The VT50 is the consumer TV of the year as far as I'm concerned. I am a THX Certified Level II Video Calibrator and with one exception Panasonic really got it right this year. In the Custom or (calibrator accessible)Day and Night ISF modes a full set of calibration controls is available and this display calibrates very well. The single exception is that the luminance controls in the Color Management System are inoperative but will hopefully be fixed in a future firmware release. Despite that, the luminance is very close to correct from the factory and within accepted calibration specifications.Another plus is that maximum brightness has been increased this year making the VT50 good for daytime bright room viewing.

Comments about Panasonic 65" 1080P 3D Smart Viera Plasma HDTV:

I knew I was going to be blown away by this TV going from a 15 year old rear projection unit but after a month I am still in awe of the picture quality. Out of the box the THX cinema setting provides an outstanding picture I have the professional calibration scheduled and I can't wait to see how that turns out. It's hard to imagine it being better but that is what I am told.

About Me Enthusiast
This TV has a STUNNING picture. Very Natural. Arguably the best TV built in 2012. It has none of the inherent weakness of LCD like off center viewing or motion artifacts. Many power users love it and pay to have it calibrated, but many people also post the settings on the Internet for you to duplicate. One thing perhaps overlooked is the dual core processor. This thing runs rings around other Streaming or internet players for speed. I can tell that it is much cooler than previous Plasmas, thus more energy efficient. Only quible is the Chrome Trim around the edge. (It reflects a Lamp I have in the room) Keep in mind that many new Thin TV's are quite short on Input jacks other than HDMI. This one uses a strange Dongle to provide either ONE component or ONE composit input. So, if you have more than one older non-hdmi device, you need to run them thru a reciever. Sound is only fair, but not unexpected as with any thin TV.

Great TV, but Inbuilt Speakers Lack
This television dwarfs my old 50". The features are top-notch, and the screen quality is honestly amazing. It's about an inch thick, and the glass covers nearly the entire front surface. With a blu-ray player, I upconverted Raiders of the Lost Ark on DVD, and it was magic. The sound is very muffled. A surround-sound system is impractical and unwanted for us, and I'm disappointed in the speakers. It sounds like somebody's sitting on the characters. The speakers are so ineffective that I originally thought the TV only had one speaker, which turned out to be the woofer. (There are two tiny speakers on the front bottom.) Even with the bass down and the treble up, the sound reminds me very much of Kenny McCormick.

The television itself if amazing. It dwarfs my old 50" Panasonic. Many professional reviews say this is the best TV in the world, but what kind of TV has only monaural sound? I don't want surround sound cables running around my room; and I don't want to mount anything on my wall, so I don't want surround sound. The one speaker this TV has is muffled and useless.

We absolutley love the tv but wish the speakers were better. The picture is just outstanding CNET was correct in labeling this as the best HDTV for picture in 2012.
