I bought this TV after looking at many LED and LCD sets. Based on price and screen quality, this TV is wonderful. I am a fan of plasma due to the fast screen response, display thickness, and price Plasma is a mature technology, and the price of most plasma sets reflects such. The store salesmen will point you at LED, but I can't say the screen quality is better on LED, just they are brighter. This set is not extremely bright, and if you watch TV in a room with lots of sunlight it may not be for you. But for evening or darker room viewing, it is really good. It's not as if you can't see the screen in a sunny room, it just doesn't pop like an LED would. And plasma screens have a glossy screen which will reflect light in a bright room. You will find that the video presets (standard / cinema / game / vivid) are not very good. With a little tweaking, the screen looks great. The TV does get warm, which is a traditional plasma trait, so don't mount it right against the wall, leave a small gap. I am very pleased with my purchase and would buy a similar Panasonic model again.

So I purchased a TC-P42X5 approximately 6 months ago. Was working fine until I came home one night and tried to put the tv on. Of course nothing no power at all was being supplied to the tv. The internal power fuse must have blown. Now I have no TV and have to wait for support or a repairman. I mean the TV is a year old. Cross off panasonic as a name brand that I would ever buy again.

I have had this tv for one month.......yes one month and I am not exaggerating. A fuse blew in my apartment and the tv went dead. No blinking lights, nothing. Took the back off the TV and nothing appeared to be amiss. DO NOT BUY THIS TV. From the reviews on this board, you have about a 25% chance of this tv breaking.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

When your Elect goes out the TV does too. Many Many similar complaints on Internet . Serious design flaw. Panasonic should replace all these TV's. TV will usually fix itself after being unplugged for 2 to 3 Days ,yes Days.
Less than two years old and has died twice
from Hamilton, Ohio
Fixed it the first time with a new power supply board, at less than a year old. Happened during a thunderstorm, so I blamed the surge protector. I replaced the Surge protector with a High Quality unit to be safe. The second time, I unplugged the TV to move it during a new flooring installation. Plugged back in and nothing. No more Panasonic products for me!
Unsurpassed picture quality

This TV is awesome whether HD or non HD. Best TV I've seen for non-HD channels.

Best TV I've ever purchased
from Anderson, SC
Simple to set up, crystal clear picture and flawless motion anytime I'm watching it. It looks incredible when I'm using it for gaming. Love the bright colors and the cool features. Also had more than enough inputs for everything I needed, and was at a price point I couldn't beat. I've owned it for about a year and a half now and had no problems whatsoever! If I had the choice, I'd go back and do it again. Been an awesome TV!
Piece of junk
Haven't had it for even 2 years and it has died. No more Panasonic for me.

not 2 bad

I had trouble getting my t.v. to turn back on. Just becoming unpluged fried out the mother board, this took over 2 month's to get it fixed ! Just a few month's later it happened again ! And all this time my t.v. is pluged into a powersurge strip. Now this time it only took a few week's to fix. The t.v. repairman told me that Panasonic was having trouble with the motherboard's in the 42" plasma t.v.'s, but that they had found what was wrong and redone all the board's, and now I will not have any more trouble with my t.v.. It's been almost a year now and I haven't had any trouble at all ! They came out to my house to repair my set both time's, even after the hard time I gave them over the phone ! I am disabled, so both time's they had the repairman come to my house to fix my t.v.. They usally have you bring it to the shop to get it fixed. Now I couldn't be any happier with my set. Thank you Panasonic, Dennis D. McCallum, Buffalo,N.Y.

but not good enough. Black is GRAY, not even close to S60's. 720P is not future-proof.

Best bang for your buck
By Cowboy geek
Panasonic plasmas are the best in the business, and it shows in this entry level tv. To get something of this quality only 2 or 3 years ago would have cost 3 - 4 times the money. 720p is plenty for this size screen, especially since most broadcast HD is still 720p or 1080i. Perfect size for an apartment or master bedroom.

Plasma, the REAL TV.
Picture is HD but 720P is for 32". 1080P should be standard. The glass screen does not touch the slightly deformed plastic frame with rough edges (in the back). There is a small gap. It should be close like CRT TVs. Please fix it ASAP.
