, added more hinges and voila! the doors close. Why put the vent pipe in the center where the plumbing goes?? This is not an improvement!! These units are made for small spaces, keep the specs the same.
