After months of researching the available unitized systems and reading all the comments, I chose this unit (GE-GTUN27EMWW). The dimensions of the area built for it are 41 inches deep and 34.5 inches wide. This is plenty of area for this unit with extra room for easy access to the water shut-off valve. Since the area was complete before I chose the unit, I ended up putting the plumbing on the wrong side. When looking at the front, the water hook-ups on the unit are in the back on the right side. My water valves are on the left side but the hoses are plenty long enough to reach. I have 6 inches of dead space behind the unit to give the dryer vent enough room to go through a wall on the right. You only need a dryer outlet for this as both washer and dryer are powered by the same cord. This unit comes assembled so make sure the doorways are wide enough. I had to widen the RO of the bathroom doorway to get the unit in. It was a kitchen ornament for a few days....ooops. The washer sounds are weird if you are used to the old-type machines. Don't panic, the clicking and pauses are normal. The water sound in the drum is also normal. The unit uses a liquid ring to keep it balanced so, no, there isn't old water trapped in it like I thought at first. I am very happy with my choice. It is a nice-looking unit, it runs quietly, and does a great job. I love the dial selections and placement, (bottom of dryer instead of way up top) although I set it once and now just hit the start button for the washer. You may be surprised at the capacity. I forewarned my son about how this unit will be different from our set in the basement and that the load must be limited. There was no need for that, this unit holds as much if not more than our regular-sized set. I love the dryer and have only lost 1 button but I wish there was something that held the door open. I leveled the unit but the natural sway of the door puts it right above my head when I am taking the clothes out of the washer. Watch your head! My clothes come out wrinkle-free and dried nicely using the timed dry set at 45-50 minutes. I haven't tried the rest of the settings available yet. I use regular detergent only. The unit has places for bleach and fabric softener if you use those. The lint trap for the dryer is the easiest to clean as I have ever seen. I don't even have to take the screen out. I just scoop the lint out with my hand which prevents lint dust from flying all over the bathroom. So glad I ditched the front loaders and got this unit. :)

I've had the machine over 2 months now. Here is my opinion on it: The wash tub is large (quite deep), which is nice since it holds more than my last machine. The only downside is I have to lean way in to get the clothes out. I don't like the knocking sounds that occur when the cycle is finished. The machine (both washer & dryer) is also very noisy while operating. I like having the controls in the middle of the machine vs at the top. All-in-all, the machine does what I need it to do, and it is the right size and style for my condo. I recommend it as long as potential buyers understand there is more than average noise during operation. I eventually got used to it.

I am enjoying the large loads of laundry I can do, and I love adding the fabric softener in the beginning.

Love the water features on this machine and the efficiency of the dryer. All those features save money and water.
Sensible, Serious, Sold!
1950's cinderblock cottage, wood beams. Tried an HF washer/dryer, was a freight train and vibrated the whole house. Researched a TON of systems, bought this for: Space saving, highly efficient, self-balancing, spin rate (MUCH lower than HF), mechanical workings. Family-company installers said it is the easiest unit to install EVER. Chosen over much smaller-capacity competition, and USA influence. We call it "The Gronkulator," due to the sounds it makes-it is serious about its job and a trade from the horrid vibration and SOUND of the EF, to the switching sounds and "the laundry march" song it makes as it works. We love it. Clothes are incredibly clean and I like that we can adjust the water-we have a well/septic, and can splurge a bit with water usage. Dryer is efficient and DRIES, unlike the HF dryer that I fought with all the time. I normally hang my clothes outside to dry, though-my preference. Dislikes: No bell when cycle is done. No light in the dryer.
Washes well. Dries quickly.

Two damaged parts within the first month which required a GE Technician.

Simple, Easy, Nice...Saves Space
No problems, keep your loads small and use a small amount of detergent. Not a bad machine.
A perfect fit

This unitized design is the perfect fit for the small space we decided to use for our laundry area. The unit is nicely designed and I love the large capacity. It was quite expensive, so I hope we get a lot of years of use out of it. The only thing we don't like is that it makes a very disconcerting grinding noise when it is changing cycles. We also haven't been able to figure out how to deactivate the pause for adding softener. As long as that doesn't mean it has a defect, we can live with it because it is perfect otherwise.
Quiet, Energy and Water Efficient!

This compact laundry center gets my clothes clean and gives me several options for load capacity, temperature, and washing action. As an environmentalist, I am pleased that the autoload sensing feature does not overload the washer with water. The dryer also provides several options from no heat to regular. I generally use the medium heat setting.
Larger than I expected.

This machine is great It has a larger capacity than I expected and it works very well. I has many convenient features--bleach and softener dispensers. I like that it does not lock right away and if needed I can check the water level or add an item or two after the washer starts. It is compact in size and attractive. It is quieter than the older two piece stack set it replaced.
Quiet, energy efficient.
