My most versatile lens
Comments about Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED Camera Lens:
After much research, I decided to get the 60mm f/2.8D for macro work. Little did I know it would end up being my most used lens overall, because of its superior sharpness and contrast. It worked beautifully on my D610, and then spectacularly on my D810. The crispness of detail in macro work is unparalleled if used with good light and a tripod. Since it has an aperture ring, it can be used with macro rings and bellows if you want to go super close up. Its short length can be tough if you are trying to shoot shy creatures, but excellent for flowers and other "still" life. It doesn't work well with filters because of the recessed element. It is a wonderful portrait lens in tight spaces where an 85mm-up can't be used, or for newborns. The crispness will capture every flaw, so keep the aperture wide. Bokeh is nice, but not as pretty as the 85f/1.8G or the 135mm f/2D-DC. It also is an excellent lens for landscape shots as you can set your depth of field to f/22-f/32 although the sharpness begins to fall off after f/16. The recessed front element is great as a lens hood isn't really necessary. This lens has virtually zero CA and little distortion that can be easily corrected in editing. It has a classic "zeep-zeep" loud autofocus sound (that I personally like) and is just a little slow. With macro shots, you will have to switch to manual focus, but the focus ring is smooth and tight. An amazing lens that should not disappoint.

I recommend this product for professional ,entry-level and entry-professional photographers. It is a high quality lens with no distortions and a great blur effect. I mostly used with a D5100 and D5300. This lens is one of my favourites. It definitely deserves 5 stars!

Excellent Lens for Reproducing Fine Art
from San Diego, California
This Nikon micro lens is perfect for reproducing fine art work. The reproduction of the painting below was taken with a Nikon D800 camera body at an aperture of f/8, an ISO of 100, and Matrix Metering.

Probably the best Nikkor 60mm macro ever
from South Carolina, USA
This is a very good lens length, it is very easy to hand hold and hand hold still. It is probably the best Nikkor macro of this range, I have owned the 55 mm 3.5 non-Ai, the 55mm 2.8 AIs and the 60mm 2.8 AF-d....all have been very good this one tops them. The only thing I would like to see is for this lens to have a collapsible lens hood, at 1:1 the current one can get in the way.All that said one thing few comment about is it's lack of distortion. This lens not only has horizontal and vertical lines without distortion, but the squares are square and the rounds are round. It is an excellent lens when perfect shapes are needed.

Close, closer, closest
from St. Louis, MO, USA
Macro is a fascinating aspect of photography and I acquired a manual focus Micro-Nikkor several years ago and created a number of wonderful pictures with it. However, I was always frustrated by the annoyance of setting up the older lens. I was lucky to find a pre-owned 60mm lens and the auto-focus makes such a difference. Not only do I have a sharp everyday f2.8 60mm for my D610 I can also use it on my DX body as a 90mm portrait lens. I am sure the latest 'G' version is a masterpiece too, but for the occasional close-up work I shoot this lens is great.

No problems... Nice micro. Easy to use. What you would expect in a Nikon lens.
versatile and sharp
This lens provides the versatility that I needed when traveling in Thailand, I shot scenery and portrait using this lens with very satisfying results. I recommend this lens when you are traveling light and want sharp quality for all conditions. Excellent in low light conditions, great depth of field.

I have gotten some really excellent close-up shots with this lens. Amazing image quality. I've been using it for general photography as well and it works great. The only thing to note is that in order to get true 1:1 macro shots you will need to be within an inch of your subject. If you are hoping to get shots of insects that won't like that then you may want to consider a longer focal length.
I bought this lens to add to my professional kit. I never thought I could hand hold a camera still enough for a macro shot but I was wrong. This is a fantastic lens that lives up to every expectation you can ever imagine you would need a macro lens for. Don't dither, buy it!

Prime Example of Fine Art
This lens loves doing Micro work and feels like a natural fit on your camera body.. It is small, light, and does double duty as your standard lens in a single package. It works very well in situations for working in botanical gardens, in the park or where tight crops or wider whole plant portraiture is important. You can't ask for a better walk around lens with Micro capabilities than this 60mm. Makes almost anything pop off the page with detail. I love it because it is short, compact, carry proof for all day outings, and has a wider field of view for whole plant portraiture.
