Ok, so I didn't think I'd be so thrilled that I'd actually be writing a review for a washer, but, nonetheless, here it is! This is the first front load washer I've owned and I can say that I will never go back to a top load again. I liked the idea of the Allergiene cycle that uses steam to remove 95% of common household allergens. My wife really suffers with her allergies and I really liked the fact that this wash cycle could help mitigate some of her suffering. The SpeedWash, TurboWash and ColdWash features were also big selling points. Couple that with the Direct Drive motor (as opposed to pulleys) for the movement of the drum and I was satisfied that I was getting a washing machine that would more than satisfy my needs. With regards to performance, this machine is the best I've ever owned. I had high expectations, but I was also somewhat skeptical as to what a front load washer would really be like. I was sure it would wash clothes and that it would do a good job, but would it really be a noticeable improvement over my old top loader? YES! If you've been on the fence, time to move. I do not regret this purchase at all. I've had the LG for about a week now and I've used it daily. First, the machine is extremely quiet during operation. Our laundry room is located in an open nook just off of the kitchen. There is no door to close to dampen the noise. Prior to this, we'd always have to adjust the TV volume accordingly when washing clothes. The only real intrusion I've noticed is during the initiation of the spin cycle. During the actual washing cycle, I don't even hear the machine. It doesn't intrude in conversation or TV viewing. It's amazingly quiet. Don't get me wrong, you can hear it if you choose to attend to the noise, but it becomes so innocuous in the background that it's easy to forget the machine is even running. Of course, once you hear it's end of cycle signal, you remember you had clothes running! Once the washer is spinning, it returns to very quiet operation, too. I just notice the difference when it moves from the wash cycle to the spin. And that's really if I'm even listening for it. Since I'm speaking of the spin cycle, this washer does not walk all across the laundry room floor either. It's very stable and has not even vibrated the floor, house, windows, etc. even once - not even a hint of vibration. Given that front load washers can spin at some pretty impressive speeds, I was surprised by this. The TrueBalance system on this machine is definitely impressive and effective! With regards to performance, I was thrilled at the difference between washing in the top loader and this LG. This LG replaced an old top loader that, at the time of purchase, was a top of the line washer. I nicknamed the old one the Washing Dead because it refused to die. It was 16 years old and still going strong. It was undoubtedly a relic. The agitator was a pain when it came to washing comforters. I can't begin to count the times that a small load would get out of balance and the machine would just stop until I manually balanced the load. Sometimes it would get out of balance and quit again within 5 minutes. This was annoying, but if I was home it wasn't a big deal. This would be a problem when I'd set clothes to wash when we were leaving. It was never a good feeling to come home only to find that the machine hadn't finished the job. Say goodbye to that problem. This machine completes the job every time. After several loads of clothes, I can say that my clothes feel cleaner. I could tell the difference with the first load of clothes I washed. However, because I didn't want to chalk it up just being excited about a new appliance, I waited several days to make a judgment. I have no doubt that our clothes are cleaner with this machine than they have ever been. Things just "feel" cleaner and on a deeper level, too. Another plus is that my clothes are not being beaten up by the agitator any longer. That means that clothes will look newer for a longer period of time. A front loader is just going to prolong the life of any garments washed in it. Another thing that amazed me about this washer was how dry clothes came out of the washer. I'm used to jeans dripping wet coming out of the old machine. That's a thing of the past. This machine spins as much water out of these clothes as possible and with such effectiveness that it reduces the amount of time (and therefore energy) needed to dry the clothes. That's a win-win scenario in my book! There are a multitude of programs and cycles available in this washer and I don't believe any of them are gratuitous. In a little over one week, I've found that I've used a great deal of them. About the only consideration I gave with my other washer was hot, warm or cold and then moving the slider to correct position for the size load of clothes I was washing. That's about it. With this machine, I can wash small loads or bulky loads. I washed two full sized comforters at the same time and still had room to spare. I've loved the ColdWash cycle and have found it to be just as effective as the warm wash cycle. I've used the Allergiene cycle and my wife commented that her sheets, pillowcases, and comforter never felt or smelled better. While there are a myriad of options available for washing, I have not found any to be gimmicky or unnecessary. I can see a use for all and have already used most. I purchased the matching pedestal to go with this unit and I highly recommend it. It brings the machine to eye level and eliminates stooping down to load or unload the machine. All in all, I'd buy this machine over again in a heartbeat! It's been one of the best appliance purchases I've made in years! The dryer that goes with this washer is also amazing and I have reviewed that as well. My wife and I both love the Wild Cherry color. It sounds awkward to refer to such a mundane appliance as sexy, but nonetheless the red is just that. It pops nicely against our mocha paint in the laundry/kitchen area. So not only is this unit visually stunning (again - hard to believe I'm talking about a washing machine and not an exotic car with such jargon!), but also incredibly efficient and effective. While the options are numerous, a quick read of the instructions manual or PDF online will have you up and running in no time. The automatic dispensing of HE detergent (liquid or powder, but I recommend liquid), fabric softener, pre-wash, and bleach takes all the guess work out of cleaning your clothes. I've found the pre-wash to be very effective at helping clean some of my red clay soiled jeans. I also got some dark cherry juice from cherries on a white t-shirt out without a trace. I didn't get a stain on the shirt intentionally, but I figured this would be a good litmus test for how efficaciously the washer cleaned clothes. It worked like a champ! When they first released appliances other than TVs, I was skeptical of LG. I once remarked, I don't want my refrigerator made by people who specialize in TVs. I can honestly say, I have been proven wrong. I would have no qualms buying a refrigerator or washer from either company. The highest compliment I can give LG is that they completely exceeded every expectation I had for this machine. Nothing feels cheap at all about this machine. It is truly a fantastic washer and, for the first time ever, everybody in the house wants to do the laundry!

I'm not happy with the washer. My main issues are machine noise and scent of the washed items. The washer is either extremely quiet or extremely loud, depending on where it is in the cycle. During the spin cycle it sounds like a jet engine revving up and there is a thumping noise. I keep checking to make sure the machine is balanced on the floor, and it is. Even something as benign as water filling the machine is loud, with these repetitive short bursts of loud water pressure, which jolt the hose so much it thwaps back against the wall every time the water stops. Clothes don't come out smelling very nice. It's a more neutral smell, with arm pit areas still having some body odor. I've taken to using two dryer sheets just to try to get that nice scent I'm used to. I've washed brand new items that have that slightly chemically smell and the chemical odor doesn't come out. I've also tried using the pre-wash feature but it didn't help the odor issue and it ruined one of my favorite washable wool sweaters, which had done just fine in the gentle cycle of my old machine. I also find having to wipe the door a nuisance and think this is a design flaw that the consumer is forced to compensate for. I don't even know if wiping is going to work in the long run. My sister has had her front loader for a year, and I walked into her laundry room the other day and it reaked of mildew odor. I thought great, is this what I have to look forward to, long after the return grace period when I am officially stuck with this washer. I was expecting a low water level, but what I see is no water level. It's basically wet clothes tumbling around. I don't know if that's normal. It doesn't look like the graphics I've seen which show a quarter to a third of the machine filled with water. Even the chirpy tune annoys me now because I don't feel chirpy about this machine. I feel like the consumer has been forced into these HE front loaders. I really just wanted a high quality old style top loader with an agitator, but such a machine does not exist. The non-HE top loaders with agitators are now the budget option, with few features and lots of negative user reviews. So I decided to go with the flow and buy a front loader because I didn't want a cheapy machine. But now that I'm dissatisfied with this front loader I don't feel like there's a washer out there for me. I know there are others like me, so I don't know why the manufacturers don't offer at least one high end model of the old style.

Terrible Machine Would Give Zero Stars. DO NOT BUY
from Philadelphia, PA, United States
This is a horrendous washing machine on many accounts. Like another reviewer, my cloths come out smelling moldy and disgusting. The rubber seal where you load the washer fills with water after each load and requires using a full towel to soak up as it is quite deep. Even when leaving the door open, the washer develops deep, smelly disgusting mold. It is unavoidable. Further, the drawer where you place the soap fills with water each cycle and the cups remains filled (!!) so you have to manually dump the removable one(s) yourself. Some of the compartments aren't even removables so there's nothing you can do but soil more towels to soak the water up. It makes no sense! I googled the model to read other people's experiences & reviews. I was hoping the model had been recalled because I can't describe this machine as anything but horribly defective in multiple ways. Buyer beware: DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. I will not be investing in LG products, moving forward.

Love Love Love!!!

I bought a similar model for my previous home becausenI didn't have room for a dryer and this was a perfect solution! Spins the clothes so well that it doesn't take long to hang dry. But when we sold our unit the buyer wanted my washer!! :(. I agreed only if I could get a new model in my new home. This time I bought the matching dryer. Twice the pleasure of doing laundry! I put them in my Master closet. They couldn't do a better job and they are so convenient! I just fold and put them away or hang.
My cloths smell like wet dog, no matter what I do!

After 2 decades of an ASKO this washer just doesn't make the grade. No mater what I do, my clothes just never smell clean. I sterilize the tub weekly. I do a "quick wash" after every regular wash to rinse out any soap that may be left. I can't use high fragrance soap to mask the smell. I am so very disappointed in this machine. I do like the dryer though!
I have had my LG washer for about 2 months. Every feature is well engineered! I have used most of the cycles and find them well identified and described. My new washer is quiet and gets my laundry so much cleaner than my dead 15 year old top of the line front loader. The spin cycle is so efficient that my 15 year of dryer is renewed, and takes much less drying time because of the washer spin action. I can hardly hear the washer running. I am using even less soap than my previous machine and my water billing has been lower. I am expecting a long useful life from this well designed washer.

I was a bit skeptical of the "New age" machine, being used to the old style basic models. I must say I am very impressed and love the choice of settings on this machine. Highly recommend!
The construction of this product is impressive..

I am impressed as to how well this product was built. The quality of construction really shows. I expect to get many years of service from this washing machine.
The BEST PRODUCT EVER!
from Topanga, CA, USA
Is it crazy that I look for excuses to use the washer? I absolutely love this washer, it allows me to adjust for all the different types of laundry, (hand washables, delicates, towels, exercise clothes, slip covers) we have in our household. I don't mind the extra laundry I have because it is a "Smart" washer and the cycle time adjust to the weight of the load I have put in the washer. It actually inspired me to remodel my laundry room. Do yourself a favor and get yourself this washer, you will not regret it!
Very nice washer

This washer has lots of great features. It cleans my clothes much faster than my old GE washer did and drying is just as fast! Overall, I am very pleased.
Very Good Overall Washer
from Denver, CO, USA
Lots of great features, and much improved over my Maytag! The only drawback is the loud thumping when it first sets/balances the load. However, the spinning cycles are very nice and quiet, and the clothes are nice and clean. I would buy it again if I had it to do over.
