We've had this dishwasher for several months now, and are really pleased with how clean it gets our dishes-- with little to no pre-washing. (Because, who has time to prewash!?) We especially like how big the top rack is-- I can fit my small plates on the top with no adjustment and all of our tall mugs/ travel mugs/ etc which wasn't even close to possible with our old dishwasher, and we also like how it sports it's own individual sprayer-- really optimizing the clean. The few quirks we're annoyed at are as follows: Apart from those expensive cleaning pods-- no matter the type of cleaning fluid I use (powder, or liquid) the cup doesn't clean out very well during the cycle, which can be pretty frustrating. Not sure if this is just an issue with my specific unit (I plan to call in an inquiry on our warranty about it) or if this is a problem with all of these models. Liquid is much worse at fully cleaning out of the cup than the powder. But powder isn't fool-proof either. It tends to gunk up and solidify in there if you close the cup like any normal human would. But, I did realize very soon after troubleshooting this issue that the cup opens nearly immediately after you start a cycle, and so I just stopped closing it all together, which seems to have nearly solved the problem. Still annoying, though. The second most annoying thing are the front hanging baskets for silverware which are problematic for several reasons. First: the individual slots in the blue covers for utensils-- while a pretty innovative and smart design don't stay on. I do agree that it ends up cleaning our silverware better because it keeps them in an upright position with their heads facing up/ out, but they're nearly impossible to keep on. The blue plastic tabbies that click into place on the gray main-part pop off all the time. I've given up and removed most of them and resorted to just popping my silverware into the cubbies, face up, like every other dishwasher design. Also, those baskets tend to fall off a lot, which is annoying. The tabs that slide into the wire racks aren't close to long enough to make them sturdy enough to pull on to slide your racks out and they often pop off really easily. Which, isn't a huge issue, but is definitely annoying after a while. And, I've noticed that if you don't have them in *just* the right position they'll hang a little low placing them right in the way of the circular under-rack sprayers and hit it with each rotation. Also, a lot of reviews will complain about the dry-cycle. And, I've got to be honest, that sounds like a 'first world' problem if I've ever heard one. I mean, to each his own, but I never run the dry cycle because I consider it a total waste of energy and time. Maybe I don't have high enough standards for how dry my dishes are upon completion of clean. But, that's just not an issue for me. The unit is also pretty quiet when running. That seems like a big concern to people, too. Especially if you live in a small house or apartment. I will say it does take a while to complete a cycle, esp. if you're running it on heavy-- but it gets my dishes so much cleaner that I can't really complain about it. Having said all that, I'm still really happy with this dishwasher. Maybe it's because our last dishwasher (a hotpoint) was so terrible that I would basically want to go all 'Office Space' copier-scene on it every time I loaded it or ran a cycle. But, then, the purchase process was so confusing with differing opinions and reviews that we were at a loss, and finally just made an educated guess and picked one in our price range that just happened to be a pretty good one!

Pros Black front, hidden controls are nice. Gray interior is fine, and would hide stains (though not white hard water deposits). Its layout is flexible to place a variety of cups, plates, bowels etc. Cons * Not as quiet as the one it replaced. (It did not claim to be the quietest available, but I hoped an average one would be as quiet as our 5 or 10 year old previous one.) * The water fills on a timer, expecting 70-90 psi (though it also has a float cut-off). Our city only has 50 psi, so if anyone anywhere in the house is using water, it doesn’t clean the dishes (it doesn’t fill enough, for the pump to have enough water to work â€" it can’t even wash the soap out of the soap dispenser). The serviceman we had out while it was still under warranty explained this, and that it has a restrictor on the water inlet, but he was not allowed to remove/open it. * It takes forever to run (especially if you are waiting to take a shower!) The service guy recommended we run it on “normalâ€ rather than “autosenseâ€ or “heavy.â€ It helps if you listen, and pour a quart or two of hot water in it as it completes each drain cycle, as it is very slow to fill. * The filter must be manually cleaned, and it clogs way too easily. In addition to cleaning it after each complete cycle, I often have to listen and clean it after the first rinse or it clogs and blocks too much water flow and the dishes don’t get clean, the detergent doesn’t even get rinsed out of the dispenser. I shouldn’t have to wash all the dishes before putting them in. Also you have to catch it just as it empties completely and before it starts filling, or the soil floats in the water and isn’t deposited on the filter to be removed. * Plates cups and dishes often don’t get clean. We have figured out that this is especially if anyone/anything is using water, or if there is more than minimal soil, and the filter gets too clogged. * The detergent dispenser frequently has a large amount of detergent residue left in and around it (especially if I don’t make sure not to use the silverware slots under and in front of it). * It does better if I put a second detergent packet in at the beginning, to help the first rinse (old dishwashers used to require that, but it doubles the detergent cost). * The top utensil holder doesn’t get enough water flow to clean â€" it’s really not usable. If I put a detergent packet on it, it doesn’t even disappear/dissolve during the first rinse cycle (even if I make sure it has enough water). * The bottom utensil holder is right under the soap dispenser, so you can’t use the middle of the front row. If you put utensils there, it traps the soap dispenser from opening. * No rinse cycle only â€" I have to run a whole wash cycle again to remove the detergent residue, or catch it just as it empties and stop it and cancel the rest of the cycle. * Silverware racks are not secure. With just two flexible plastic tabs holding them on, they fall off easily, especially when loaded. * I don’t like that I can’t see it progress through the cycles. I don’t know if it is almost done or if it’s still on preliminary rinses or even if the soap dispenser has opened without opening it to see. But then most of the new ones have this same drawback. Summary If you have very good water pressure, and you like to pre-wash your dishes, and you don’t need a lot of silverware space, and you are good at remembering to clean filters, and arranging stuff just right, it should be acceptable. If you want to have the kids or hubby run it â€" run! For an energy and time saving appliance, I give it a zero. I think I could hand wash the dishes faster and with less water!

Comments about GE 24" White Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher:

Hi! We moved into our house a couple of years ago and the dishwasher button it's been finnicky from the start. But now had just sunk in. And the piece of plastic that goes over came apart on the right side. Not a great design at all. Doesn't clean well either. We have to rinse all the dishes prior, otherwise it becomes a permanent stain. Our previous dishwasher was a different brand and we had it for 12 years and was still running well. I can't add the picture on here. It doesn't work

Worst Dishwasher Ever

By

from Atlantic Highlands, NJ, United States

Comments about GE 24" White Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher:

The dishwasher does not clean the plates and definitely not the silverware given the poor design. No wonder it is a discontinued model. It came with the new house we purchased, so I'll be looking to replace it soon, even though it is new.

Not My Choice...

Comments about GE 24" White Tall Tub Built-In Dishwasher:

I bought my new home with this GE dishwasher already here. Frankly, I am not impressed. The user panel is inside and half the time when i start the machine , the start button doesn't engage. Also the attached silverware holder is forever coming off . Perhaps a more premium model would have been better
