First I'll say I haven't used each function yet, but I am very impressed overall so far. The person before me states the light level is poor, but I do not agree. The light level is what I need and I have no complaints. I think sometimes kitchens are set up in that there isn't sufficient lighting to begin with. Why would you expect a microwave light to compensate for that? When the microwave is operating it is quiet. I am impressed with the fan, quiet and appears to be strong. I was concerned about the heat coming off my gas range but so far the auto sensor fan has not come on, so now I just wait and see if it does when I have more than two of my large burners on. The interior is sleek and nice to see instead of the standard white. I spent considerable time researching what is out there to replace my GE that died after almost 11 years, and found this one had all the features and style I was looking for.

I use microwave cooking for large batches of vegetables, often in larger sized crock pots with larger volumes of water in order to cover the vegetables and prevent burning on the surface. This microwave takes excessively long to heat the food and water to simmer temperatures (bubbling) at full power and then to complete the cooking maintaining simmer at lower powers. For example for a 6 pound batch of green beans which normally took about 60 minutes normal total cooking time in other microwaves, it took over 110 minutes total cooking time. On average, cooking my larger batches of vegetables was similarly prolonged, about 1.75 to 2 times longer than normal. I suggest that Whirlpool engineers look at their heat dispersal technology, using their special lining of the unit, which I think may be actually lowering the total power of heating of the food. If the microwave is only used to heat or reheat food, or boil a cup of water, the extra time won't be noticed much, but if one wants to fix a batch of rice, cooking for the normal time, it will come out soggy, and will take inordinately long to finish.

Dying after on 20 months

Purchased this microwave early in 2013. The auto-on fan never really worked that well but otherwise the unit seemed fine. Now the microwave random;y powers down completely - no cooking, control panel, light, or fan. It will restart a few minutes later, but it is completely random as to when it comes and goes. Since the warranty is on 1 year, I'm out of luck. I have bought Whirlpool products before and had good results, but this is a terrible microwave. Never buying another Whirlpool product.
This microwave falls far short of the last Whirlpool microwave purchased 8 years ago.

no instructions came with the microwave - pulled them off the internet and find them to be more involved (not time saving at all) and confusing. Why must the door be open when programming in some instances and not in others.
looks better than it works

The counter top model I had was better than this. Takes forever to heat up sausage links. Fan has barley any suction, my house fills with cooking odors, even though it is vented outside.

Microwave is more watts than my last one but took little adjustment. Different brand than the last and i didn't need to take a class to figure out how to enter cook time or power. I have found so many models (at work or visiting friends or family) and have found so many keypads over complicated. Thanks Whirlpool!

Great features, multi speed fan is a true plus. Reheats food without drying it out.

This oven replaced an 8-year-old Maytag that just quit working. While that one used sensor for nearly all functions, this one uses the sensor selectively, an inconvenience. Whether using sensor or not, it can never get food the right temperature--usually too hot/overcooked but occasionally still frozen in the center. The Maytag had a wealth of one-touch features, this one has only a handful, thought has many more menu options if you don't mind taking a few minutes every time to scroll through them. Installation was particularly difficult as none of the mounting holes matched the previous oven's and the cord required a new hole drilled where the vent flange was. I'm dumping this oven and having the old one repaired. I'm going to miss the easy-wipe interior, though.
I bought this a month or so ago to replace the microwave that was put in when the house was built about 15 yrs ago. Is simple to use, set-up, clean. I like the carousel feature, our old one did not have that, should help make the cooking / reheating more even. Was very easy to install, you can route the blower for any situation you have. I would like to see the timer beeper be adjustable re: sound level and maybe a choice of the little tune it plays with a simple tone. The only thing I can't comment on is how long it will last, time will tell.

Still haven't had a chance to use all the features, but so far I love it. Quiet fan with multiple speeds. Reheat feature is nice. I really do love the style. The brushed metal handle breaks up the plain white. Saving up for the matching fridge!
