Pocket Professional
Get great shots, minus the fuss. The interchangeable-lens NEX-F3 camera offers the quality, creative options and flexibility of its DSLR counterparts in a much smaller, pocket-friendly format you can take anywhere. Even better, it's simple to use with an intuitive interface and incredibly effective auto mode that makes it easy to capture gorgeous images in any conditions.

Brighten Up
The NEX-F3 offers the convenience of a built-in flash right at your fingertips. Perfect when an extra burst of light is needed to nail the shot, the powerful pop-up flash illuminates the frame so no detail is left in the dark.

Perfect Portraits
Now it's easy to create portraits with a truly professional look. Auto Portrait Framing mode uses Face Detection technology and the "rule of thirds" principle to produce an additional image that's cropped into a beautifully balanced portrait. And thanks to By Pixel Super Resolution technology, your portraits feature the same number of pixels as the original shots for crisp, clear images that make for gorgeous enlargements.

Focus on Yourself
Take the guesswork out of self-portraits with a 180° tiltable LCD screen. Just flip up the screen, frame the shot, then press the shutter release button. The three-second timer gives you ample time to prep for the pic so you're smiling and ready. Since the LCD faces you with a mirror image, you can accurately compose perfectly framed self-portraits, star in your own video or get in on the group shot.

Shoot Like a Pro
Does navigating camera settings seem like a daunting task? Just enable Superior Auto mode, and allow the camera to pick the perfect setting for you. Even under challenging shooting conditions—like fast action, low-light or high-contrast scenes—Superior Auto mode automatically detects the situation and activates the optimal setting for each scene. It's the easiest way to walk away with gorgeous, professional-looking photos every time.

Fascinating Picture Effects
Let your imagination run free with 15 in-camera creative effects for photos and video. Transform ordinary portraits into colorful works of art with Pop Color. Get the tilt-shift photography look with Miniature effect, or try Toy Camera for a nostalgic, lo-fi feel. And that's just the beginning. Effects are displayed in real-time on the LCD so you can test out your options and preview results before taking the shot.

The quality of a DSLR in about half the size and weight. The Sony Alpha NEX-F3 interchangeable-lens camera boasts a large 16.1MP APS-C HD sensor for the type of incredible high-resolution photos and Full HD video you'd expect from a camera twice its size. Combined with an advanced BIONZ image processing engine, you'll get incredibly rich, clear quality with reduced graininess and noise—even in challenging low-light conditions. With a 180° tilting 3.0" LCD screen, you can turn the camera on yourself to snap self-portraits or star in your own video clip—a three-second timer gives you plenty of time to perfect your composition and smile for the camera. A built-in pop-up flash is there when you need an extra dose of illumination to make the shot. The included 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens features smooth and silent AF operation with a built-in Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) to handle a full range of shots.

A fun new way to capture life’s joy
Incredible beauty is now yours for the taking with Sony NEX-F3. Brimming with fun new functions and featuring an APS-C sensor, this trim addition to our E-mount interchangeable-lens series is the perfect camera for people who want to take great shots, minus the fuss.

Fun, easy self-portraits
The NEX-F3 makes it truly a snap to take satisfying self-portraits. Just flip the LCD screen up, frame the shot, then press the shutter release button. A handy three-second timer activates so you can put on your best face and prepare for the shot. The 180º tiltable screen directly faces you, making it easy to arrange a composition that includes friends, pets or a favorite item.

Picture Effects for the right look for any scene
Transform ordinary shots into expressive art with Picture Effect. A total of 15 effects let you express yourself in a variety of ways via a simple, intuitive interface. Most effects are displayed in real-time on the LCD screen and can be applied to both photos and movies, letting you experiment with effects and preview results before the shot.

Built-in flash brightens the scene
Perfect when an extra burst of light is needed to get the shot. The Guide Number of 6* combines with high ISO sensitivity to enable shooting in just about any setting. In meters at ISO 100 equivalent.

A setting for any photo or movie
Never worry about having to make camera adjustments on your own. Just enable Superior Auto mode and let NEX-F3 make the right setting according to the scene. Even under especially challenging conditions — for example, at dusk or in high contrast settings — you’ll get super photos with automatically activated modes such as Hand-held Twilight and Auto HDR.

Strike the perfect pose
Give your portrait photos a professional look with Auto Portrait Framing. Enable it when shooting portraits and the image is automatically cropped to create a nicely balanced composition. The original is also saved so you can choose which version captures the right mood. And thanks to Sony’s By Pixel Super Resolution Technology, the cropped photo exhibits excellent image quality.

I got this camera June 22nd, and yes it's not out...and no, I have no idea why I got it early...but I'm HAPPY I DID. This camera is awesome. I actually sold my A700 for this camera. I wanted the compact design, HD video, High Resolution, Panorama, and all the other features my A700 lacked. So far I've been happy, this little guy is super fast. the resolution is great, and although its a crazy pain to attach the flash, you actually don't even need it. the image sensor is so great, that it absorbs light like no other. The feel of the camera is great, the lens so far has proved to be solid. I love the titanium lens, but I HATE the silver painted plastic portion of the extended lens. Nothing plastic should be painted silver, it gives it a cheap look and feel. But this is only when the lens is fully extended. The shift-able screen has already proven to be a great addition to this small body. My first test run with this camera was at a classic car show, and it's was fantastic to get down into the engine and have that perfect angle. The screen is fantastic in the day light, I never had to strain to see my image. It's was clear and always present. A major downfall to this camera is the user interface. It's a pain, and takes several motions to make what used to be simple adjustments. They could have done without the over sized on-off switch and added a settings dial. All-in-all I would recommend this camera above any of the other models under the A800. But again, these are Apple-to-Oranges.

After carrying this camera around for a couple months and shooting thousands of photos, I’ve come to the conclusion that this camera was a complete waste of money. I wanted DSLR quality in a compact profile, but this camera isn’t even close to DSLR quality, forget the sensor size. If you're just want a better point and shoot, this camera might work for you--except that it's a lot bigger and more expensive than a high quality point and shoot. So, really, there’s no point to this camera. Here’s why: Excessive noise even at the lowest ISO: I’ve taken many pictures Even when everything is perfect on the camera, there are unacceptable levels of noise in skies and dark areas on the image. A decent DSLR will not show noise at these levels. Also, it only goes to ISO 200. Most DSLRs will go to ISO 100. AutoFocus is not crisp. Forget crystal clarity. Everything comes out soft and slightly out of focus. No EVF. Using this camera in the bright light of the Mediterranean, I was shooting blind, even when using a screen hood. No hot shoe or adapter. The puny little flash that ships with the camera has very little practical use. Since there’s no hot shoe or adapter, you can’t use any external flash or remote accessories. Accessory lenses are very expensive and only of moderate quality. Using the adapter and buying alternate lenses results in a severe loss of functionality. Sony. They are unwilling to own up to the poor quality of the product and will not accept returnsâ€"only repairs. How do you repair bad design and poor quality? Not only do I recommend a different camera. I’d also encourage you to use a different manufacturer.

Great for Street Photography

from NYC

This is a great camera. It is small, has great quality and is quick. It is great for street photography. This and other future models are a great line of cameras!

Solid Device

from Farmington, NM

Pros: Very easy to use. The 16-50 mm lens that the unit comes with is very decent, but not great for macro shots as it needs to be over 12 inches away of your focus point. Works great for portraits even in low light, with or without flash. I find the camera apps available to download to the camera to be a nice touch and very useful for beginner photographers. The auto focus on the lens works great, but if your shooting anything within three feet, it has a hard time and you'll need to switch it to manual. The unit itself is very fast and has no problem doing high speed shooting even if you don't have a high seed memory card. The duel microphones pick up stereo audio really nicely. Cons: Whenever I've done full HD recordings, whether my surrounding temperature is 60F or 90F, the device shows that its overheating and shuts off. The battery doesn't last very long but most mirrorless cameras I've reviewed lack a long battery life. Overall, I think the camera is a great equivalent to a professional DLSR with the advantage of being super easy and fun to use. A great buy.

Small and powerful

from Chicago, IL

I have an A65 and wanted the wife to get something smaller, finally she did. She loves it and i can't say how jealous i am. The camera takes very good pictures with auto settings and if user is knowledgeable F-stop and shutter can be manipulated. We went out to the race track and she was taking better pictures then me. I had a zoom advantage, but at the end of the day... She could get the small camera out and take great shots at the pits while i felt uncomfortable to take out the a65 70-200 lens out. The great thing about this camera is that u can take pictures everywhere because it is so small and u dont have to worry about settings the camera will set it up for u and take the picture fast. I still think my A65 with all the a-mount lens available is a great feature, but its nice that a small little camera that fits in your pocket and shots fast and sharp works and competes with the big units is a great reason to buy...

Great pictures, Poor durability and longevity

from Dallas TX

This camera takes wonderful photo's and is compact and easy for on the go. Small enough it is not cumbersome for vacation use. Unfortunately Sony customer service is pretty inconvenient. I purchased this camera in April 2013, it mysteriously stopped working in February 2014. I took it to the Sony store, they are not equipped to handle camera's. They referred us to the technical support line. I had to mail the camera in, at which point I was told that the camera had physical damage and could be repaired for $800. My problem with the product is that the camera had never been dropped, any damage done I would deem as normal wear and tear. I feel the longevity and durability of the camera should have been better in this price point. The Panorama feature on this camera was GREAT! Until is completely stopped functioning after four months of use. The photo's were too dark to discern anything.

Great Camera

from Santa CLarita, California

The whole family loves using this camera. I wish the zoom on the lens had a bigger ratio. It was a great value. We love the burst mode. Still early in our use. Controls are easy to figure out. Iphone app that links with camera is not as usefull as it could be. Still this camera is a great value and I couldn't justify buying the newer model with this one available.

Beginner Looks Like a Pro

from Orlando, FL

As someone who loves photos, but never took the time to truly understand how a great photo was captured the NEX has allowed me to up my game without a ton of training! The built in features for focusing, lighting and "Instagram" like effects have made my shots consistently more appealing as I continue to learn. One of my other favorite features is the Play Memories connection which allows me to instantly send a photo to my phone for posting to social media! Now nighttime shots look amazing, scenery is more brilliant and the mood is captured so much better than via a phone.

from Phoenix, AZ

I'm a professional wedding photographer and I use a Canon 5D Mark III - the thing is, I don't want to take the heavy DSLR body or expensive lenses traveling with me. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the NEX camera and see what it could do. I bought the 50mm/1.8 and 16/2.8 lenses which was worth it since I enjoy using prime lenses and shallow depth of field. I took it on my recent trip to Ireland - which means I trusted it THAT MUCH to capture the amazing landscape and to document this once in a lifetime trip that I had. I am thrilled with the images and also the features - the wi-fi allowed me to instantly share to social media (better than any iPhone pic) and also teach my friend who didn't know anything about photography to easily focus on me with the touch screen feature and adjust the dial for shutterspeed (while it was on manual mode) so she could get the correct exposure. I also have a Powershot S100 but it is basically a point-and-shoot, even with an F/2 capability. This NEX is pretty much what I use to take photos for my blog and personal trips like traveling. If I were to suggest a camera to any bloggers, or moms who just want something that works well - this is now what I recommend. DSLR quality too! Can't beat it.

Exellent camera!!

from Appleton,WI

I bought this camera for photography purposes. This is my second year really getting into photography. I had a little point and shoot camera before this one and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The clarity is beautiful, I love that the screen flips up, love that the camera reconizes what it's point at and picks the best setting, the direct upload and other apps are a great add on to the camera and there are so many other things that I could say about this camera. I just love it so much and am very pleased with the value!

My DSLR is getting lonely.

from Aspen, CO

I've been shooting with Canon and Nikon DSLR's for a LONG time, since 2005 I believe. When mirrorless cameras were announced I was skeptical, how could something so small and light produce images comparable (and often better) than my big bulky DSLR? After shooting with the NEX-5R for a couple of weeks I can honestly say that my DSLR is collecting dust on a shelf. Why the change of heart? Here are some reasons... ****** What I like ****** - It's small. Real small. I am an active guy, I hike, bike, and ski my brains out. In order for me to take decent (non cameraphone) shots during these outdoor activities I usually had to haul my DSLR with me. That meant I'd be removing my vertical grip, and packing one to two lenses so it didn't feel like I had a boat anchor on my back. With the NEX-5R, this thing fits in the back of my cycling jersey with the stock 18-55mm lens, that's how small this thing is. - WiFi is awesome. I use this feature constantly with my iPhone, and Xperia tablet. I can transfer the shot in a couple seconds, edit with Snapseed and publish it up to my blog, Instagram feed, or Facebook. It's a killer feature. - Low light sensitivity! I attached a photo that I took drinking wine with a friend at dusk. Simply put, if you're shooting in low light, you won't have to go to ISO 1,000,000 to make the photos look good. - The video is REAL, REAL good. 1080p60 with depth of field? Yup. - Panoramic mode is just awesome. I attached one that I shot at dawn overlooking Snowmass. There aren't any stitch marks, the photos are massive in size, and they look GORGEOUS. You'll find yourself using this feature all the time because it's just that good. - it shoots to regular old SD cards. Amen, Sony. Thanks for not trapping us into Magic Gate / Stick / whatever that format was. Warning: Make sure you use Class 10 cards. ****** What don't I like? ****** - It doesn't come with a viewfinder. Yes, you can buy one, but I REALLY wish it had it out of the box. I shoot in a lot of high light environments, like snow. I have to crank the brightness on the viewfinder to see what I'm doing. Is this a deal-breaker? Absolutely not. ****** Wrapup ****** + Takes amazing photos. + Low light performance is crazy good. + Incredibly portable. + Takes regular SD cards. + Controls are great. + Videos look gorgeous. + Panoramic mode is a hidden gem. + WiFi and Play Memories is great for transferring pics to your smartphone / tablet. - Doesn't have a viewfinder. (Although you can purchase one.)

Overall great camera

from Southern Utah

Overall, this is an awesome camera! The colors turn out amazingly with the image sensor. It is a very easy camera to use as well. The cons are the panoramas, it stitches together badly when shooting a mountainous and rocky terrain and the hdr can really be worked on. It can blur images together in low light and you don't notice it until after when you are reviewing the pictures. It is a real bummer! So overall this is a great camera and I would recommend.
