I was researching for headphones for a long time. I finally decided on these after about a year a research. ( a year because i planned on buying them then something came up) I finally made my decision after seeing many reviews say these beat even the $300 beats. And went to a Sony store to try the sound for myself. I was purely amazed. Putting these headphones on was an experience. The sound was full, the bass was strong, but not over powering, and the highs and lows hit just perfectly. You CAN'T go wrong with these headphones. I love them and use them everyday! I hope this helps with your purchase!

I bought these cause i tried out the v55s and thought these were a better version. These are nice to look at and the sound is nice at resonable volumes but if you crank it up then everyone in the room can hear you and it gets really distorted but then again im not trying to destroy my eardrums anyways so im good. The plastic is creeky and makes alot of sounds as you try to adjust. I have had these phones for about 3 days now and im still trying to get used to the lack of cusioning, the diameter of the cans are really wide and i think sony should have just went with around ear instead of putting this on ear... some of my ear has cusion and some parts feel the hard plastic underneath... they should have put more cusioning. I bought these so i am gonna use them but i would have been happier with the v55s.

ok.. but not DJ worthy

By

from 8108

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

- the lack of coiled cable is a major pitfall on these. - beware, no 1/4" adapter is included - overall, the sound is not full or bassy. sub bass is often less distinguishable than what is necessary. - headphones pads covers are very thin..

Better than Beats

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

The biggest bang for the buck. They sound better than the more expensive brands and models. Downfall is there is no case or soft bag to store them in.

Headphone leak sound, super annoying

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

They are compact, flexible and fit nicely but people can hear my music when I'm listening at a normal level. Think what would happen in a quiet office while listening to Metal or anything other than soft music at regular or "loud" decibels? Seriously, I am not blasting music to cause this; I am listing to the same levels that I would in my car, using my iphone ear buds or my old Klipsch headphones. super disappointing. And with no free shipping on returns I just ate the cost. The reviews were all positive on these and had this not been an issue I would have given them a 4.5-5/5 stars. Whomp, whomp.

Overall good quality, but too much bass

By

from Hampton, CT 06247, USA

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

I've only had these for a few days, so I can't say whether they will stand up to the test of time, but they are of good build quality. The sound is good and generally pretty clear, but the bass tends to drown out the sounds in certain songs and listening to non-music content (podcasts, etc.). Dubstep in particular sounds really good on these headphones. Cord is nice because it's flat, but I could have used a couple more feet of length. If this pair had included a bass boost toggle and 2 ft of more cord length, they would be perfect, 5/5 no problem.

Fantastic set for the price!

By

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

In going through buying a new product I research it to death and compare it to similar priced models by competitors I find on the internet. I did the same with these. It took me a while to decide if I wanted to get them especially since they were on ear headphones instead of over ear which generally like more. However, I could not be more pleased, I expected a nice sounding pair of headphones but the level of fidelity on these is amazing. The first thing I did when I got them was just a simple test on my computer. I brought up just a quick YouTube video of one of my favorite songs and I could hear the difference in just the commercial that played. But let's go over what exactly I like about them. For one the bass is fantastic, you get hard hitting bass that is strong but not overwhelming so it doesn't overpower the mids and the highs. All the low's are extremely rich and sound fantastic, I've run them through many genre's and all my music sounds better on these. Just for reference, I've run them through classical music, heavy metal, techno, dubstep, a capella, some pop, and everything sounds great. Second pro is the comfort, I thought on ear headphones would get really uncomfortable really fast but the pads on these things are super soft and comfortable, the material that actually covers the headphones is also very soft and doesn't rub on your ears too much when putting them on and taking them off a lot. The band at the top is really comfortable as well and I almost never have to re-situate the headphones. Just put them on and go. However the only con is also in the comfort and that's that your head get pretty hot with these beasts on after extended periods of use but that's usually true for any larger model headphones anyway so it didn't take a star off. The last couple things I really like is the cord on it is fantastic, it's flat and only on one side so it doesn't get in the way if you want to eat or write while listening. And they drown outside out pretty well also. The music comes through crisp and clear and I don't have to put them very loud, but even if I ramp them up there's no distortion. Overall I would absolutely recommend these to a friend as they are 100% worth it for the price, and I actually have recommended them to one of my best friends and he got them and loves them as well. Fantastic bang for your buck great job sony!

Somewhat Disappointed

By

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

This was my 1st "true" headphone purchase in many years. For my listening preference, these are too bass heavy for my liking and I wish that there was more treble and detail. But, more disappointing than the sound reproduced, is the noticible creeking from the plastic construction of the headphone. Every little turn of the head or neck, facial expression etc. causes an annoying audible creeking of the parts. If the return period had not expired, I would have returned and looked at other options.

Great quality, dissapointing sound.

By

from Idaho

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

I purchased the MDR-V55 because it was time to replace my old Sennheiser HD 250's. I was looking for something with power and capability for bass, but also clarity and something that wouldn't drown out the rest of the sound. I figured a trusted brand like Sony would surely be able to live up to that for a set that retails for about $80. The downside: As someone who's father has been a professional DJ for over 35 years, I know how to put headphones through their paces. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed with the sound of the MDR-V55's. It seems to be an obvious attempt to recreate Beats headphones. The problem with that is that Beats are designed to be extremely bass heavy without maintaining sound quality. The pure tones of music are drowned out and clarity is lost. This is not to say that bass is not to be exploited, I love a powerful and punchy bass. However, NEVER at the expense of clarity and other frequencies. Sadly, this is exactly what happens with these Sony MDR-V55's. I honestly think I'll switch back to my old (falling apart) Sennheiser HD 250's until I come up with enough money to get something that can preform powerfully and clearly at the same time. The upside: The headphones themselves are very nice, they feel well built and the cord is a flat, tangle-free style. The cord is a bit short, but could be easily remedied with an extender. The kind of music I've found works fairly well with these are most any dubstep. -Those drops- O_o

Greatest headphones ever!

By

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Sony Black DJ Style Headphones:

Bought these headphones about a half a year ago and I love 'em! They sound and look awesome, feel great - though you may have to get used to the feel of it for the first week. It folds very compactly. Both sides can swivel 90 degrees sideways and can swivel all the way backwards so that you could look awesome while doing some dj stuff :P The cord is a bit short imo, still looking for a matching flat extension cable. Overall awesome product!

I received this a little over a year ago as a birthday gift from my girlfriend, and all I can say is WOW! I really love these headphones! If you listen to Metal these are for you! The bass in these headphones are perfect and the Treble is also awesome! They are designed for DJ's but if you are a Metalhead....BUY THEM! YOU WONT REGRET THEM!
