After losing all of my possessions to a fire a year and a half ago I had to buy a new washer and dryer. Thank god for insurance. After looking at many brands and models I chose this machine along with the matching dryer in the silver/metallic finish. I love the glass lid on the washer as you can see what is happening in the machine. The machine is a High Efficiency machine which works totally differently from regular washers and you must use the proper detergents and other items that are made for an HE machine. This washer has a setting for anything your heart desires and the type of laundry you are washing. It really does literally use 70% less water when placed on the normal setting and be sure not to overload it on this setting. There are settings for large, bulky loads that still use less water. The key to these machines is educate yourself on how to use them properly and you will love it. Another important feature is to be sure to use the "clean" option with the proper cleaner once a month or you may get that sour smell you hear some people complain about. You have to clean these machines. The fact that they are washing clothes does not in itself clean them for you. They make several cleaners you can get that are not expensive and you just run an empty load with the cleaner once a month and you will avoid that souring smell. I have no complaints about this washer whatsoever; none. Plus it's Maytag so you know you are getting a quality product. This is also the commercial series so it's made with commercial parts which means the repair man should be even lonelier than he is now. I highly recommend this washer with the matching dryer. I'm glad my old set burnt up!

I've had this washer for 4 months and have really wanted to love it, as I spent a huge amount of time researching high-efficiency top-load washers before replacing my 15-year-old Kenmore. But I cannot recommend it to anyone who washes sheets on a regular basis as I do. When I wash two full-sized black sheets with a few smaller items -- two pillow cases, one pj bottoms, and 5 small hand towels in the most recent case -- and wash them on the Normal cycle, the sheets do not get clean! I suspect this is always the case, but I've only noticed it when I wash black sheets because the drool marks are clearly still there after they are washed. The only way I've found to get the sheets clean is to choose the Bulky cycle, which ALWAYS fills the washer TO THE TOP with water. Obviously, the water-level sensor does not work on this cycle and defaults to the HIGHEST possible water level, even with only two full-sized sheets sitting way at the bottom of the washer. I thought maybe my washer wasn't working properly on the Bulky cycle, but when I asked about it, I was told that the Bulky cycle works that way by design. At the very least, the user manual should be changed to reflect the fact that using the Bulky cycle will always use the HIGHEST possible water level, instead of a "higher water level," as it now reads.I considered using the Allergen cycle to wash my sheets, but can't because it forces you to use hot water, not warm, and that is not advised for colored sheets. So my only choice, it seems, is to wait until all the sheets in the house need washing so that I don't waste a washer full of water -- and our sheets never need washing at the same time.I would love for someone who really knows how these machines are supposed to work to contact me about how to get around this problem, in which case I would happily write a positive review of the washer. I have read the user manual from cover to cover and can find no solution. The end result is that I don't like my new washer and I will NEVER buy another washer that doesn't allow me to control the water level!

from brunswick, ohio
Comments about Maytag Bravos X Granite Top Load Washer:
I brought my washer 3&1/2 years ago but didn't buy a warrenty because they say maytag washers work good, little did I no that my washer leaks oil and a gearcase needs to be replace and maytag will not help me with repairs when it was there falt. I had and old maytag that last longer than the new ones.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

ROUGH ON CLOTHES
from RYE BROOK NY
VERY ROUGH ON CLOTHES. NOT ENOUGH WATER USED HOWEVER THE CLOTHES COME OUT CLEAN AND ALMOST DRY. VERY LONG CYCLES. DOES IT USE ALOT OF ELECTRICITY?
This was the first washer/dryer set I've ever bought. Being a newly married couple I was back and forth on what kind of washer and dryer would be best for us. After doing some research of my own and checking out a few different brands and difference of top and front loaders, I finally decided on this. Best decision I've made. This thing can hold a lot of clothes, and deep clean them. I have never had a problem getting a stain out or anything. And with my husband being in the military, this thing can handle the nastiness that can come with those cammies and long days in the field. I usually use Tide HE washing machine cleaner or the Affresh brand (it has the option for refresh, not like it matters, it all cleans the same) and it's still running perfect. The ONLY thing you have to watch for is making sure when you're washing towels you evenly distribute the weight (since it doesn't have an agitator the weight can get thrown off) and it'll bang up on the side of the machine, which makes a really horrible sound and it's kind of scary, haha. But I love this thing and hope to keep it around for many many more years.

I like the look of the washing machine, but am not thrilled
from Saint Joseph, MI
We recently purchased the Maytag Bravos. I like the look and design of these machines. I especially like the see-through lid and no-agitator design.HOWEVER....I think the low-water levels of these HE machines has been a detriment to my laundry. I fill the machine correctly and have followed the directions, but the clothes come out wrinkled, stretched out, and on a few occasions ripped! So much for running a "normal" cycle. I have resorted to using the "bulky" setting for everything in order to force more water into the machine. I would not recommend.
More Fetures than needed.

I like things simple so I don't need all the "fancy" features but I like that it gets the job done!
Bad design for smaller loads
from Albuquerque, NM
When doing a small loads, there is not enough water to get the load wet. As a result, cleaning is poor at best. This wears the clothes out faster than wearing them on my person. All low water cycles produce same result. Water levels not enough to get clothes wet.I have to use the max load capacity to get the entire load wet. More water, more power. This is not a savings. Here's a tip for the engineers??_.if the clothes don't get wet, they can't be washed.I'd trade this for a regular top load Maytag washer any day.
